  • We will get the Honda engine running on the FG100 tiller and then the tiller part does not work. We disassemble the tiller and discover why it does not work. Serious lack of lubrication has ruined the gears.

I got 20 years out of mine. I hear a lot of people complain about these machines, but if owners actually followed the owners manual and serviced the transmission every 6 hours with fresh grease like Honda says to do, they would last. I rebuilt the carburetor once in 20 years.

What you put into your machines id what they will give you back. Maintenance and care is key to long life.

WOW thanks for saving me the time, money and aggravation in trying to repair it. Mine has the same problem and on top of that fumes black smoke within twenty seconds after starting the engine. I guess straight to the dumpster....

Do you know, are the new ones with the GX25 and whatever tranny they have now any better? I'd like to get one but not so sure now. Thanks.

Yes they are much better. The problem with the tiller part locking up was solved after the first couple of years.

I'm afraid that I may have a similar problem 😕

We are not alone. Many of the earlier manufactured units have suffered from a similar fate. Thank you for watching.

These are the shittiest engine Honda makes

I can't argue against that. The worst application for this engine I have seen was on the mini water pump Honda made for a couple of years. In this application where it is constant load and high RPM's, I have seen them melt the cam shaft.
