  • If you're finding yourself waking up multiple times per night to go pee, you could be at risk of multiple health conditions. Nocturia = waking to pee, is something that most men just become used to and accept as normal life. Although waking up once per night is normal as you get older, waking up 2-4 times per night to urinate isn't, and this condition can start to negatively impact your life. This video covers the reasons leading to your nocturia and overactive bladder at night and then finishes with 8 steps you can try today to start reducing the number of times you wake up at night. This is going to help you improve your overall health, your bladder health and it will help you to get better better sleep.
    In this video I go through fluid diaries, strengthening your pelvic floor muscles, decreasing swelling in your legs and feet, limiting consumption to diuretics and so much more to help you stop the habit of waking multiple times per night.

      Started at about 40 for me, now I'm 60. 5 or 6 times a night, from about as little as 10oz. to as much as over a half gallon. My PCP has prescribed a few different meds, but nothing has worked other then despmopressin which has reduced urination to 3 - 4 times per night on most nights. I'm fine during the day. I've eliminated sweets, but eat three pieces of fruit everyday. No alcohol. No fluids after 4:00, and minimal fluids during the day.

    Another tiip - try to time your bowel movements so that you are empty before you go to sleep. This fecal matter can impinge and press on the bladder causing it to cramp and contract. Not a total cure but it helps somewhat.

After one horrible migraine ended up in hospital bc suspected seizure. Therefore very important i dont sleep with any lights on. I migraine can bring them on. Ive had 2 even when heavier they are quite dangerous have to be mindful of falls. I noticed yesterday I could actually cope without a dinner. I'm quite thin 5 stone 8 and get bullied glared as I made food as my 5kg gain was lean so got slimmer. People just need to accept me for who I am at this stage. Also seem to be fortunate enough to raise family because of very petite stature so only a bit to gain. All positive. I was only eating for comfort really need to just eat in a different place at a different time. I was eating late to avoid people but they were jealous id remained lean despite weight gain and made me uncomfortable. Then the weight was lost again. Hit lows of 31kgs.

However due to age and prostrate issues (which ALL men will get if they live long enough, apparently) I wake up twice in my usual 7 hour sleep with the second being an hour or so before I have to get up. Quite annoying when I can’t get back to sleep. Still, that’s better than the previous four times a night!!

Measure how much fluid u drink and the time. Then measure the urinary output and time.Also check pee color to c if u r hydrated. I also have the CPAP machine for apnea and have to take medication for High Blood Pressure. Look, this is more of a question for a Urologist however in terms of your pelvic floor involvement, it would be unlikely in most cases for your childhood bed wetting to carry over and cause polyuria. Very good informative and well presented case. However, I have suffered from nocturia for the past 20 years or more and wake up to ten times, and after consulting many GP's and Urologists, no-one, but no-one has come up with a remedy that works. I have tried everything you recommend including forgoing my ONE small glass of red wine with dinner (is that too much red wine?) I avoid all fluids during the day and have not had a full glass of water for years, yet I never get dehydrated or thirsty because my little petuitory gland keeps ordering more and more urine from the kidneys: "Make more urine! More more more!". Recently, as a last resort I have ordered a condom-like penis sheath with drain hose and night bag, that seems to be the last resort for many men. Next step is suicide because i cannot stand these constant sleepless nights any longer. I am 83 years old and have mobility problems that make getting up and walking to the bathroom increasingly difficult now.

    Doesn't bother me. I've always woken up during the night to go pee. No sweat. It's what I'm used to. I'm autistic so I'm *extremely* sensitive to pressure in my bladder. If there is anything there, I want to get rid of it. Just wake up, keep my eyes half shut, go pee and back to bed. Straight back to sleep.

    Maybe you can help?
    I wake 2 -4 times nightly needing to pee.
    However when I go, there is almost nothing there, but the urgency goes away.
    So why do I need to pee when the bladder is not full or even slightly full?
    How can I fix this?

    • @DrEricLeckie
      @DrEricLeckie  Год назад

      Hey Peter, thanks for the comment. It sounds like you’re in need of bladder retraining to get reduce the amount of urges you experience. This can be the result of you attending to every urge over the years. Please go and get a check up and do some blood work with your doctor to ensure you don’t have an infection or anything else going on and then check out my bladder retraining video here. I hope this helps: ruclips.net/video/Z9dR0sA9yn0/видео.html

      Why not just keep a bed pan like hospitals do. We also kept one in our bedroom when we were children. The next morning my mom would pour it around the vegetable garden. The chemicals in the urine would be like a vitamin to the vegetables, making them grow bigger than usual.

    It is vital, especially as you get older NOT to allow the bladder to fill with fluid and stay for a long period. It kills the kidneys, does more to cause Kidney and Liver damage than almost anything. So regular relief of the bladder content is essential..
