Thousand Roads - David Crosby

- I used to walk around with my eyes on fire
My nerves real close to my skin
Had a fist full of questions and a brand on my cheek
And we would skate where the ice got thin
And the smoke blowin' down from a cabin on a hilltop
Smoke blowin' down in the street
Some kind of sweet smellin' mystical backdrop
To the story unfolding at my feet
There's an edge to the twist of an acrobat in the air
There's an edge to the twist of a knife
There's a hard heart of darkness hovering there
Just around the corner from life
And I, I have no answers
I got no patented path to set you free
Besides I wouldn't know where you wanted to go
And it's probably not the same place as me
Instrumental (Electric Guitar)
There's a thousand roads up this mountain
You can get lost in a minute if you try
And it's probably enough that I was just laughing today, yeah
Lookin' this close in your eye
I said there was a thousand roads up this mountain
You can get lost in a minute if you try
It's probably enough that I was just laughing today, yeah
Looking this close in your eye, in your eye
In your eye
The fine play on the strings of souls...Every word is pronounced with a meaning impressed in it...Rest in peace, wonderfull musician...
The way he sings this song makes you feel you are walking along side him
I like this version more than I like the studio version. Also loved David's intro to it.
Not even close.
woüld like this Version on CD or Vinyl.
Rip Legend 💔
I heard this on Roseanne and it resonated with me for some odd reason. RIP 🤍
My favorite Crosby tune. Rest easy, storyteller.
That voice! R.I.P. , David Crosby.
This early solo version is 1,000x more majestic and epic than the studio version. Pure mastery of songwriting, singing and elegant/enchanting minimalism on the D45. ;-)
yes, this is the only version for me.
Absolutely.
@@TimFuller Sorry i may be off here but your reply to Darma , on his comment was you did not agree & now you are . Which may i ask is which ? You said Not even close !!! . That's for this Live version from The Acoustic Concert DVD. Better than the studio track ? yea it is....
Goosebumps watching Cros play this tune
Truer words were never spoken
Pure genius.
I think everyone can relate to this song somehow.
I always come back to this. Living Legend
David Crosby always seemed so likable!
Incredible talent.....CSN....AND Y.....They were one of the greatest assemblies of rock vocalists and instruments ever created!
Just my opinion......
absolutely!
Right
Dead-on
An absolutely great opinion if I may say so❣️
Very hard missing him for sure - phone has been so silent-
One can really only properly identify with the message of this song if yer on the same wavelength. Would that I were so talented that I could express these sentiments like David.
A Fine Song, and story told. Thx for sharing.

Where was this captured?
The first time I met David Crosby was on his Thousand Roads Tour
(saw him first in 1982-83 / I was 12-13)
Oh yea.
Roseanne brought me back ❤
I'm here because of Roseanne
I loved him on the George Carlin show❣️
What year was this show?
1990 or 91 I believe
1991
If this is the acoustic tour with just him and Graham, I was at the show in Middletown Ohio. Snuck backstage and was too terrified to approach him or Graham who were surrounded by fans as they entered the room.
I and my girlfriend were standing off the to the side in awe and began speaking with this lovely lady with long blonde hair having no idea it was Jan Crosby. She asked if we’d met David and I explained I was too nervous. She took me by the hand and introduced me to David as her friend. All I remember was thanking him and then he asked if we’d met Graham. He then led us over and introduced us to Graham Nash. Absolutely surreal for a 20 year old that saw these men as Gods.
10 years later I was alone at the Kiel Center seeing CSNY2K and was given a backstage pass by Stephen Stills chiropractor’s wife that I’d just happened to be chatting with before the show.
Backstage (with a camera for proof) I met David and Graham for a second time and was able to thank Jan for her kindness years before and she actually remembered me and asked about the pretty blonde I’d had with me back then.
My heart is broken at the news of his passing and aches for Jan and those closest to him.

Wow!
Similar to how I met him my first time- the Strand in Redondo Beach, CA which sadly no longer exists
Jan she was pregnant as my friend never thought but it was an extremely small venue - she told us where to go afterwards
I was absolutely struck by not “star” but the history his represents.
When I shook his hands it was very overwhelming and could tell the hard toil with such love
Uno what I am trying to say? It’s some thing I find hard to put into words... but maybe you kind of been there done that might understand...
I was fortunate to meet him 2 more times 1.) CPR House of Blues/Hollywood also defunct after a huge flood
2.) Palace/Hollywood at UCLA Benefit where I got to meet Nash but couldn’t reach Stills
Never different each time sincere, took time never rushing & for me made me even for just a moment felt as a fan that I mattered which has meant so much to me & I hope will always be a memory of mine.
Thanks for sharing your story❣️was great to read another’s experience- the best to you 🤗
