They should make General Zod, Ursa and Nun.
I would really like to see how they actually break down the finished model so it can be separated into parts and cast.
The is Chavant Clay or Plasteline is a wax based clay. NS is best for mold making. It isn't necessarily a firmer clay seeing it comes in soft/medium/hard. I have no clue why they just placed the Super Sculpey Firm with it. Hahaha
The Interviewer is asking so many good questions. props to him.
Heh, props.
I scrolled to the comments section to see if anyone else had the same thought!
as a miniature painter and a concept artist, is amazing to see this process. it stills boggles my mind how can you achieve such realistic look with basically acrylic paint and inks. I struggle to make my miniatures look not cartoony and these guys can literally achieve any type of texture with only paint. Incredible job, i hope one day i can work on concepts for these guys.
Man, the raw talent these guys have is incredible! I have the utmost respect for them.
Midnight Aaron
No lie and the Average Salary is 80,000 per year. Top Guys make over 100k.
No matter how many features I see/hear/read about Sideshow's process, I'm always blown away each and every time. Nice interviews.
Amazing amount of detail, work, and commitment. Nice job Sideshow!
I could watch stuff like this all day :-D
You're a very good interviewer.... You come up with the best questions.
respect this job requires to be skiiled and hard work
+Doruk Ozalgan and its bad that the 3d printers will replace it...and not only this job
+Makhs Mpikoulas who do you think creates 3d models? Oh yeah... Sculptures
+Makhs Mpikoulas you still need a sculptor to create a 3d model dude. If you think it's as simple as pressing a few buttons, you couldn't be more wrong.
Toastalicious of course you need one...i tried to make some 2..i tried to produce too and i know that this isnt some buttons too...but this is 100 times harder than the program 3d..
Pretty late reply, but this is more like a "YMMV" thing IMO. Some people prefer to have the freedom of digital sculpting but some enjoy being able to touch and feel their sculptures.
Plus, if you 3D print something you still need to clean it up as much as whatever you pull out of your mold lol.
I really enjoy everything he interviews for, knows his stuff and as mentioned before key on what to ask...That studio is a candy store love this stuff!
I could watch this stuff all day
Mario had a career change!!!!
well, he sucked at being a plumber, he run of from time to time, talking to shrooms with a task of saving a princess. This he can do for a living and can share with the world. But i must admit, after the recovery he had to go through in 2010, he looks better than ever, he is not hurting turtles anymore, he is not jumping up and down from the sewer systems anymore. He is basically a new and sober Mario now, and i am happy for him!
Things really turned around for him after he gave up the shrooms.
Mario was a painter on SNES.
@@aidengoodchild and a (Vacuum)Cleaner on the GameCube XD
I’ve got my first two Sideshow figures coming later this year - Iron Man Mark 3 and Mortighull Death Reaper General. I’ve been following their work for years now and I look forward to a LOOOONG relationship in the future. Thanks for being awesome Sideshow!
These were great. Nice to see a detailed interview by someone who not only appreciates the craft but understands it too. Wish they were longer.
I would sell my soul for this talent. I am in the midst of making a cover out of sculpting foams starting from polymer and making a silicone mold for the bottom half of my prosthetic leg for shape/athetics and it is not easy. They make it look so easy.
Go ahead and learn it. You can do it!
Just keep practicing mate, sculpt and sculpt and sculpt..!! See there is probably people who wish they could sculpt as good as YOU.. we are all just at different stages of learning!!
Prototypes are still one of my biggest gripes with collector culture. Having bought very large, very expensive pieces myself there's always this anxiety about what the production paintwork is going to be like.
In the industry as it is now, multi-million pound/dollar companies like Sideshow really shouldn't be having the issue of the overseas production team having 'different paints' higher skilled people should be employed to replicate much closer to the original pitch.
One in particular was the Prime 1 Geralt statue that I initially missed out on, living in England we rarely ever get these huge, expensive polystone pieces because very few can afford or are willing to pay because of the extortionate price rise with our 20% tax on luxury items.
In the end I caved after finding one in Australia for much more than the usual retail price, with the cost of the model, extremely expensive delivery and customs and import tax on top it ended up costing me a little under £1000.
Opening it up, I was impressed and did like what I had but compared to the prototype it was worlds apart in paint application, it was overall just lighter and too 'clean' looking with some paint details that are far too bright on the Chort head base which is supposed to be a wild, dangerous, dirty monster and just looks a little cartoonish with its green details in parts.
The prototypes barely look like they justify the price tags they're asking in the UK and the production quality is absolutely unjustifiable for the price for the most part.
That said production vs prototype quality has improved over the years but as such the price has increased.
It can't afford to get higher but the quality in most cases could be pushed that little bit further for no real extra cost.
Love the detail in each of these figures. Pure art!
I like norm. He always asks very good questions to whomever he's interviewing.
Anthony Mestas is an absolute paint genius, I would happily pay a lot more to have him paint my stuff.
I feel like Norm has listened to criticisms of his early interviews and improved considerably. Very fascinating episode. Good job folks.
This was so cool. Thank you for sharing Tested!
I have seen so many amazing models sculpted, but once they get painted they look terrible.. That shows how important is painting!
Damn that was a good interview. Good job Norm!
Yay i couldn't wait for this I love learning about behind the scenes at prop makers and collectables please make more of these types of videos!
This is absolutely incredible. I’m not even into 3-D sculpting yet I would totally want to work for you guys. Career change alert. I am definitely going to order from this company now. Damn these high prices, yet it totally looks worth it.
This is amazing. If I could sculpt rather than draw, it's definitely a field I'd get into.
me too..
Zbrush ;)
Draw your sculptures :P Haha
Just do it i draw as well and tried i am trying my hand at sculpting and i have surprised myself
Simon Lee is indeed no joke! These people are mind-blowing!
Now go find and interviewed who’s doing the mass producing of their prototype..
really inspiring !
Kinda wish you looked at the costuming process.
Simon Lee is the boss. Everything that guy does is top notch and shows incredible character.
Fascinating process to see, love to see more of these videos, and very smart questions from the interviewer 😎
This is great, I would LOVE to see more about the molding process.
I am an ultra-detail sculptor, this is my DREAM JOB.
Brilliant!!! Your delivery of facts and above the fun associated with this job are great...
Big thanks for taking the time to do and share this... 😉👍
These guys at Sideshow rock mountains-watch all videos
I sorely wish they can get a tour and interview at the factory in China. I want to see how they churn out these statues, and the quality control process for the final product.
Here's one for a smaller production (Predator bust) by Akihito Ikeda! ruclips.net/video/GF_Pb_a9sEs/видео.html&ab_channel=Studio_AKI
Thank you for this informative peek inside the studio.
The skull from behind ... are real ? Wtf ?
These sideshow videos are fantastic guys! Thanks!
Thank you!
hey sideshow do you guys ever use 3d resin printing in your production. i love your sculpts they are amazing just like the action in the comic books
I can see the Herzog bust in the back ground! I loved Deadsnow, I've always wanted that sculpture :D
Amazing interviews! So informative & fascinating. Thank you to everyone involved.
NORM YOU'RE KILLING IT MAN!!
I wish I could sculpt that looks incredible. This was a great interview
I really like that Count Orlok back there!
5:36 "Hello! It's me, Mario"
Herro! It's a me, Malio XD
I started sculpting a few weeks ago! it has been a stuggle :P but gotta keep going :P
The interviewer makes me nervous waving his arms around like a mad man near the clay piece. I'm sure the guy working on it was thinking the same .... :D
his hand is far away from that thing there is no way he can touch it .
iz Zz hahaha so true
That's Chevant clay, it's so firm you'd have to punch it to make a Dent
You know, I admire these artists for what they do. I am not going to knock them. But I will say there are plenty of artists out there with similar talent, and I am kind of more impressed with the darn Chinese, which are able to replicate these things almost perfectly and mass produce them so that they are attainable to the people that truly nerd out over this stuff. I can't imagine how much work went into creating the manufacturing process.
JacobsDesigns2012 tmac20031 They really don't do a great job of replicating the original artist's paint work, which is why I've never given in to buying a sideshow statue, you can commission an actual artist like the guy who painted the original sculpt to paint your model and it would look 10x nicer.
But basically, from what I've seen of production for items like this, they have tables of workers, they each get their own basket of parts and their reference material and they go to work.
Chinese artist crying here 😢..
bff
p
I just seen the Devil from the movie legend behind you man I would give my right arm for that sculpture
And the super man
Waoo so the guys overseas are the real genues since they don’t get any guides and need to replicable all the colors which a lot of times the outer color is a mix of many different layers of God know what colors he use. Cheers to those anomymous heroes!
Great to see the process...involved
These are the best kind of videos
These guys would have great careers in 80s film effects and would do stuff in films today if it wasn't for bloody cgi.....really good they can use there talents making this stuff amazing
02:15 What is the name of the mermaid figure? Looks amazing!
Penny!!
Court Of Deaths Siren
@@nikkisantana1416 Thank you!!
Aaabsolutely loved this. Great questions by norm and super interesting subject.
Norman did his homework, great questions.
loved this! so cool to see behind the scenes like that!
Any suggestions on the type of paint they use? Any specific brand recommended?
This is awesome, Tested!
You know what you should try and do next? Catching some of the RPF guys working on some of their pieces, along with showing off their collection. I know those guys have day jobs and so it might be hard, but still, it would be amazing.
EDIT: I know you sort of do this from time to time, but I'd like something more in-depth.
Absolutely awesome work guys. Keep up the great work fellas
Thank you so much for this video
What is the mermaid sculpture on the right in the beginning from?
I had no idea Mario worked in your painting department!
Beautiful work
Great interview... Getting my first sideshow statue on Monday. Yay!!!!
I would love to see the factory floor !
The Joker figure is especially awesome!
Flippin marvelous! Really enjoyed that.
love you sideshow dudes
at around 4:30he says something about breaking into pieces separating the parts. I want to see that process. Is there any videos of the CUTTING up of a complex sculpt like this. I would love to see that process. How do they take such a complex sculpt and make individual parts. Not the mold and cast part.........the cutting off of the arm, legs, head....etc.....that is the mystery.
Great artwork!!!
The is Chavant Clay or Plasteline is a wax based clay. NS is best for mold making. It isn't necessarily a firmer clay seeing it comes in soft/medium/hard. I have no clue why they just placed the Super Sculpey Firm with it. Hahaha
The art work is amazing!
What beautiful sculptures congratulations
Greetings from Ecuador..🇪🇨🖐😊
These are awesome, Im a big fan of painting statues, I am a bit new to the hobby and Ive mainly done cement lawn ornaments. Where would I get my hands on something like these to paint? It doesent have to be this guys stuff cause clearly that would cost a fortune.
I know this is an older video but can someone PLEASE tell me what that figure/piece is at 3:20 next to the "undying carcass" on the top shelf farthest right?? Looks amazing, some guy with a creature bursting out of his chest! Would love to know!
I LOVED THE ENDING :) WOOT WOOT
this is so epic. i also draw and wish i did sculpting. I always loved it. lol im doing 3D printing but i still wanna learn this. alas there are no closes in South Africa...
God having a like that job would be a dream come true!
I wish the final mass released product has the same quality of paint apps as the prototypes

ITS MARIO
masterpiece
Outstanding!
wow very creative. good work
The New 52 Wonder Woman looks brilliant. does anyone what the blue statue to the right is. I can't find it in the store. These people do some amazing work.
what an awesome job. amazing
Is sideshow collectibles any plans to design and produce figures of the three main characters of 'jaws' with the 40 th anniversary only just under two years away? Chief brody, quint and hooper?
Is there a video of the actual production at the factory???
I want to make one, does are some good skillz
great video and informative. love it
Are those suits on the sculptures real fabric or is it textured and painted surface? If they textured and painted it to look like real fabric that's amazing.
Nevermind, second video answered it. It's fabric.
Some mention that dental instruments are also appropriate for clay work. Does anyone know if this is so? Because if this is the case I will go to buy such tools.
In the first part, there are three statues on the table, what's the right one? Can someone tell?
Not sure if you found it but its Gallevarbe from Court of the Dead. You can order it here: www.sideshowtoy.com/collectibles/court-of-the-dead-deaths-siren-sideshow-collectibles-400243/
Thank you so much! :)
Oh, yes! Now we're talking.
A tour of the chinese factory would be awesome
After moulding and casting the original clay model how do they break the statue apart so it can be reconstructed?
The artists design the breakdown of the sculpture before the final sculpture. The work them to fit together like a puzzle.
Awesome ♥️ I love Sideshow Collectables
Simon Lee, of course!
