- I show how to resting the Black+Decker 18v Weed Eater/Trimmer/Edger. Model: NST2118. This spool also fits all these other trimmers: GH500, GH600, GH610, GH900, GH912, ST6600, ST7000, ST7700, CST1000, CST1200, CST2000, MTC220, MTE912, NST2018, NST1118, NST2118, LST220, LST300, LST400, LST420, LST136
Use the string I linked below and get the string that I've found works the best at auto feeding. You can even do a sloppy job at winding it and you don't need to let it sit for a day.

So, you're saying to use the correct line for the spool and let it sit for a day. In real life we run out of line in the midfle of the job, so that means two spools to alternate. You just gave me a reason to buy a pre-wrapped spool for whatever weed whacker I own. This is very good to know.
And thank you for the prompt reply. You're the best.
Thanks for watching! I have like 5 spools that I cycle through. Also, if you're still using the 18v NiCad battery version, there's a way to convert it to use 20v Lithium batteries. The battery will last a very long time. Here's the link to the video I made for that: ruclips.net/video/2ox04LSdFZo/видео.html
@@becausestuffbreaks Mine's a plugin model, but at least I have a really long cord. LOL
I have the plug-in type (grasshog), and after 13yrs of use, I’ve only had to replace the wire just yesterday (just for home use). But I used it right away with no problems, not sure why this guy is saying to let the spool sit for a day🤔
To overcome the elastic memory of the string that allows it to be loose and spit out too much when it auto feeds.
Exactly what we were looking for! Thanks so much for showing the steps of restringing. 👍🤜🤛
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the heads up on the correct string size & how it matters. :)
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I've noticed the heavier line does not feed automatically as well. You need to use .065" line for electric trimmers using Auto Feed Spools (AFS).
Thanks for watching!
Use this video every year! Thanks for the second time!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
this instruction is what I was looking for. thanks for posting. will definitely try rewinding the spools.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I will be trying to do a restring tomorrow so I can use the weed eater the next day!!
You're welcome. Also, I found the best string that fixed all my auto feed issues and lasts a long time. Don't even have to let it sit over night: www.amazon.com/dp/B001JQC476/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_J6MLdCpgElZU7
Too many layers of line and the twisted string causes mine not to feed properly...The max I put on is 2 1/2 layers of line and smooth string. I also spray the inside of the spool and line with silicone prior to use. This works best for me and thought I'd pass it on... Thanks
I started using this string and now I have no issues. www.amazon.com/dp/B001JQC476/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_xFU4foyL2Felu
I still don't understand "How" the autofeed works, or why letting it sit for a day can make it work. What tells the feeder that the string is too short and needs to be let out?
There's a little lever inside that wiggles back and forth with inertia to let more line out. You can tape it to make it stop feeding and become a manual type.
I usually rev it up, and hit the autofeed button- that makes it come out a little at a time. the autofeed button stops the rotor kind of suddenly which makes the spool come out.
Mine just doesn't release the line when I press the button. I've tried mid cutting and stopped cutting and pressed the bottom. I have to keep taking the cover off of the bottom and pulling it manually.
Thank you Justin for this second video!....I just got my first electric trimmer yesterday and I am definitely going to be winding my own spools..good to know the same size line and letting the spools sit a day or 2 is the answer...Such easy videos to follow what you are doing...I have subscribed...Thanks again and be safe.
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help. What trimmer are you getting? If it's the same as mine, you can convert it to a Lithium Battery and it will last 10x longer. Here's the video I made on how to convert it: ruclips.net/video/2ox04LSdFZo/видео.html
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
thanks man. this got my trimmer back up and running. You saved me money!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Hi there, I'm trying to re string mine, did it 3 times in last hour, this is exactly how instruction in manual says to do but mine keeps unwinding as I start running it and the wire gets longer and longer (10-12")!! what am I doing wrong?
Don't know if you found your issue, but when I went to restring mine a little lever underneath the spool fell out. Lost it in the grass somewhere and had to replace it
Wow this really works.. I did this today. Thanks
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
great job, much better video than other one, i cant believe if u hav2wait a day for smoother effeicency, also a better vid on the components of the clip that it snaps into on the base wldv been helpful, how do we know if that is malfunctioning, right? thanks!
Found this string to work the best for auto feed also. www.amazon.com/dp/B001JQC476/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_G75QD0WPD3AHRYKWDXWH
I've found the newer refills have slightly smaller barrel holes (not sure if design or quality control) in the middle resulting in too much friction. I've used a bit of WD-40 which works sometimes but a quick run through with a round file always seems to do the trick. If you take too much out it'll feed too fast tho so careful.
This string fixed all my problems: www.amazon.com/dp/B001JQC476/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_3bwQ58Y6FQgNS
Thank you Justin!!!
You're welcome. I'm about to do a video on what string works the best. Let me know if you want a link to it.
Thanks, found this video :)
I'm glad you found it. I wish I could replace the old one with this video.
I use that same Rino-Tuff 0.080" line and just can't seem to get any feed issues. It always works fine for me. What am I doing wrong such that I should revert back to using 0.065" line?
If it works fine for you, keep doing it
Easier to just buy the already loaded spools. Just ordered 6 spools for $12.38 from Amazon. Comes with a new cap and spring.
Yep. Thanks for watching!
Two string
Hi, i just found this "Speed-Feed 400 Universal Bump Feed Trimmer Head" video...i don't know if you know about it, but you're probably very used to loading the spools the old way, anyway...i don't know if it fits the B&D trimmer...It's also a bit pricey at $40...He has a link under his video...
ruclips.net/video/2JotIRjSOmQ/видео.html
Also, i don't know if you can do a double line on a B&D...This video is not for a B&D, but it shows how to do a double line, though it seems like there needs to be 2 separate spaces with a divider in between...ruclips.net/video/Nk7wwI1CIGo/видео.html
Oooo. That is an interesting idea. I can try to modify mine to do a double string. I'll film it if I do it.
