    So this is the interesting thing about the RUclips situation. No one who was in the US saw this video at the time. No one in the US saw her British performances or interviews. I’m actually listening to this Madonna biography on Audible called MADONNA A rebel life. It was published October 2023.
    It’s very detailed not just about her but her family, friends and the people who helped her on her journey to stardom. I’m at the point where she’s trying to get the songs together for her debut album and so far I’m loving it & I think you would too! 😊 ❤

    The thing with Erotica and the Sex book was that it was ahead of its time. Yes, it definitely shocked people and yes, it hurt her career somewhat but her diehard fans 🙋🏼‍♂️still supported her. Sex was a success financially. Erotica the album suffered from the controversy because it should have been a much bigger success. In my opinion, it was her first truly cohesive album (aside from 83) and was a masterpiece. Among her fans it’s usually listed among her five best albums of all time. But Sex and Erotica broke barriers. Yes she took the heat but it made it easier for women to be more sexual and liberated within the music industry and society in general. It broke a dam… a glass ceiling where women were finally competing with men on a roughly equal level on the charts. Yah, there were big female acts before Madonna but they were outliers… 1 act out of 20 or 30 male acts. Look how many big female artists there are now.
    And as for Erotica and Sex, they are looked at very differently now. Some younger people don’t even see what the big fuss was about.. that’s how much the culture shifted. This was a seminal point in Madonna’s career and in society. Nothing was really the same after that. And despite alll the backlash, Madonna still survived, and had an extensive career afterwards. She proved her talent and her staying power time and time again, against some of the strongest opposition any music artist ever faced. Erotica is considered a cult/fan favourite album and the Sex book was so cool they even had an art show and reissue of the book in the last couple of years… its cultural and artistic merit finally being recognized.

    Hey Empress! Haven’t seen this interview in forever. I think the Erotica era truly shook her, and it took Bedtime Stories, Evita, & Ray of Light to get her back in “good graces.” I adore Madonna, but she is the perfect narcissist to be a mega star - she doesn’t dodge the questions because she loves talking about herself, and is curious about what she might say. I can relate as a fellow Leo 😂

      hahaha Ruby Wax was a hot mess, one of the few times Madonna cut an interview short. It had the potential to be great as Madonna was very funny, bitchy in a funny way and rather candid for a good part but Ruby dug her hole deeper and deeper in the end and she also did something, where i would have taken it outside if i was Madonna lol, the end was tragic. Madonna had alot more patience that i would have lol

    as far as madonna and her "no regrets", she seems to be of the opinion that since you can't go back and change things - there is no "if" - that there is no point in regret. you take the l. you learn from your mistake. what's done is done.

      I think Madonna has come around to the era and is actually proud of it again. I think she understands how revolutionary and badass it was. And in the end, it didn’t kill her career… she had multiple successes, so why have regrets? It’s a great album, the book was art, and she heavily featured songs from Erotica in her Celebration Tour. Whatever she may have felt at the time, she now understands how seminal this era was in her career.

I think Christopher was too invested in her touring that when that money dries up he never ventured on his own. So that could be frustrating for family members that are the financial providers.

(She found out filming Evita) Although it could be Tupac Carlos may have been a little after theres a crossover. She still wrote to and visited Tupac in jail in 1995. He finished the relationship in Jail. They were actually both in a dangerous situation with gangs and shit. Shes had a wild life. He was warning her in the letters. I agree about the book & album being released at the same time was a bit too much because the book kind of overshadowed the artistry of the album and wasn’t really perceived as a companion to Erotica. Christopher didn't write his book until 2007, I believe. It was during the hard candy Era. I find it so strange that when their father and stepmother walked in to see madonna, he didn't say hi or interact with them. As soon as he walked in, Chris walked out. I wonder if that was around the time Chris came out to their father and he didn't take it well writing Chris a letter telling him that he thought he was mentally ill because he was gay. Anyway, he's still working for Madonna but as her dresser, and he's embarrassed by it. He dating some guy, but he's still very much a part of madonnas life, but he wanted nothing to do with Truth Or Dare. He didn't want to be a part of it in any way. They wouldn't have their fall out until after the Girllie Show tour. I guess madonna wanted a painting. He would buy painting for her before at auction and she would pay him back later. I guess he got this one painting she wanted at the time but when he got it she changed her mind and didn't want it anymore and didn't pay him back for. That was the beginning of the fallout. I personally think he didn't handle it well. For someone who knew madonna the way he did, he didn't treat things as if he knew her so well. Guess that's why they say you should never work with family.

    • @graphiquejack
      @graphiquejack Месяц назад +2

      I think Christopher used her as much as she used him. It’s not like he didn’t get a lot of perks by working for Madonna and being associated with her. She invited him to New York and encouraged him to pursue his career. Maybe she felt in those ways she was ‘paying’ him and maybe she felt because they were family, that family just helped each other by actions, not necessarily financially. I think they both probably treated each other badly at times, but the book was a deep betrayal. She’s forgiven him, but I don’t think I would have. I get that family can be terrible to each other but you keep that mess within the family. Once you start spilling the T to the public, you’re dead to me. By all means be mad, don’t associate with them, whatever, but to profit off of trashing your family? Nope.

      @@EmpressReacts She has forgiven him which imo is very generous. I never read his book but he wrote it when they had a fall out and were not on speaking terms and he dragged her, basicly making money by talking bad about her and her name after she employed him and took him under her wing to move to NYC, live with her, encouraged him to be himself and embrace his sexuality and gave him high paid jobs as her creative director for her tours after first taking him on the road for her first appareances as a dancer. It was a horrible thing to do to your sister after he made so much just by being associated with her. Also i wonder why he never worked for other people if he was that creative or talented? I feel like Madonnas family expects her to take care of them at all times even though they have their own opportunities. Anyway they made up, i think they are good again but i also know the book really hurt her and she didnt speak to him for quite a while after that. He slammed her marriage, husband at the time as well in it.

    I think the SEX book was great, even then. It was something no one had (Still) never done, but yeah, it should've been a project in between albums, not hurting Erotica. It's considered art now, when it was showcased in an art exhibition in Miami, a few years ago and being rereleased for over 2000 Dollars. I think Americans reacted very differently than us Europeans, where nudity and sex were more accepted and quite usual in films, French songs and art, especially at that time.
