- A 79-year-old former flight attendant is suing Delta Air Lines for firing her, telling Inside Edition she believes she was let go of because of her age. Ida Gomez Llanos says during her 57 years of service, she received praise by employers for her work. She says her attendance was also spotless. “Luckily, my health is excellent. I never get sick,” she told Inside Edition. She says she was abruptly fired eight months ago after somebody claimed that she took a carton of milk from an airplane. #InsideEdition
She seems really nice! I think they just wanted to get rid of her
Absolutely yes, but they use mean act to do so.
@@CetribeaBurundibwiza-tz5le so true

Same thing I’m thinking regarding her work ethic!
Probably is , alot of jobs discriminate against you if your old ,no matter what race , and if your black or biracial guy like me they won't hire you, they prefer illigals , over biracial men like me sad ,
Yes!!! She earned that salary!! Sad they would let it all go over gossip.
Not a sick day in 30 years while i have ten in in 7 days

I legit spent 30 sick hours in one month 😟 and I still have my job 🤦♂️
From your grammar issues I would recommend trying to fix that habbit.

All I can say is I hope she will get benefits for this whole thing and her dedication to the airline for so many years!
She got fired. All she will receive is unemployment unless it doesn't pay seniors over 65. She may be left in the dirt.

I think there is a lot we don't know...one thing for sure as a 4'11" she was asking other attendants to put the carry-on luggage up because she couldn't...where do you draw the line at not covering all of her job. Woman: gets fired over age
Attorney: *wait, that's illegal*
Very legal
If it’s an at will job there’s nothing you can do they can fire you for literally and reason legally
feodufg3r4weozjmkdwopsqkf3
No, you cannot fire someone based on age, sex, religion, status, nationality, etc. that goes against discrimination laws. They likely wanted to fire her based on age, but to make it look good they used another excuse.
she is 79.....
They just wanted to get rid of her because of the salary she was earning. They can hire four workers for the salary she was making.
sound like for 20 years... each mangement just don't want to deal with it so they let her be....
“It’s not nice” I felt that
I think she was probably fired over that 250k salary
Of course
That's four new employees.

So true!!! Why pay her that much money when you can get another young woman to do the same job for a fraction of that??
Eom Kell and young
Even taking a carton of milk is borderline ridiculous
Eletricell 18 I mean it’s against policy
Matthew Ritterson still tho that’s harsh suspend her but don’t fire her
Other flight attendants have taken pop cans and alcohol I have seen.
I doubt she stole milk, she was making $250k a year
So what if she took a carton of milk, maybe she had none fresh at home, it could have been late, and she might not have wanted to stop at a convenience store, at her age she'd be a target for any thief.
The lady is so cute and beautiful 😂❤
And if she is healthy and it really is because of her age, let the lady work! She can move her body just fine 😂
Awww I feel so bad! This is so wrong!
No is not
Ruben Corona How is it not wrong?Delta fires her for no reason at all.
Ruben Corona yeah it is 😂 she got fired because of her age, that’s so stupid and mean!
It’s not wrong that she was fired because she’s honestly too old to be doing this job. It’s however wrong the way she was fired.

I agree. There's two sides to every story.
250K per year?! When I say my jaw dropped😲 that's why they fired her....
@Picolas Cage I dont think that's how it works
@Picolas Cage you're only half right. I'm a southwest FA. Certain trips do pay more but you'll be paid at YOUR hourly rate for working the trip not the hourly pay of the senior FA unless you have 57 years with the company lol
@Picolas Cage yeah buy would it better just give it too younger people...
this is honestly so sad
She's an historical figure. She should be treated with the utmost respect. Classy & elegant, which is more than I can say for the airline industry.
If anyone from delta is reading this give this woman her job back !!!!
I'm a pilot for delta I'm sorry we can't she's too old to fulfill her duties

Boycott Delta airlines!
Not a sick day for 30 years?? That's dedication. Delta got a fine employee here, she could be an instructress/mentor for the airline's stewardess roster. Hope she gets the justice she deserves.
I’m a Fuel Technician for Menzies Aviation and I fuel aircrafts at Delta. I actually have seen her a couple times on the job. She was always so sweet.
Flight attendants were gossiping about her and a stolen milk carton? She has enough money to buy her own at the grocery store. Jealous flight attendants.
As soon as I heard “Delta” I already know this woman was wronged.
You've only heard her side, remember.
Lol delta is a joke
LOL I died.
If presidents can be old then she should be allowed to work too 😂
you know it a physical work right? it not just doing nothing job....
Niko I was told by a flight attendant that I should put the luggage up myself. If that flight attendant is right, then your reasoning doesn’t sound convincible to me because customers should put luggage up themselves at first hand.
Oh my gosh! I had her on a flight in business class from LAX to Shanghai pudong! She was amazing, I remember being shocked by how quickly she moved for how tiny and older she is! Very polished service as well! Delta firing the wrong employees...
I also just remembered that she was working that flight on Christmas day.
Feel like there’s a lot of unknowns here...
Here’s the reason she was fired.... because she was getting paid $250k!! The airline didn’t want to pay that anymore.
57 yrs of working for a company and fired because someone said she "stole" milk🤔. I hope they have "proof" cause if not they're gonna be paying her a pretty penny.
As an EMT student wanting to be a firefighter... I know that it’ll eventually happen to me 🤷♂️ It’s just safety. But the way they handled this is unacceptable.
Finally someone understands...it is a safety concern.
Exactly...realistically an 85lb elderly woman can not be expected to complete all of the safety related duties of this position, flight attendants aren’t there to just serve cokes, they’re main responsibility is to implement their training to save your life, but most people don’t know that🤦🏽♀️
E_man -228 I mean I agree but what else could they have done better tbh they can’t say she’s too old or not strong/healthy. They probably could have made a new cap on age or lower her paycheck but she would probably still sue because her excuse would be that they fired her because of her age
That’s just unfair
79.... and 250k a year... yeah very unfair...
Arent flight attendants supposed to be capable of swimming a certain distance and be able to support people in the case the plane lands in the ocean or theres an emergency.
My initial taught! she is way past retirement age and earned enough to be able to do so
Delta will settle no doubt
You still can’t fire someone over their age. It’s discrimination.
The smart thing to do would have been to offer her a retirement package
Wow I didnt know that had to be able to do all those things
This happens even when you're young. Jealousy in the workplace is everywhere
They can say whatever they want but they better give this women back her job
She better have full benefits and retirement 🙏🏽 she deserves to live peacefully.
She was not fired because she stole a milk carton she wasn’t even fired for doing that regularly, she was fired because she would never declare the items she stole at customs (she typically flew SYD-LAX) and this would delay the flight, sometimes hours at a time putting ripples throughout the DL system.
A milk carton doesn't delay a flight. They just take it and throw it away. Total lies
That's just cruel, she worked at the airlines for so long just for them to betray her like that
She’s probably better than all of them because she is old she knows what she is doing
Older Flight attendants tend to get fired because they get paid a lot more. It’s sad.
laurenmlahrman you sound like one of those new little flight attendants that don't want to do their job and spend all the time texting when you should be working
She’s been working there for so long and has done nothing that’s bullshjt
Yes she did, she's gotten older.
I know this lady- her son (pictured) was one of my best friends in high school and I was at her house all the time. There is no way she was stealing- she loved her career and would never do anything to jeaopardize it.
I am no longer in touch with them but I hope she wins!!
When I was a kid, I always heard that the general age for retirement was 65. But now, it seems more and more people not only want to work beyond 65 but they NEED to work. It’s really a shame that this lovely, and fully capable woman, is suddenly fired over something so minuscule. Like many others have said they probably just needed any reason they could find, to fire her. She’s never missed a day in 30 years too. It’s just so wrong. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone lied or set her up for the stupid milk. I hope she wins and then she can retire on her own terms.
Why didnt she retire? Shes almost 80! This shows though, dont be too loyal to a job.
I mean if you've worked at the same job for as long as that, pretty sure it's not just a job anymore
when you get paid 250k... yeah you not leaving anytime soon...
What a sweet lady, how could anyone fire her like that 🥺? This world can be way too cruel sometimes.
that’s awful! she seems like an amazing woman to be served by on a flight, so disappointed that she was let go. she sounded like a dedicated employee 😔
They did the same thing at Regions Bank to my Grandma. She worked there for a long long time and never made a mistake or got a write up or whatever. One day she cashed out a check to some guy who had all the necessary stuff to cash it, and got fired because the check was fake/stolen. They were looking for an excuse to fire her for years.
That is called "retirement".
it's called ageism. she didn't choose to retire.
@@elisejackson2854 I was joking, sis.
@@elisejackson2854 when the job require physical work... clearly they let her stay for too long...

I bet they fired her cause they were paying her so much
Sounds like they don’t wanna pay her retirement like some crooks
sound like they try but she won't take it... so legal fight it is....
“It’s not nice” broke my heart 🥺🥺
Wow not one sick day in 30 years! That is amazing
If she can work then let her work
Ageism at it's finest.
She may have had perfect health but probably staying working from the company for so long was a huge factor. My step dad worked at Home Depot as a manager for one of its biggest stores since he was in his early 20s in our hometown.
He had pulled his back and the company tried do get him to come to work earlier than he was suppose to which he refused. So my stepdad’s fellow managers and those above him got angry because of this and also because he working there for so long that his salary would have been high like this woman. They took advantage of a small complaint a new hired had made about him after he had criticized the worker for doing something dangerous that could had gotten himself and others work at the job which they used as an excuse to fire him but still gave him employee retirement benefits for working for the company for so long. So you see this this isn’t anything new, most all companies do this to losing money as my stepdad put it by the time a company starts to use minor complaints or errors against you that a sign you should retire or that your time is starting to run out.
She is soooo glamorous and she deserves BETTER...shame on you Delta
she’s been loyal for 57 years
When you have a nice job and well compensated,. You stay not because of loyalty,. It's being practical or you probably don't have a choice
spidey 749 ok boomer
She should have retired 20 years ago. If a plane were to crash I wouldn’t want my life in the hands of a 79 year old.
I mean, when you reach a certain age past 65 they can get rid of you. It’s messed up but they give you a buyout pay.
@BabyUnicornio hahahah! Andd that's funked up.
BabyUnicornio something tells me they offered her a settlement
@BabyUnicornio most company had but it a choice and she would get the memo...(79 she would get if for almost 20 years now...) if you don't retire... management will do something...

They probably thought of her as a liability
Probably the company that wanted her fired. Because of they paycheque they had to pay her

This is so disrespectful for them to fire her cause of her age.
Nah she worked for 57 years now she’s old she’s gone if she was that bad she should’ve been let go a long time ago
I’m not sure I believe she made 250k because I know for a fact new flight attendants do NOT make a fourth of that.

She was a flight attendant for 57 years that is why she made 250k a year! She did not make that starting out! The longer you work the bigger the paycheck
She got a lot of raises
Ugh I want to give her the biggest hug 😢
Kind of odd how one can last almost 60 years at their job to suddenly just fall apart like that at the end....you’d think after all those years she’d have it down pact....I’m inclined to believe she was framed.
The airline will have to prove those violations and have documentation of this. 😡😡😡😡
Ageism... just read an article on it recently 🤷🏼♂️
I would sue them get that $
She was making $250,000 a year and is like 80-90 years old. She needs to retire
Exactly . Delta could have done the right thing by her in all those years of service and considered her age and offered her the option to retire instead of firing her. That would have been the humane thing to do
They should just set an age limit, there I said it.😂
Bend over
Ikr
Someone should be judged on case by case basis only
Bend over for age check.
Why? Seriously, why? If someone can do the job better than others regardless of age why would you take an inferior flight attendant serving you on a flight? I'll take good service over age any day of the week.
Aw man! I would be wowing and amazed if she was my flight attendant during a flight! She sounds like she really loved her job and she is a workaholic. But common at 79 years old, for her own safety and healthy reasons is better she stop working ❤️❤️❤️

At 79 years old, there isn't much career left to be destroyed.
That doesn't make it ok to not let her retire after so many years of loyal employment! Wtf?
Yep, I agree. She needs pension, whether you like it or not
250k for a flight attendant?! No THAT is why they fired you! They just freed up 220k and replaced you with someone entry level

The people who fired her were like ok boomer
She isn't a boomer though
She is from the Silent generation not the boomer generation! Boomers were born between 1945-1964! She was born before 1945
Uhh no. Just no.
Nah she was from the greatest generation. The people who got her fired were probably entitled millenial fucksticks.
@Marybeth Langendorf all the more reason for her to leave I say
Atleast she's rich now
XD
Age should not be an issue let people work till whenever the hell they want, it's disrespectful to fire this lady, she wants to work !!!! I hope a different airline hires her!!!
Wish her the best ... 🙏🙏
Well... Eventually, everything comes to an end. Even good morals.
My grandma was fired from Disney for her age
She's put in the time for the seniority and pay. Yes I will be the first to admit that it's unfair for new hires (I've been shorthanded due to seniority and my lack of it, but I understand it) and I can't imagine how much that sucks when it comes to airline work. But, if the company is based on seniority of their employees with the first pick that should be the end of that discussion. It is absolutely wrong if this honest working woman was fired for some type of slander/discrimination.
She is 79, worked there 57 years and earned 250.000 dollars a year. Honestly, she just wants to keep milking it. Why should the airline keep having her on the payroll when they can get somebody at a much lower price and as a younger person is probably more in tune with the majority of their passengers. Time for her to retire - she can't just go on until she drops. How about showing some gratitude and giving up your place for somebody who is just starting their career. With that kind of salary she has been pulling, it is not like she is going to be destitute.
