Work for OSTPA (Ohio state tractor pullers association) and those tractors are around 3000 hp and can cost upwards of $400,000 and they are pulling a sled. If you look as they’re pulling there is a pan that moves towards the tractor as it’s going down the track there are switches inside that sled as the pan moves forward that drops the lower pan and applies pressure to the ground which makes it harder for the tractors to pull. They put weights in the upper pan and each weight is 2000 pounds This is just a little rundown of the sport.

The sled has a weight box(thing moving) on it driven by the tires. as it moves forward it puts more weight over what is known as the pan. thus making it more difficult to pull. Longest distance pulled wins.

Tractor pulling is a major motorsport here in the US (and Canada) in the rural areas. Virtually every county agricultural fair will have some form of tractor pulling There is a national sanctioning body NTPA (National Tractor Pulling Association) which regulates safety gear and the sled specifications. One of the major innovators in the sport was a man named Gardiner Stone. In the early 1980's when pullers in the unlimited class were using multiple drag car engines (sometimes as many as six) he started using WW2 vintage Allison V-12 engines from the likes of a P-38 lightning or P-40 kittyhawk. Later he used the gas turbine engines out of Huey helicopters. Classes run from Miny Mods that are basically a lawn tractor with a V-8 out of a muscle car to the unlimiteds. They also pull with pickup trucks and over the road large trucks. The tractors in the video are super stocks which are based on a production tractor with diesel but have as much commonality with a stock tractor does as a NASCAR stock car as a road car does

      @briglad5274 Год назад +3

In addition. they use a hand throttle and individual wheel brakes on the rear axel to steer because once the fronts are off the ground, the steering wheel is mostly useless. but if you steer too much you slow the wheels and shorten the pull

First puller in the class has the option to accept the pull, or turn it down and come back at the end for a second try in hopes of improving the distance he pulls. But only the first puller in the class is given that option.

At the beginning the weight on the trailer they are pulling is at the rear and start sliding forward as they go down the track. It gets progressively and progressively harder for the tractor to keep moving the sled. The faster you can get moving and maintained that the further you will go before you get bogged down to a stop.

Ive been around truck and tractor pulling my entire life because my dad used to compete in them. The sport is very simple. The sled that they are pulling has a weightbox that moves forward as they go down the track and puts pressure on the pan and digs it further into the ground. And whoever pulls the sled the farthest wins. They can change the weight and settings depending on the class. There are different leauges of truck/tractor pulling too. I live in Ohio so one of the big leagues here is the OSTPA (Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association) and the NTPA (National Tractor Pullers Association) which have events all over the country. Then we also have what we call Brush Pulls which are more of a local community thing and is what my dad competed in. My dad used to run a 1978 Ford F250 in the Altered gas class and did very well. The classes for trucks and tractors range from Street legal or Farmstock all the way up to Supermodified and Unlimited classes. Which can get very expensive especially if you break something😂. We actually just had the final pull of the year in my area a few days ago. I hope this helps a little bit and answers some of your questions

As for sponsor money, I guess it's hard to make massive money but the Fox team from Denmark was sponsored by Lego back in the day.
Personally, I think the wildest vehicles they drive are those powered by 4 gas turbines, but you also will sometimes see builds like 5 V8s, triple V12s or a single 42 cylinder radial engine.

@@ExploringTheSmoke He's close, these are diesels.... black smoke is overfueled hot, white smoke is usually overfueled cold (meaning basically a percentage of raw fuel). Since these are heavily boosted engine they run draft tubes, that's what you're usually seeing stuff pour or blow out of underneath the chassis as the tremendous combustion pressure gets past the rings (some is normal, a lot is usually an indication of internal damage) and pressurizes the inside of the engine. Those tubes are where that pressure is relieved, so if you see one suddenly start blowing quarts of black oil on the ground, someone's cracked or holed a piston.
A lot of times though these engines will fail catastrophically rather than gracefully... there's a lot of footage of charge pipes blowing apart, turbochargers switching from internal to external mode (i.e. leaving the vehicle one piece at a time), and blocks cracking above the mains so the upper half just pops out of the bay and flops onto the dirt like a dead fish.

I had a friend that campaigned a four engine pulling tractor back in the late 1990s/early 2000s. In every off-season, I would build him four identical Big Block Chevy V8 engines. Occasionally he would have a failure, as in all motorsports, but most of the time, the engines lasted the season. He only gave it up due to his Parkinson's disease becoming bad enough that he couldn't hide it, with officials not wanting to be liable for anything that might have gone wrong with him at the wheel.
About the strangest puller I've ever seen was a jet powered tractor that relied purely on the thrust, rather than have an engine(or engines) providing power to the two enormous rear wheels.

@@ExploringTheSmoke I had really high hopes when I saw the tractor, as I had previously seen the jet dragsters do their thing, but it was an older designed jet engine with no afterburner, so it was a bit limited in what was possible. The guy always finished around the middle of the pack, so the setup had a great level of consistency, which let the guy attract enough sponsors and winnings to basically compete and have fun for free. Oh, there are other classes of pullers, also. Some are just like gutted 4x4s and such, but all provide an entertaining watch. Such pulls are often piggybacked onto Monstertruck shows, as well.

did pick williams and i'm thinking of finishing the first season and recording the second one for a series. Just need to sort out a few things. making sure Sony vegas still works and remembering how to use it ^^*
Slight update for the first season. my second driver. Who i found out mid season had the worst overall on the f1 grid where f2 drivers had better stats than him. Put his williams into the wall twice in one weekend.
He killed 2 entire power units which have ers the engine and gearbox.
with 11 races in the season left.
in f1 each team is limited to 3 power units per car. if you go over that limit you have to take grid penalties for new parts and Pay out the rear to get new ones.
      All in the millions.
      5 mil for an engine
      2.5 mil for ERS
      1 mil for gearboxes.
He has had at least 5 gearboxes 3 new engines and god knows how many ERS replacements. Not including parts that wear over time. Williams runs off a low budget as they don't have much money with how theyve not been at the front for years. XD
Real struggle when one driver has put me in - money. I can't develop the car or build replacement parts. Because even car components have wear on them. like the underfloor, if you use it a certain number of races it can fail inspection and you have to replace with new. it's a rather realistic take on it and fun. But i'm regretting not realising he was that bad untill it was mid season XD
