Actually you were right that the intakes of the F4 were the inspiration for the 1985 V-Max.
Look on RUclips for the development of the first V-Max and you’ll see the designer make that exact reference

Jeff, I always look forward to your videos, thanks. I enjoy U sharing snippets from your military past. As to the future of the VMAX I think we have now seen it,,for the first time ever YAMA has brought to the USA the 2022 MT-10 SP,,, in greatly upgraded form too. Today it is hard for me to get a hard ## for a motorcycle other than the MAX but this SP model is mind blowing, at least in my book. I hope you check it out.! :) The new Goldie has been announce too and all but the base models now have auto trans., basically a car with 2 wheels. In short I think YAMA has just told us MT-10 SP IS the new VMAX,,what think you Master Jeff?

Thanks Jay. The MT line doesn’t do anything for me. I would like to see more V4 offerings…not just from Yamaha, but all the others. I like power cruisers. Maybe someday they will return.

Jeff, I think YAMA will find a new home for the 1700 V-4, in a Touring machine.
