Very enjoyable to watch and extremely satisfying once complete, albeit not as pretty as you would like but It's good to see someone who likes to take pride in their work. I'm exactly the same. . my father used to say to me "if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing well", god rest his soul. I'm enjoying your videos 👍
I have done that same job, its so hard. I did it with a stick welder. total nightmare. So I have total respect for your welds. Until you have done this inside crossmember you will never know the joy a welding ark 2 inchess from your face. HAHAHA!
Don’t know if it’s any use to you but welding with gas is much easier rather gas less. Some welders are made to be converted as an option. Got to say it was the best thing that I did with my welder was change it over to gas, what I call proper MIG (Mixed Inert Gas) as the name suggests. Good luck with your projects it’s great to watch them coming along. Looking forward to seeing your Regal take shape.
This one can do both, it's why I picked it. Probkem with MIG is I do most of my work outside and where I live its generally windy. Otherwise I would definitely use MIG.
Welding looks fine for a flux core welder. Mine is from Lidl and it's not as easy as it looks. Stick welder is easier but not really suitable for light sheet steel.
On good metal I found its really nice, you have to go slower than mig but can get a rewarding result. But I think there's too much corrosion in that cross member.
Well worth the practice though the welds are really good and cheap. I find you have to stay well close burns the shroud up in no time but they are cheap too. And with the modern "Autodarkness" Visor helmets. I was getting there.
They are lovely to drive. Rear arches rot but replacement panels are easy to get. They are going up in price now too it seems but still bargains to be had. You have to watch the heads on the diesels too.
It's a repair not a resto mate nowt wrong with the welding for an Mot. Yeah hot metal dripping on you is not fun. I use a can of compressed air to cool the welds down when am using no gas.👍
I'm just about to do the same job... living the Welsh bongo rusty crossmember dream!
Are you replacing the whole lot or patching like I've done?
No just mot patches
Good luck 👍
Great vid. Don't be so harsh on your welding. At least your working on it yourself and helping us in the process! Keep it up!
Cheers dude 👍
Good job on the Weldin it up Bud..You caught it in time so it will last for another 25 years or so...great video.
Cheers Thomas, a few patches to do on the sills when I can get it over a pit.
The joys of working outside you be pinching my alfresco garage soon lol good result and as long as it passes the mot it’s perfect
Dont you just love rushing to pack your tools away when it rains LOL

It was not a pleasant job, on the drive in Welsh weather. Using stick would have added to that fun 😆

As always buddy, great fun to watch. Have to say though, after years of doing the same, I now take mine to a garage!! ☺☺
Welding wasn't bad fella at least your having a go you will only get better great job I reckon 👍👍👍
Cheers dude
Yup mine also have same hole issues on same spot. Wonder why?
I think water manages to pool in the, it gets hit from all angles where it is.
Nice to see you working on your own stuff after all the help for others , what thanks do you get a power cut
The power cut was a local sub station catching fire, my wife phoned me and said "What have you done this time?!" 😲🤣
@@StevesMachines Yeah your Missus is a star

They are great welders, I don't think I would have done any better with a MIG tho, that cross member is pretty ripe.
Ive got one of those no gas welders and its really tricky to get a nice weld

I always wanted one of these, the usual Mazda/Ford rust problems put me off..

@@StevesMachines I want something bigger now with a toilet and shower in for when I go doing videos and photo's for the race team I'm part of...
I bought a band File gets you into where the angle grinder cannot.reach.
I used to have one of those years ago, probably a good shout to replace that 👍

I know but I hate it when it's not pretty 🤣
@@StevesMachines Behind the bumper no one will see it lol.😂👍
I can always lend you a pair of glasses to be able to see what you're welding...I would suggest don't give up your day job
It certainly wasn't my best welding!
