What is the best torch gas to use? Tried to help out a friend but couldn't get the aluminum hot enough to melt the brazen rod. Was using a propane torch.

use map gas it 300 to 400 degrees hotter than propane and is the same size and screw on thread as a propane bottle.

You could try another way that isn’t destructive. Don’t use zinc to fix it(that’s the fix you’re doing) it melts at 420C. aluminum melts at 660C. Use a tin lead alloy with a melting point of 177C. Don’t use the torch so close to heat it up with the Sn-Pb solder, that way you don’t destroy the aluminum cooling blades.

You should use an aluminum welding stick rather than standard solder

Can I use JB weld to seal that leak or can I just crimp the hole really tight to stop water from leak?Thank you.

Dont use jb weld! If it fails then youll never be able to aluminum weld it after epoxy contamination.

You can, gasket maker too can do the job. I prefer gasket maker for easy peeling

JB Weld will fail. I tried it on my radiator. And it lasted about a month or so and then failed while out on a trail.
