Thanks, TB! I was itching for a good space battle game and despairing about how there are barely any space games on the market these days, but then you showed me this existed. Your WTF series is a godsend to gamers everywhere.
@AshWattBoy Broadside = the flank of the ship. "Firing a full broadside" is firing all of your guns at once in one direction, which is only possible if your flank is facing the target.
The Homeworld series and Sins of a Solar Empire are some great space RTS's. Homeworld is what you might call 'a bit old' but Sins of a Solar Empire is very much what you see here only on a much bigger scale, with you controlling the entire fleet.
Was about to say it reminded me a little of Subspace ... then I saw that the devs had abandoned it and it'll last only until servers go offline ... so now it reminds me a LOT of Subspace!
@crustworthy1 Eve and stellar impact are similar in the following things, space ships with laser guns, gun tracking speeds, inertia on turning. These are core elements in eve pvp, small ships get in close to out track larger guns. Another core element is that the same space ship can do many different things depending on loadouts, so you dont know exactly how to counter a ship just based on what it looks like. Now, there are many other elements that DONT match.
@eagleandy1 Same problem here. I registered and then got the same problem. So I've gone onto the 'DLC' tab and downloaded it from the Desura website. However it does require you to download Desura first if you don't already have it on your computer. It only needs 2.4-ish MB of space so it's not exactly a big program to download.
Can you actually steer the ships with the keyboard? In the keybinds are "LEFT" and "RIGHT", but they don't work in my game. I can only steer by right-clicking in space.
@crustworthy1 I never said Eve was the only to have these features. But eve is certainly the most prominent of these to feature them all, hence the one to get inspiration from. Inertian on turning, again, same argument as above. Ships customization, see below. If each role of a ship had a different hull type then it would be correct. However, since each ship can do(atleast in eve, havent tried stellar) hugely different roles, you cant judge it by looking at it. Subtle, but huge difference.
@IrkenRob It's completely different, the complex movement controls and persistance make it a very different experience. Also it's free while starcraft isn't :P
this looks incredibly similar to the space battles in Star Wars: Empire at War. that's an RTS though, but the battlefields are set up very similar. like killer asteroids and dodging shots, cloaking nebula's, warping in units, etc. despite that, looks like a great game, and i loved the way it was set up in SW:EaW, so id buy this probably
I didn't enter your contest TB, but I posted a nice comment on this games trailer anyway. Sometimes random unrewarded acts of kindness are the best ones.
@dbouya I had trouble with this too. It seems that what you have to do, is create the account, then immediately check your email for the account creation email. From there, they provide you a download link to the software, as well as a link that activates your account. If you try to login without clicking that activation link, it will simply give you an error and ask you to request a new password. If you try to request a new password, but have not activated the account, the process repeats.
@MalevolentVergil It's got spaceships sure but Homeworlds whole thing was being able to move in three dimensions. Kinda misleading to compare this completely 2d game to it.
I would liek to know what kind of investment we are talking about before buying it.. my budget is small and with games coming out and I invest quite a bit in LoL it would be nice to know what kind of cash investment this needs.
@AshWattBoy Thing is, ships like this can only fire the majority of there guns on both sides of the ship (Rather one side or the other) When he says "Fire a full broadside" it means he has all guns pointed at one side of the ship giving him maximum firepower. Noticed does green/red lines? Those represent where each gun is aiming and when they are ready for fire. Noticed when theirs a ship on his left or right side theirs a ton of them? Well there you go.

Well, this game definitely looks very interesting... Looks like a strategic space combat game I can get into. I'll have to check it out some time.
@ThaMythbuster when I used to play, it only took a matter of hours to get to level 20, sooner if you've already made a couple of characters and want to speed run through it all. I haven't played Stellar Impact yet, but from the impression I got. The amount of content between the f2p WoW and the f2p Stellar Impact is about the same. Think of it as a demo or trial of those games. Considering they're both online games, they have to limit how far you can progress.
TB plays a Frigate as well!? YAY! But seriously, I downloaded this to play it before the comment portion of the 580 contest from yesterday's Mailbox...really fun game. I'm enjoying it.
This kinda reminds me of a free game I used to play that was called Mac Trek (if I remember correctly). It was (obviously) based on Star Trek, and I always used the smallest ship which had the weakest shield and hull but could go up to warp 12. Hit and run FTW! XD
The game is not dead. There's still a small, close-knit community playing pretty much every day (most stuff happens the weekend), and the developers are continously pushing out new content and balance patches. Just make sure to drop into the teamspeak server, playing with a team is so much better!
This game is awesome. One of the best indie games I've EVER played. The community is growing, so the word is slowly getting out. Even at the non-sale price of $10 this game is worth it. I would have paid $20+ easily - that's how good it is.
2024 RIP my friend. As of Today game has been delisted from steam and game appears to be gone. I thought i would post how these old games are rated today, 6 years after his passing. Did they do better? Did they die?
Amazing game, if it haven't been for WTF i would of not known of this gem. Funny thing is that it kind of reminds me of "The Day of Sagittarius" from the anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ". It also bears resemblance to the concept of battles in "Banner of the Stars" anime. So all in all, I'm a owner of a spaceship now, watch out for a broadside from Ctrl in-game. Indie developers are in my opinion the new Shareware people, that i remember from the early the 90's.
@gringo533 @gringo533 That's an interesting thought, my good friend! Because it was about.. good knows how many years when I actually played the game. Sure, the game in itself doesn't look like it, but the design of the starships reminded me of Homeworld 2. So there you go! Hope you understand it now.
@racerxonclar2 Please do remember that their servers are basically blown up by the amount of people joining in. Might I suggest you check their forums? They communicate a lot about the game with the community
This actually looks like a good game. It's ashame they have lag problems. I have played a Custom Game version of it on Starcraft 2 which I have always liked but I have never realised it was an actual game till I watched this. It's also ashame it isn't fully free-to-play. Not sure to what extent you have to play fully.
I do hope you drop back in the game, TB! If not for a video, even just playing with you again would be awesome. The game got improved quite a bit. And i'm sure it's possible now to have a balanced game organized ^^ I have a handful of pretty crappy videos about the current state of the game, if you are interested. In addition, i'm sure you would love the newest ship.. it's been called by us players the troll ship for a reason ^^
Tried it out yesterday, must say i'm really impressed by the gameplay. Sadly it was totaly unplayable for me. I kept rubberbanding all over the place and the abilities went of semingly at random. But I'll have another look at it tonight.
The thing is, I keep hearing people calling the game and not being able to play it, yet during the past two weeks I've been nearly every day on playing for 2-8h. At worst you have to wait a bit sometimes to get the game but you do get to play. Also it helps if you are on the TS server :)
This game is very good. I enjoy naval-style engagements and DOTA makes an enjoyable scenario. Paid £8.99 and it's worth it. Also.. community is surprisingly helpful and everyone seems to be able to talk, unlike some communities...
9 years later, the lag still hasn't been fixed...
Thanks, TB! I was itching for a good space battle game and despairing about how there are barely any space games on the market these days, but then you showed me this existed. Your WTF series is a godsend to gamers everywhere.
Its always so cool when I come to youtube to check out a review and there is a WTF totalBiscuit review. Love them, keep up the sweet work!
@AshWattBoy Broadside = the flank of the ship. "Firing a full broadside" is firing all of your guns at once in one direction, which is only possible if your flank is facing the target.
@Ulti2k
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. It's the term used for DotA, LoL, HoN, MNC etc etc
@Syndiicatee Depends what quality it would be, 1080p raw would be around 40 gigs, compressed it would be around 100-250mb.
The Homeworld series and Sins of a Solar Empire are some great space RTS's. Homeworld is what you might call 'a bit old' but Sins of a Solar Empire is very much what you see here only on a much bigger scale, with you controlling the entire fleet.
Hey look it's BattleFleet Gothic Armada!
Was about to say it reminded me a little of Subspace ... then I saw that the devs had abandoned it and it'll last only until servers go offline ... so now it reminds me a LOT of Subspace!

I love the art style of this game. Much awesomer than most of the similar games.
@Ulti2k
a quick wikipedia search tells us: Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, a term coined by Riot Games, for the Dota genre.
@gamerasanc Not really. The gameplay focuses are completely different.
I would like to see more of these videos from you :) like a feature length like you did with SPAZ
@Drendle87 ad block is your friend, available for firefox and chrome.
You can try the following games: Sins of the Solar Empire (4X), Sword of the Stars (4X), Homeworld I & II (RTS), Homeworld: Cataclysm (RTS).
I was already sold on this game from the trailer that TB told us to leave a nice comment on. I can't wait to see TB's take on it.
Can you actually steer the ships with the keyboard? In the keybinds are "LEFT" and "RIGHT", but they don't work in my game. I can only steer by right-clicking in space.

Pretty awesome. Here's to hoping we get a similar game for the iPad. The gameplay seems perfect for a touchscreen.
@IrkenRob It's completely different, the complex movement controls and persistance make it a very different experience. Also it's free while starcraft isn't :P
I miss this game, I used to fly the corvette all the damn time. Backcapping and assassinating people with the torpedos.
@Orion688 Not really, think of it as you get a free demo up to a certain point, then you pay $13.37 to unlock the FULL game.
@gongal You don't have to buy it, it's free and the ship is now unlocked by getting mk5 on the ship of the same tonnage.
this looks incredibly similar to the space battles in Star Wars: Empire at War. that's an RTS though, but the battlefields are set up very similar. like killer asteroids and dodging shots, cloaking nebula's, warping in units, etc. despite that, looks like a great game, and i loved the way it was set up in SW:EaW, so id buy this probably
Could you maybe do some (complete) playthrough(s) of this?
@Will6753 He's from Denmark, it's roughly 1:15AM there. Do your research.
@FlippyWarbear It's a very nice Spaceballs reference you have there.
I thought this was the follow up to Stellar Frontier. It looks like this game and was such a fun game when I was younger.
@dledger1 Same problem, I think all of the TBscribers jumping on it at the mention of "Homeworld" like a swarm of piranha killed the site.
This actually looks ridiculously cool. Sort of reminds me to the SC2 StarBattle mod, which means i am definitely trying it out.
I didn't enter your contest TB, but I posted a nice comment on this games trailer anyway. Sometimes random unrewarded acts of kindness are the best ones.
@ClackingSpoons Its free for people who apply but you gotta buy it to rank up.
@Unreeld ludicrous is plaid if you look at it from the outside of the ship
@dbouya I had trouble with this too. It seems that what you have to do, is create the account, then immediately check your email for the account creation email. Thanks for doing a wtf of SI. I was really waiting for it :D
i only subscribed yesterday... I LOVE THIS GUY!! Great job loving the vids
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed.
@kstalt Well yeah, but level 20 is something else than level 1 I think? Although I have no idea how many levels WoW has and how fast you level up...
Looks like a really pimped out version of Star Battle. I love how almost everything you can shoot is a skills shot.
@bftjosh no tb put the torrent on there incase the website exploded it did so now im doing the torrent its free for a while anyway
@MalevolentVergil It's got spaceships sure but Homeworlds whole thing was being able to move in three dimensions. Kinda misleading to compare this completely 2d game to it.

Available from the Indie Jam Bundle on BundleStars, but that ends in 3 days.

Hope it will be available on steam eventually, I sadly doubt that there will be box edition. Anyway looks really good, will try it for sure.
@oldmanwithHemroids4 there is a torrent link in the description
@bftjosh also the torrent link was provided by TB himself,i doubt it would be an illegal one?? derp
@SHM828 ofc it is starcraft is like 1000 games in 1 this is one game specialized in this
Maybe some music, didn't hear any and didn't hear TB really mention it so that's another thing they could work on
2024 RIP my friend.
As of Today game has been delisted from steam and game appears to be gone.
I thought i would post how these old games are rated today, 6 years after his passing. Did they do better? Did they die?
this game is on steam for $12 with all DLC. Everyone buy and play it
I've been reading Honor Harrington books and now I really want to try this game!
Amazing game, if it haven't been for WTF i would of not known of this gem. Funny thing is that it kind of reminds me of "The Day of Sagittarius" from the anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ". I concede. Empire at War was definitely not a MOBA. I guess I was just referring to the presentation overall. The UI, etc.
But yes, you are right =)
@grenadier42 Well, you understand wrongly. It's a free DEMO, and then you can use a one time fee to buy the game
@ThaMythbuster Wow is free till level 20 now,or so I've heard.
@ninjovich well seing how there is a full version for $13.37 also?
I think it shows alot of promise. Does anyone know what that song is right at the end. Just asking? Sounded cool.
@gringo533 @gringo533 That's an interesting thought, my good friend! Because it was about.. good knows how many years when I actually played the game. Sure, the game in itself doesn't look like it, but the design of the starships reminded me of Homeworld 2. So there you go! Hope you understand it now.
No, this game is amazing and is set to release soon on Steam. It has returned to beta since this video and major fixes have been done.
Please show more of this game... it's really fun to watch... but I'm not really up to playing cause I think I'll suck ass.
@racerxonclar2 Please do remember that their servers are basically blown up by the amount of people joining in. Might I suggest you check their forums? They communicate a lot about the game with the community
That's what I thought too. Once you get used to the learning curve though, it's a really good game I think.
Is anyone else getting a Navyfield-in-Space vibe from this? I'm IN LOVE!
It is now a fully released game on Steam, cheap too! 10 Euros, 12 with DLC's
TotalHalibut is so useful. There are so many indie games on Steam but I hesitate buying without such in-depth videos.
This actually looks like a good game. It's ashame they have lag problems. I have played a Custom Game version of it on Starcraft 2 which I have always liked but I have never realised it was an actual game till I watched this. It's also ashame it isn't fully free-to-play. Pretty sweet game. Hopefully they can improve their netcode, cause sometimes it's too much.
TB is REALLY close to 500, 000 subs!
@Will6753 Ever heard of multiple time zones?
lol you should totally upload vids at that time with a bedtime story every day!
the animation and graphics quality in this game are pretty amazing
and the gameplay looks fun :)
i might even replace this for legue of legends
no am just realy mad from that being slow and the preorder of orcs must die is not working as it is released today ahead of time...
@CSargeP Theme?
I do hope you drop back in the game, TB! If not for a video, even just playing with you again would be awesome. The game got improved quite a bit. And i'm sure it's possible now to have a balanced game organized ^^
I have a handful of pretty crappy videos about the current state of the game, if you are interested. In addition, i'm sure you would love the newest ship.. it's been called by us players the troll ship for a reason ^^
Empire at War is a top-down RTS space game.
Star Battle is a "space MOBA", so to speak. Just like this.
I don' mind the ad in the beginning...but does it have to be the same one over and over?
His old intro is so awesome :O
BTW this game costs 3 euro with full DLC RIGHT NOW
Tried it out yesterday, must say i'm really impressed by the gameplay. Sadly it was totaly unplayable for me. I kept rubberbanding all over the place and the abilities went of semingly at random.
But I'll have another look at it tonight.
@BorisNaruto2 well i havent played this game but i guess the corvet will be very fast and have high manuvaring cause the are very light vessals.
@IAmSomeoneOrOther just to be sure, i even broke out the calculator, 19.99 - 33% is 13.3933, the price I see
The thing is, I keep hearing people calling the game and not being able to play it, yet during the past two weeks I've been nearly every day on playing for 2-8h. At worst you have to wait a bit sometimes to get the game but you do get to play. Also it helps if you are on the TS server :)
Do you HAVE to pay for the ship packs or is it Like LoL where more are unlocked as you spend points?
@PizzaAssassin26 No, he did not. He left a message.
Ok, this video gave me a much better idea of the game compared to what the developers have released. Now I really want to try this game.
This game is on sale for $2.99 on steam right now..(This includes all the current DLCs)
Unfortunately, the servers arent TB proof. Can barely play at the moment. :/ However beeing an assasin is fun!
I made an account but the game download is down at the moment. This game looks AWESOME.
@ClackingSpoons It's in case the site dies from the increased traffic.
This game is very good. I enjoy naval-style engagements and DOTA makes an enjoyable scenario. Paid £8.99 and it's worth it.
Also.. community is surprisingly helpful and everyone seems to be able to talk, unlike some communities...
@FlippyWarbear None of those speeds are plaid speed either.
So.. Space Battle from SC2?
