Re7 is basically what a horror game should be. Limited vision, not knowing if you have enough gear for the next section, running into enemies unexpectedly. Its just brilliant
It also forces you to pick your battles, fight smart and scour every room and nook and cranny for every last bullet and herb.

Village was kinda disappointing in comparison since people found 7 too scary >_>
RE7 is wild af. I went through severe depression after my dad passed away and I jumped head first into that game in January 2017. I did multiple playthroughs, beat it on madhouse and unlocked everything. 8 was fantastic as well but different. I like most re’s

RE Village gave me such a weird feeling because i wasn't scared in the slightest, and then they throw the terrifying baby at me. It gets me spooked and excited, but then its back to action-boy and less scared-boy the rest of the game.
Yeah I definitely agree. Village has an interesting tone to it with that MASSIVE spike at House Beneviento
Until you play it's dlc with the puppets, that shit got me more scared then the baby
Bro 100% agree, I was like “alright well it’s definitely a thriller not a horror” then bam that fuckin fetus, I’ve never screamed like that or said fuck so many times since probably outlast or the first time you deal with a licker in the OG RE2 💀 especially when you’re waiting on the fuckin elevator
@@nicolae-alexandruluca7853 Yeah, that DLC was excellent
That part is great for the first time. (i'm playing RE since the first one on the PS1, and for the first time i was scared.) That being said the same part is the worse from the replayability factor.
That baby creature from resident evil village has given me nightmares for days

Haven’t made it this far yet. I still can’t play past “Run” 😂
Agreed, I can't sleep on the first night when I imagine his face.
Village is a hard one to rank. It is scary at times, and has the single scariest section in any RE title, ever, but because the game is such a grab bag of ideas, playing almost like an RE Greatest Hits, it also gets goofy and silly at times too, so the scariness levels are all over the place.
And yeah, obviously 7 was going to be in first.
Completely agree 💯
On one hand, you fight a power rangers robot wars battle against a cocky german magneto in a giant mech who trash talks you, and on the other hand, you have to go through a haunted mansion that slowly builds up to a hallucination of a giant fetus that cries and laughs in a dark, red lit hallway, chasing you.
@@thesnatcher3616 Yep, I understand some calling that tonal inconsistency, and they aren't wrong. My impression was that it was designed as Resident Evil greatest hits collection, with the wildly different sections recalling different eras of the franchise, so I kind of interpreted it as a bit of a victory lap for the franchise, while also continuing 7's direction of telling a story with more personal stakes. I personally identify more with a protagonist fighting to save his wife and daughter more than I do a protagonist fighting to stop a terrorist threat (same reason I preferred Claire's section in RE2 remake).
@@crazydud3380 I agree. I thought it was great. I love me some variety and I think the game did a good job hinting at the type of experiences you'll receive with each section with the personality of each lord in the beggining. Heisenberg is loud and over the top. Dimetrscu is sophisticated yet haughty. Moreau is pathetic and Donna says nothing yet her doll doesn't shut up(this inconsistency perhaps hinting that something is just off about her). It knew what game it wanted to be from the beggining I feel. The marketing just seems to have misled people. And let's face it, Resident Evil always had odd tonal shifts in it's games. You are in an antique and archaic police station one moment, and the next you'll be in a super high tech bio lab.
@@thesnatcher3616 Exactly. It's always been that way. Even 7, eventually you get Mia's flashback VHS, and from that point, the game switches into a more action-oriented experience.
I completed RE7 in VR.... The scariest thing I've experienced in my life. Had to stop in certain parts, watch a RUclips video to see what happened next and then go back to the headset lol
The Beneviento house was the scariest moment of all franchise in my opinion

@@TheDragon97king Awesome to hear. RE7 is easily one of my favorite RE games
RE1 Remake would have been scarier if it had a stalker enemy, but I still think it's the scariest one in the series. I even think it might be the best Resident Evil game overall.
I’ve played it many times and I’m still always on edge when I play it. Totally agree
Yup, re1make is my favorite video game ever. Perfect halloween night type game.. and they did have forrest as a stalker but he was behind certain unlocks to get and honestly wasn't fun. The game has my favorite difficulties in real survival mode though
fixed Cam resident evil is not scary at all
Easily the scariest. I know a lot of people aren't too fond of static camera angles, tank controls, and finite resources anymore, but the fixed cinematic camera angles, slow deliberate movements, and knowing that you really can screw yourself by using too many resources really do make for tension that the newer ones just can't do anymore. Fighting waves of enemies with enough firepower to conquer a small country knowing each enemy is dropping more resources than you spent to kill them is fun and can be scary, but nothing tops going into a new room with a handgun and only three bullets left, and hearing a zombie moaning out of sight or god-forbid a sound you've never heard before.
Re 4 remake and Re 2 Remake is way better overall. Youre literally blinded by nostalgia.
Revelations 1 was not scary. It had cartoonish graphics. Rev 2 was scary.. especially the fog part. 7 and 8 were scary. Remake 2 definitely scary. Re4 remake is kinda scary.
None of the RE games scared me except Rev1
How the fuck is village scary
@@RobertEdwinHouse9 how is it not?? the beginning part with the lycans swarming you. then the big guy with the hammer runs up on you and you think its over. when Heisenberg drops you down that tunnel chained up and you hear the lycans in the background and dont know what is going to happen. then you have that saw that's trying to kill you and dont know what to do at first. Then the creep baby, the creepy dolls. The sisters that can randomly spawn on you. The creepy dolls that follow you when you arent looking at them.

When I started the video I knew that RE7 had to at least be in the top 3, I was glad to see you gave it the correct spot at number 1 lol. I do have other favorite RE games over RE7, but I absolutely love the game and I think it easily takes the cake as the scariest RE game. The atmosphere is incredibly oppressive and trekking through the dilapidated mansion in first person is absolutely nerve wrecking every time I play it. The sound design is perfect.
My top 5 scariest RE games are:
1. RE7
2. RE2 Remake
3. RE1 Remake
4. RE4 Remake and Original (equally scary in different ways for me)
5. RE2 original
Couldn't agree more 💯RE7 is certainly the scariest in the franchise and even though I, like you, don't consider that one my favorite in the series, it's still an excellent game.
Imho RE4 (both the original and the remake) is not a quiet kind of scary like classic RE games, but a loud and hectic type of scary. Players constantly get ganked by a mob of parasite-infested-cultists, in which they need to pay attention to their positioning and decide which gun is best used for the moment (while paying attention to the amount of ammos in the inventory).
Everyone gangster until i tell people that resident evil 3 remake gave me one of the most monumental jumpscares (i didn't jump though i jolted backwards hard)
Bloody Nemesis (i knew he was around a corner ) and he came round the corner so bloody fast and attacked me it's like he was already in my face and attacked me while charging round the corner and made me ABSOLUTELY SURPRISED 😂😂
😂 He can definitely surprise you with his speed!
I also got scared, but it was just the zombies about 4 different times
Agree with your top 2. I feel they are basically tied.
Yeah, they definitely belong there on the list 💯
I don't think anyone would ever question RE7 as the scariest game.
It’s not even close
re7 is a joke compared to outlast
I don't think it was scary at all. 2 and 3 remake on the other hand gave me panic attacks. I play with headphones on for all three. I feel like 7 was so ridiculously stupid to be scary and not Resident evil. Hillbillies...!? come on
RE7 is definitly the scariest of them all, but the Beneviento house in Village is easily the scariest section in the series, and one of the most soiled pants inducing sections in video games history. That fucking baby still haunt my dreams to this day 🥲🥶
Yes, the baby was the worst I. I swear I was gonna have a panic attack every time I played that part of the game and I'd best the game 4 times.
Reading this comment, now I can hear that music in my head from when you first see it. That is truly an unforgettable Resident Evil moment.
The only thing I hated in re7 was the boat with Mia and the end boss could’ve been better also the enemy variety should’ve been more and Lucas part should been better but I still loved it.
Literally the only issues I had with the game as well. Otherwise, it's a heck of a good game
Man I thought I was the only who thought the game dropped off as soon as you get to the ship. That’s literally the only part of the game I can’t stand.
I had so much fun playing RE7. I bought it at Walmart on its release date about six minutes after midnight, went right home, popped it in, and I'm pretty sure I stayed up until around 6 in the morning playing that game. It was truly unrelenting; they really pulled out all the stops with RE7 and I just couldn't put it down. Truly a brilliant and scary game that will stick in my mind forever.
The Regenerators from RE4 gave me nightmares when I first played it..
“Resident Evil Village” was the first “Resident Evil” game I played. The baby in House Beneviento really terrified me.

i swear to god i cannot stay in a room with the goddamn grandmother from RE7, shes just terrifying even though i know she wont do anything. just having her in the corner of the room, or in the hallway chilling as i pass by is just so unsettling. even more than having the mom or the dad roaming
Resident evil 4 og still has tank controls, in fact, they used tank conrrols up until 5 or 6. Move analog stick up to go forward, down to move backwards, left or right to turn in that direction. They used these controls up until 5 and 6.
That's correct. They stopped the tank controls at 6
I agree with this list, especially for #1. Just rewatching clips of RE7 has me stressed. The only change i would make is RE2 remake personally for me was more scary than RE1 remake but not by much. I think it's something about not wanting to be punched.

@@dashthefastit is
None of them are scary. Beneviento house was good, but it only lasted few minutes. Village with sexy vampires and well lit areas was a good take, but solely missed on it's purpose.
There will be a lot of games, but no one will make me jumpscare more than re 2 original (I was like 10 or 11 years old when I played and it traumatized me in some events). Re4 original too, the way the people attacked and flanked you was so stressful and horrific. Now that everything has evolved, the new games stress me more than scare. After the first dead space, it was hard to be amazed by a scary situation (I haven't played re7 and village, so I'll try both once I get some money.
I really think people sleep on how scary RE4 was the first time around, I think it's been replayed too many times and is too much in the cultural aether or whatever, I actually would place it third after 7 and REmake in terms of how scary it is. The amount of times you see discussion of RE4 devolve into "debating" whether it is an action game or a horror game is also really annoying
first encounter with the chainsaw man, the regenerators(which are the scariest enemy in the entire franchise and nothing really comes close imo), the garradors, solo Ashley section, going back to the village during the storm/first encounter with the wolves, Verdugo, it's only really parts of the island section that go off the rails, and even then there's still some creepy moments. And the atmosphere is really underrated
I definitely feel that the Revelations game should've been higher in the list, there is just something very special about those games.
The original resident evil 4 not only revolutionized the rest of the franchise, but also the gaming industry as a whole. Almost every 3rd person game we can think of wouldn't be the same without RE4. Resident evil 7 is a banger too, scary as fuq
What makes Biohazard is the most scariest of them all, it because of Eveline. Don't you forget, the Baker family was controlled by Eveline. I think Eveline is the most scariest and strongest creature among all RE franchise. For me, she not the creature but the demon.
RE8 House Beneviento section is scarier than all of the other games put together.
Pretty much 😂
If Village had the constant unsettling tension that the doll house segment presented throughout the entire game, I would tie it with 7. 7 however keeps that horror tension throughout the majority of the game
Agreed. 7 absolutely nailed the horror throughout the game
I played the lot before RE7 and it was a return to form in the horror department. It is to me the most frightening game. While there are plenty of cheap jumpscares, there is plenty of substantive qualities to the game that make it genuinely difficult to play at times during a first playthrough. The family and enemies are terrifying for one. Being stalked by Jack is the scariest thing in the entire franchise to me. First playthrough I was on edge even after killing Jack, being totally unsure that he was actually dead. Not to mention the atmosphere is far and away the scariest, though the Gothic and Victorian elements of RE1 and RE Village also make a great scene. Everything on the property is in complete disarray and completely filthy. Little things like that go a long way in showing the depravity of the family and how unpredictable they are, whereas in a game like RE1 and RE2 there is still some order in the surrounding environment.
I’ve never actually beaten a Resident Evil game, only played them for a couple hours at most. The other day I saw a sale going on and decided my first ever Resident Evil game that I will play to completion would be Resident Evil 7. I just beat Marguerite and I’m going to the wrecked ship. I think I’m going to die.
You're almost done!
@@funmylife9248 I just beat the game last night. I thought I was going straight from Marguerite to the wrecked ship. Needless to say I was pretty surprised by Lucas’s entire section.

I like how my first Resident Evil game i played was Re7 and I somehow completed it when I'm often scared of horror games...
Re7s dlcs where ny get backs at each of the bakers. Especially the punchy grandpa dlc
I agree no other game in the series has had as much consistent horror and unsettling atmosphere than 7. I will say 8 has the single scariest section in the series with House Beneviento, but sadly the horror peaks very early in the game and the rest of it just doesn’t really compare to that portion. Fun gameplay and good story developments but the horror is very inconsistent and felt like a theme park for different styles of it.
Damn I’m surprised this doesn’t have more views. Your commentary is great
Resident Evil Village is an amazing game. I don't know why it seems to be among the most disliked RE games.
The game is visually stunning. I don't mean the graphics here, i mean the surroundings e.g. the castle are beautiful. Art style is the closest word i can come up for it.
The only reason I can figure out why it's so disliked among RE fans is that some fans are very into the lore and the lore aspect is the weakest link of RE Village.
Village is definitely one of my favorites in the series. I appreciate what it brought to the table, but yeah, the lore and its links to the rest of the franchise aren't the strongest with this game
Because people keep comparing it to 4, i mean the similarities are undeniable but they are very surface level, gameplay wise its much more similar to 7, they also hate that the game has variety in its gameplay, (i thought it was one of its biggest strengths), people the game to be the same thing the entire time otherwise they say it has an identity crisis, they also made the mistake of hyping up lady d to the moon and they refuse to admit its their faults for hyping her to death
@@slaviclad9705 Preach!
Putting biohazard at number 1 was make or break for me regarding the list
I've been scrolling for 3 mins, and i haven't seen one comment that has a problem with re7 at the top
Village is my first look at resident evil and honestly it’s the most interested I’ve been in gaming for years. The baby scene is obviously scary but heisenbergs factory is a melting pot of jump scares and boss fights
RE7 at one makes so much sense! I may be biased because it’s my favorite but it delivered everywhere I needed it to, it deserves the spot it got!
Re2 remake is the scariest in my opinion. Mr X, The lickers, the one shot sewer monsters, the plant things, hell even just the normal zombies in the early game had me pausing for a glass of water
It's definitely up there!
The only game that scared me was re4, but that’s because I played it as a kid. I was so proud of myself for beating it and not chickening out
Good job!
RE7 had the scariest opening out of all of them. After you get past the initial dinner scene though the game lost most of its scare factor for me cause nothing else compared to it. I’d say RE3 nemesis OG was the most I’ve been scared throughout the game. Although I was a kid playing it, now I’m an adult so probably has a lot to do with it. Nice video!
Yeah, RE7's opening was freaky AF! I agree that the OG RE3 nailed the tension with those Nemesis moments.
Resident evil 1 scared me a lot the first time I played it and I played that one as an adult so it wins for me the directors cut is my favorite out of the og resident evils
Yeah, I was not expecting it to be THAT freaky. Then again, I was around 8 when I played the first one. I loved the director's cut and especially the remake
Great list. As long as RE2 remake was at 3 and Resident Evil GC Remake and RE7 were 1/2 (either order) I'd agree. Though, Code Veronica, back in the day, had some amazing lighting and scared the hell out of me.

I feel resident evil should split in to 3-4 "factions"
1: the classic RE horror formula
2: the newer FPS formula
3: the more cinematic duo formula like RE 5 and 6 (With less QTE tho)
4: personally i really liked the formula of Operation racoon city, and the new perspective of playing the Umbrella contractors was a cool twist and the characters were interesting
I’ve been a gigantic fan of everything horror since I was 7 years old, I’ve seen tons of scary shit, but I felt like throwing up within 10 minutes of playing re7. Something about the eerie atmosphere immediately made me so uneasy and it took me a year to finally pick it up and play it again. I had to play it in sections over a week because it kept giving me that feeling like I had to vomit, and the amount of times I got scared and shaky was unbelievable. Got me feeling like a kindergartener pissing his pants lol. But it’s definitely one of my favorite games I’ve ever played, it’s seriously a work of art.
I once beat Dead Aim in under 2 hours. I played it like 20 times and memorized the whole layout.
Rented it from blockbusters and beat it in 4 or 5 hours, single non-stop play session. I never bought it or went back to it but I enjoyed my time.

Awesome video. Re7 definitely deserves the top spot. You mentioned playing village in vr. Have you played Madison vr yet? Never have I felt close to that level of dread in any game.
Ah yes. One of the series on my “Top 10 Horror game series I want to play but never will play because I’m a horror wimp” list. It’s at the #1 spot just in front of the Silent Hill series. The Dead Space series was in 3rd…but I’ve played Dead Space 1 and started Dead Space 2 so I’ve removed it from my list.

There is more than a personal interpretation, there are also several types of fear. Anxiety, a fear of anticipation, which will be brought about by the staging and the rhythm. Stress, which will be brought on by the present situation and the need to act quickly and well. Both will be perceived as fear by our brain (accelerated heart rate, hyper focus). Some Resident Evil are more stressful than others, some more distressing, but as such, i consider the introduction of RE7 particularly balanced and successful (but unfortunately not the rest, in my opinion).
I'm French, so i hope i'm using the right terms and i doubt it's psychologically correct, but it will illustrate the idea I hope.
Re7 is the only RE I've played and i loved it. The ship part was pretty painful though
Yeah I totally agree that the ship part towards the end was easily the worst part
good to know that I began playing this series on the scariest game 👍
Re 7 is the first game that made me jump and throw my controller
It's properly a treat when youve been a fan of RE for just over 20 years now since the original Neme3is was my first game finished. In order since then - Zero (GC) , REmake (GC) , RE2 (GC 2nd time around) , RE4 classic (GC) , Code Veronica X (GC) , Revelations (x360) , RE5 gold (X360) , Revelations2 (X360) & RE6 (X360).
For me , altho REmake & 4 are horror standouts , the ones that really were set in stone were Zero , Veronica & Revelations for their ruthless item managements and the fact THAT puts you on edge. I also give myself a goldstar for loving the intertwined arcs thru 6.
The real winner here is the resident evil remastered considering it was first released 2002. Its graphics still holds up to now and the jumpscares is still one of the best survival horror considering its time. The only thing some of these titles have against it are the more realistic graphics like 7&8 and the other remakes.
I just gotta say though, one of the scariest encounter i had with RE franchise (idk if y'all agree) was the mimicry marcus of RE zero. Like i literally had a heart attack that after i got killed by it, i was stunned for like a minute before i continued playing. The BGM too while encountering it was just horrifying.
I never got scared by re7. Only re4, re2 and re1 remake

P.T is peak that broke horror limit and highly increased it becoming I would say scariest game for next few decades
Looking back, this list is perfect. There’s not a single slot I would change.
I feel 7 and 8 are like two sides to a coin when it comes to scariness. So with 7 the game is generally scary throughout with the exception for me being the part where you play Mia where it’s just not scary at all but still enjoyable gameplay. But then with 8 I love the gameplay with the entire game even though most of it isn’t really scary but the house Beneviento is definitely one of if not the scariest sequence in the entire series so far. Of course all this being just my opinion but I also want to say I’m surprised for a video being about the scariness in the RE series, the Beneviento sequence wasn’t even mentioned. But still a great video with great insight and I found your placement of the rankings to be generally on point.

RE7 was a great horror game and probably one of my favorite RE games of all time, first game I platinumed on the ps4 and played it start to end at least 14 times and beat it in every difficulty and many parts are accelerated heart rate and blood pressure inducing but the original RE2 will always be the scariest for me due to my childhood lmao.

But when you were playing it the first time, you didn't know what to expect. Yeah, you can say the last half of the game fell short, but they did such a great job at creating the atmosphere that it worked to keep tension throughout the first playthrough. Even the last half of the game, I was far more on edge about what was next because everything was so chaotic and unpredictable.
2 remake and 7 are the definition of horror games
💯
Nah, RE2 isnt scary at all
The scag dead monster from rev 1 gave me nightmare for months
YES! Definitely the best monster out of the Rev. series.
Re1 for sure definitely was horrified by the thought of being eaten alive by a zombie when I was a kid playing it on the GameCube. Played it again on the ps4 and I still got nerves from the aura the game gave out.
RE1 is still such a great game. Great to see it get some love
Since it's the same creator, I'd say that The Evil Within 1 belongs high on this list.
The Evil Within is more mysterious and psycho than scary
RER2 got the chance to be a masterpiece.
The first two chapters were absolutely pure horror, and the idea was a lot more original than the same zombie haunted mansion, or the same action oriented game in a semi-open world or a totally open world game like 4 or village.
RER2 was original, with a great frightening setting, a good plot (at least until the end of the second episode), it's a shame how they managed to ruin a game that could bring up some originality in the franchise, and had a very solid base by the first two episodes.
Alex Wesker was a great villain in the first half of the story, then she became Albert Wesker 2.0, and with that they basically got rid off the mistery and originality of that figure that was just like Big Brother, and you were like in an enormous panopticon. Her bossfight was a scarier but much easier version of Mendez boss fight in re4.
Which is the scariest? Rachael Ooze from Resident Evil Revelations or the giant baby fetus monster from Resident Evil Village? I can't decide which one is the scariest.
The Rachael ooze was HAUNTING...
im honestly surprise re village isnt higher... that meat baby is terrifying
Definitely has the scariest moment in all of RE
the dlc part of house Beneviento is IMO even worse, the mannequins were terrifying
Forest... in RE1 Remake
Take what made the Crimson Heads bad enough; & strap one of them, with enough explosives to blow the whole damn Mansion, add in the moaning & rattling of this Zombie's gear, & the 1 shot 1 boom, have that chase you throughout the Spencer Estate...
And you have 1 of the most tense, jump scare moments of all the Res Evils - because it became a matter of, how do you get rid of something you can't even shoot or fight back against!?
They need to make PSVR2 versions of re2 and 3 4&8 were so good in vr
YES THEY DO! Such an underrated comment
The Kid's Room section in RE7 is by far the scariest RE experience I've had
You can't beat psychological horror
I need to play RE7 on one day, to make my own opinion on it. I'm just not a fan of first person camera and it feels that alot of the horror comes from stalker enemies and running away. A lot of modern horror games just give you minimal defence and big monsteres chasing you with a chainsaw and one hit kills. But fear of death is not the only thing what really give you deep scares.
As someone who first knew about Resident Evil when RE 8 came out and then played all the other games (yes 👁️👄👁️) I could never find any « old » RE game scary because of the graphics and quality. That’s why I’m so waiting for the next remake. (Also I decided to play Resident Evil when it had a Dead By Daylight chapter because I was playing dbd before)
I havent played single Pc game except re4 and gta sa ..and i played these two back in 2020 after that my laptop died and i wasnt able to finish it ..but soon im gonna get my pc ..im gonna start with re4 then re2 remake then re3 remake then re7 then re8 and then re4 remake yayyy
Have fun with them!
You mean that you are going to get a new PC?
Remake 2 scared the sh*t out of me especially when Mr. X was chasing me.💀
Definitely the best moments in the game!
@@funmylife9248 I totally agree👍
I would say top 1 and 2 are Re 7 and Revelations 2. Then it get less scary for my experience. Village has only 1 scary part really. But I don't know.
and I thought Resident Evil 2 remake was scary but no I played Resident Evil 7 and changed my mind immediately.
The lickers and mr x are scary but re7 basement is way more 😂
I must strongly disagree with the Thumbnail - Lisa Trevor may not have been the worst thing to encounter; but she sure as hell wasn't going to be forgotten, long after playing the RE1 Remake
Also; she was a bych to beat in Umbrella Chronicles, in Wesker's Scenarios - I had time each & every single Grenade, just stop Lisa Trevor from beating me to death
It’s been 3 years and people still can’t pronounce Dimitrescu

Very nice list. Personally, I'd put the Revelations games and OG RE3 a little higher, and OG RE4 lower.
Thanks, and that's fair!
i think the only 2 games to do horror perfect are outlast and re7 but mainly the house part in re7 after that its not that scary i just wish they had jack more in the game as a roamer then being confined to one part of the house and him only roaming for the first hour or so of the game cause you never really need to run into him again after you first get the bird block thing in the bathroom so i think it wouldve been cool if he roamed a little more and jacks boss fight was later i think it wouldve been cool if instead you make it out the house go to maragrete then after you kill her you have to go and get the keycard and for one of the keycards you would have to fight jack and have it where he can roam the yard and the old house and even the basement
i think re 2 remake mad me shit my pants
😂🔥🔥🔥
RE7 Should Be #1
It is #1 if you watched it all the way to the end 😂😂
I wanna cry cuz im a baby and my first RE was 7 😭
I don’t feel like RE7 should be number one (top 3 perhaps) but RE1 remake or RE2 remake should be in that top spot. RE7 was more frustrating to me than scary. I feel like the enemies in that game are goofy.
