    Thanks for all the great info I need it!!!! I started playing sax in elementary school and continued thru high school. I stopped playing for about 30 years then ak (after kids and military housing), I picked it up again. Wow did I miss playing, so I am having to learn all over again now that my kids are grown and I have grandchildren.

    I play the trumpet and I been watching your videos and that has inspired me to learn the alto sax and I recently bought one but some one told me that playing the sax will damage my em brochure, should I start training or should I sell it and forget about it?

    • @DonnaSchwartz

      It will not damage your embouchure. Develop a solid foundation for both and you will be fine. Join my email list and be the first to know when I release my Get a Killer Saxophone Tone course in the near future...

    You say that if your hands are too small, start on the clarinet, but why not start on the soprano sax?

    • @DonnaSchwartz
      @DonnaSchwartz  8 лет назад +1

      Good question. As a general rule, the smaller the instrument, the harder it is to play. (I'm not talking about flute or clarinet.) For example, you don't start on Piccolo because it takes a tremendous amount of breath support and embouchure control. You don't start someone on a Piccolo Trumpet for the exact same reasons. You also don't start someone on a Soprano Sax for the same reasons AND because there are more intonation issues to deal with.
      For saxes, It's best to start on either Alto or Tenor (again, depending upon hand size and neck comfort). After the breath support, embouchure and a good sens of pitch is developed, then one can double on the Soprano Sax.

      Thanks for that. I was simply thinking of fingerings as the clarinet is not identical to the sax....but your answer makes perfect sense.
      I love your teaching style.
