    Thank you Donna. I am 83 and have had TMJ for 5 weeks. Upon waking at 0500 after sleeping on left side. Ok after sleeping on right side. Have concluded that I was using too much ombachoer after much dental work. Thanks for your channel.

      I don't know what too much embouchure means... If you have TMJ, you need to be mindful of your jaw position when playing saxophone. Some people place their jaw in such a position that irritates the TMJ. Some people have too much tension in their jaw when they play, which is also not good.

    Thank you for posting this, I’m a sophomore in highschool and we compete at state tournaments and stuff in our wind ensemble. I have a incredibly mild version of TMJ in which my doctors and even my surgeon doesn’t know what else to do to fix it, I even had surgery and it did absolutely nothing after the fact. It’s a struggle being a big member of a band when I have to stop playing after only 5 measures of a very slow piece, it makes it hard to do something I absolutely love. I hope this helps other people, sadly it didn’t for me. ❤️

      I also have super bad hyper mobility and other muscle bone tissue problems that made my jaw a big problem then just TMJ, the discs in my jaw was ground down from it and it created bone spurs.

    Content is very good, however video is difficult to watch because it was shot in the portrait mode. Looks like I'm looking through a slightly open door. Video in the landscape mode is an aspect ratio we are more accustomed to.

    Thanks for posting this video, funny timing too because I recently experimented with Vandoren Jumbo Javas but had to stop using the Jumbo Java because the shape of the MP "stretched" my jaw and it hurt pretty badly; it stressed my jaw. It kind of freaked me out because I've never, every, had the problem of a sore jaw ever when trying a different MP, so I wasn't expecting the Jumbo Javas to affect me like that, guess I bit off more than I could chew LOL. My doctor just said to let it rest for a week or so and I would be okay. Claude Lakeys are the MPs that have always clicked well with me, they're very comfortable while playing. I love the Ebonite Apollos for Tenor :)

      +Michael Bishop Wow - I'm glad that things are better for you now. You made a great point in that the bigger mouthpieces (usually the hard rubber) may stretch your jaw. This is a big issue for people who either have TMJ or just can't support the larger mouthpiece. Thanks for your comment!

      That's one of the reasons why I love Claude Lakey because I have a smaller mouth and they feel very comfortable to me, have never had problems hitting Altissimo or anything. I've tried other MPs like Otto LInks, Guardalas, Theo Wanne, etc.. So when I got to try the Jumbo Java that pain freaked me out a little because it was unexpected, but it wasn't for any of the reasons you mention in your video; I basically bit off more than I could chew I guess you could say LOL On a side note I just finished setting up my home recording studio here at my house and will start my uploads sometime now in April, stay tuned. I always appreciate the insights from other experienced players, that's how we grow. Good playing to you, I subscribed.

      +Michael Bishop Thx for the Subscribe and compliment! It's good you don't normally have jaw pain, and I am really glad you made your comment about how larger mouthpieces can also cause some people jaw problems. That was a really good point and great insight from a fellow experienced player. 👍

    Great tip. Could you tutorial on how to growl on the alto saxophone?

    • @DonnaSchwartz
      @DonnaSchwartz  8 лет назад

      +celticfan0 sometime in the near future, yes. It's important to have a good solid tone first before you attempt special sound effects like growling - just keep that in mind... 😊 🎷

    Hi Donna, thank you so much. But can I ask what is meant by warm air and cold air? Obviously I can't actually change the temperature of my breath, or can I? Thank you so much!

    Hi! I'm a fairly new saxophone player(I've been playing for almost two years) and I realized that when I'm playing my lower jaw tends to jut forward.It seems like a habit I've picked.I've never had any formal training so I don't know whether this is okay.Kindly advise.

      I would recommend having a qualified teacher watch you play to see if it is impeding your range and tone

    I have been starting to have a lot of jaw pain and it’s to the point where I am kinda scared to open it because I feel like my jaw is going to dislocate, what should I do to have the pain go away?

    • @DonnaSchwartz
      @DonnaSchwartz  2 года назад

      You need to see either your dentist or a doctor and ask about TMJ

      Stop playing for a week as I am. Our jaw joint is as complicated as an ankle. Rest up after an injury. Use less ombachoer. Good luck. James NZ 82.
