Met and had a wonderful talk with one of the long standing co-stars of Joan Collins and pretty much said what has been said for years, that Joan's career was saved by Dynasty and that it was perfect for her, since, she was never a serious actress and was perfectly playing herself in the role of Alexis. Joan was'nt liked in the same way that her character was'nt liked by others in the show. She was no Elizabeth Taylor in tge human decency department.
None of that is true. I’ve met Joan Collins several times over the years. The original cast members were jealous because they faced cancellation until Spelling brought her in and made her the dominant character and they lost significance. Joan is nothing like Alexis full stop. She obviously looks like her, dresses like her and sounds like her but Joan is not driven, she does not take herself seriously, she’s realistic but mostly kind about others, she’s even now a devoted mother to her children and she did not fight over them with her divorced husbands, they got along as friends to bring the children up well. She has a much stronger sense of humour and light heartedness and fun than Alexis. As for not being a decent person, she was given a dame-hood by the late Queen for her services to charity of which she does a great deal but quietly.

Fully aware that she and the writers brought gravitas to the role, but my favorite and the one that is the best is still season one for it's more realistic look followed by the second season, after that the creators ruined the show by not eliminating tiresome characters and plots soon enough, Claudia should have been killed way before season 6 and Alexis should have flown the coop at 7 if not sooner. What the truth is give writers the credit they deserve, none of the exciting characters and their actors would have been memorable without them, and that includes Joan!
