Casinos are not in the business of gambling they're in the business of mathematics. This has been a favorite idea with me for years and this video has really brought it out. Thank you Marc
You're correct. I've commonly said that casinos are in the business of marketing and their secondary business is gaming. Because they know once they get people in the door and into that labyrinth of curves, they're going to spend some money
I love your videos and the one “mantra” I hear in my head as I’m playing is “play the bet level you’re comfortable with”. When I try to play higher than my comfort level, I’m nervous and not having fun. When I bet at my comfortable bet level, the chase is exciting and when it hits, it’s exhilarating! Thank you 🙏🏼
People NEED to start reading & educating themselves on game rules, especially regarding pots, pigs, firecracker games, etc. since it's not front and center on a machine. Great video Marc.
People should educate themselves. I cannot think of a business line, however, that could get away with the fraud of "perceived progression." I think it should be criminal. No one is there to walk people through the basics like any other entertainment business, and no license is required to operate
From all the slots channels this is by far the best educational out there... You touch psychological and technical subjects wich is the most important thing. Keep em going marc 💪
Good summary of lots of items you've already highlighted in previous videos. Thanks to you guys (and with Cowboy Slots before), I reckon I'm now a 'smart gambler' (if there is such a thing, lol). This was highlighted when I visited Vegas with my daughter, and kept telling her: "don't play that machine", "on your budget, that high volatility machine isn't for you", "don't be fooled by the expanding fish", etc., etc. I've also converted a lot of my play to old school 3 reel slots. So, thank you very much, guys, greatly appreciated. The way I look at my visits to Vegas, are like an all-inclusive holiday. I get free accommodation, free food, free drinks, limo pick-up and drop-off from the airport, loads of Freeplay, etc., etc. All I have to spend money on is the gambling, which I thoroughly enjoy!!!
I know that they suck us in all the time . I played panda and it was cold like it was shut off and I’ve done it many times over . But I also have walked up to a machine on the first spin and got in . Luck and timing ! Thanks 😊
Exploitation you got it right Marc, joined with your emphasis on awareness here. Loud music in the casino increases our cortisone which affects our decision making. Earplugs handy.
Thanks for sharing your good ideas, and here are some more.... Most amateur gamblers start with a mindset: I've got X dollars to lose. My goal is if I start with X dollars, I stop if I get to 2X (or 1.5X). i.e., have a lower limit AND an upper limit. Most casinos don't have windows and don't have clocks. The lighting is usually somewhere around dusk or dawn like. Also, the floor pattern of slots are set up in a seemingly hap-hazard way, but that's very intentional. The music is up tempo and 'urgent'... and they pump in specific scents... and many more 'tricks.' Good luck!!
A wise Casino Slot Director once told me " Time Is On The Casino's Side " So Boys and Girls what that means is . If you stay in a casino long enough . your going to lose your $$$ . Have a great day and if your at the casino ...Good Luck .
I agree 100% Marc! This channel has really helped us.The gamble boxes have been the #1 reason. Once, you do that, you show that you can control yourself and you come back with money. The #2 is not falling for the Pig,chicken etc. I always thought the bigger it got then it would hit.NOPE! I don't play those anymore(I stopped before your channel).Cash the ticket out and put it back in,take your players card out, they cheat, I lost they rigged it. All myths explained in further detail. Thanks! You can't tell people who don't believe it. They have to find out the hard way. You get a good hits?Cash it out. Put some in your box and try more. If It does nothing, get up and leave.Take a break or find something else to play. Happy New Year!
Thanks Marc for the info. One thing to mention is different Casinos have different RTP’s on average. They can be found here in Ohio on the Lottery Commission VLT website and the Casino Control Commission website. Not all Casinos are equal and yes they can have the manufacturer set the odds lower when they order the machines. For example you can play the exact same machine but at a different Casino and your payback over time will be different. As someone who has spent many years and thousands of hours playing I can attest to the fact the volatility has increased on the newer style games, and boy can you lose a lot/ win a lot depending on the algorithm. Thanks
Thanks for the video Marc! I always enjoy your content. I’m an engineer and love the math and probability, and still enjoy going to the casinos =). I appreciate the work you and your team put into educating us. Good luck in Vegas next week!
Absolutely wonderful video, Marc. Well said and totally agree with you on posting a message on the machine for perceived progressives (pots, firecrackers, and the like). It is fun to play when you read and know the rules for transparency of expectations when deciding on slot machines to play.
Best way to make money at a casino is to work there. Other than that you need to look at casinos as just another form of entertainment and stick to a budget. You can spend your money at a ball game, amusement park, auto races etc or you can take that same money to the casino and play or fun. The difference is, at a casino there is a slight chance you will get your money back and still have fun. Sticking to a budget is VERY important.
Bowl of prunes, constipation. Pros and cons debate-- excellent. Personal attacks-- constipation. May I offer you a bowl of stewed prunes. Thank you again for a cheerful, genuine look at slot play for subscribers as myself.
Great video. You were talking about roulette and the past results board. What I always thought was funny was Baccarat where players were hunched down and writing on a card all the past results and deciding if they should play banker or player. And when I watched the game play, it looked so boring. I know the game has the lowest house edge in the casino.... Another topic I would love to see you cover is table game "side bets". Talk about extracting money from players! When I first starting gambling on table games, you never saw any side bets. Now there are lots of them.
You do a very good job of explaining things in your videos. Thank you for the constant education lol i am mathematical thinker. Really like top dollar and can't wait for glass. Keep educating people Marc
Great stuff as always. I do wish you'd go into more detail about variance some time. I think that is something that causes a lot of people to believe some of these myths.
Only recently realized that what you are saying is correct. Makes me think I should quit casinos Thank you very much for confirming what I have been thinking.
Great honest video. I think some casinos are now paying some RUclipsrs to fake winning on games like MOE MUMMY, etc.. as well as table games. Sad for the public that actually try those methods.
Great delivery. The bright slot graphics is just an update from the last visit. And yet anyone can repeat losing their ass and somehow enjoy their next visit with free play & drinks. What is the definition of extortion? bwaha.. Yup..thats exactly it!
G'day Marc, Happy New Year! 🎉 Another excellent video and exceptionally valuable information as always. I just sent you guys an email on my thoughts, it won't let me comment them on here for whatever reason. Probably didn't like that I put in company/machine names, lol. My point being is, and just echoing Marc's statement; if you're going into any casino or club, just remember the longer you sit at that machine, the additional money you pump into that machine, in the long run, you will likely lose. Do not chase progressives/bonuses. If you get lucky, TAKE IT AND RUN. Knowledge is power in the casino. Thanks again Marc.
Marc after sending you my pictures of the money box a couple of weeks ago I didn’t take it with me to Biloxi Thursday night because it was “just one night”. Built my ticket up and woke up to $1.76. Very disappointed in myself. Love this video and hello from South Georgia
Funny enough I played 9 line TD and i actually ignored the "take offer" at 120 credits. Thinking id go with my gut. Well my gut was 15 credits. 15! I was shocked.
In Australia, Perth in particular they have *safe play* on general floor Max bet $10 spin and if your registered player and have card in machine will check on you if you have exceeded play time or not taken a break in 3 hours! There are many restrictions legally as well, for base players. High-end gamblers, behind closed doors......like all casinos......let me take your money! 😜😝

I am so glad that I don’t gamble like that. But it is very admirable that she is willing to be so transparent.
But she is growing a channel there is a guy that does something similar losing hundreds of thousands per year gambling but makes over a million net of losses from view, subs, sponsorships etc... she is just investing in her business on the path to hit that other streamers goal.
Marc, I admit I still need help badly.... 🤦♀️ Played the slots last night for hours at Wind Creek in Pa.... Wish I still had the full amount of $550 that I ran the machine up to!!! (after losing money) I get mad & frustrated at my own self-- like why the HELL don't I learn to get up out the chair & LEAVE??? Omg, what a mind trick- just thinking I will continue to win MORE $$$ if I continue to play longer, even though I see my "cash in" amount dwindling down, further & further..... 😣😣😣
Get a gamble box if you do not have one and use it. I am telling you it will make a huge difference.I bought the boxes last year. The last 5 trips we have taken and one was a day trip we have brought money back. Most of the time it is breaking even maybe a little ahead. Still, we don't come home broke.I hope it is better for you next time!
Notice on glass about perceived size of piggies, bags etc will not help. Signage would be small & piggies big. I notice people do not read signs! Great video, keep putting out explanations- should help some to realize what really is going on.
I'm not a big slot machine player. I play blackjack but sometimes just for fun I play slots. I played slots for years and never hit a jackpot until the Buffalo slots were introduced at the casino I frequent. I hit a jackpot the FIRST TIME I played it. Pure luck. Another gottcha slots have is giving free games but using what they call 'bonus reels'. You have to get deep into the rules to learn what they are. Another one is the Quick Pick with all the money you could get with 5 thru 9 Quick Picks symbols. What is not evident is that you have to play the maximum bet to get them.
Happy New Year, Mark! Did you get my Double Diamond game back in stock yet? I totally agree that they should post that the firecrackers, pigs, gold fish are just a visual and have no effect on when the bonus will be activated.. It's borderline predatory. You and I know this but there are a lot of naive people out there who have no idea how it really works and those are the people who believe that the visual is indicative of when the bonus feature is going to be activated. They are not stupid people they are just uninformed and the casinos know that, and they definitely take advantage of that. It's kind of akin to how they fool people on their room prices by hiding the resort fees until the person actually checks in and has to pay the extra $40-$80 per day.
You make alot of sense! Can u make a video on how the game of E-Z Baccarat explotis us, how to counter act the game ? Is it the same as roulette with the monitor the display ?
I get that the “pot games” are just a perception. How does the game determine when it awards the bonus? Is it just when a particular bonus symbol lands? BTW I love your channel and share videos with my husband 😂. He needs your help too.
@GambleSmart been fighting the arthritis from injury and surgery on neck and shoulder for last 3 days since weather is cold and where looking at freezing rain, sleet and snow 🌨️ coming in late tonight. I hope y'all are doing well. Take Care a friend from Western Kentucky.
Yes I hate those pots that look full or the ones that you fill because you feel like you’ve invested so much and can’t leave it for the next person to take 😢 thats why I try my best not to play those.
Probability and odds are often confused. Your odds are the same on ever spin but the probability of the wheel only landing on red numbers 20x in a row is very low. Same goes for baccarat which is virtually a 50/50 but you can use probability as a strategy.
I think it's like people knowing smoking is bad for them for the still smoke, similar to the graphics on the machine, it may never pop but it's the possibility and manufactures probably know we are sucker's...sad but true
So if i olay the one that the pot is full doesn't mean that it is any better chance to win on but it doesn't mean it is any worse. just don't chase full pots, bags or whatever.
you need to read the game rules. there are some games where the fuller bags etc actually do matter and some where it doesn’t mean anything. it will say in the rules.
When I tell people that those full pots, etc. Mean nothing, they don't believe me. They always play the full ones, saying...look, they are ready to pop. I don't play those machines myself, just a money drain.
Does bet size influence odds of getting a grand on a machine like dragon link? Does a $0.50 bet on Pennie’s have the same odds as a $50 bet on $1 denom?
I'm no expert but I play a lot of those machines. Aristocrat machines sometimes state in their game rules that a larger bet gives you a better chance of winning the larger jackpots. Small bets win large jackpots too, but when I increase my bets, I hit larger amounts more often.
Regarding the auditing and checks and balances from agencies, in your opinion are tribal slots (Washington specific) as sure to have no outside influence/manipulation? It certainly feels like the rtp is being adjusted month to month etc.
Highly unlikely that they are making any changes. When you are dealing with probabilities on such a large scale, you are sure to witness times of "no hits" and times of "lot's of hits". For example, Dave and I go to vegas 6 or 7 times a year, play the same machines, and sometimes we do good, and some times we get recked. However, the machines aren't being changed. This is just the expected behavior.
@@monicas-n2j it was too fast for human intervention from post to deletion but lets try again. 1. A slots manager has the ability to program the RNG chip to pay out the jackpot at a certain time eg I want this machine to pay out sometime in March. 2. If you know the state of a few results on a machine you can project, using the RNG chip math, what the results will be over the next million spins or more. A russian hacker did this. His pal sat at a machine and was told to wait. Once a pattern of wins was probablelistically set to show up as win results he pinged his pal and told him to start max betting.
@@monicas-n2jI just now tried again and again it was quickly deleted. Let me use different words here- inside the slot machine is a computer. It uses math to produces results that mimic randomness. Since it is programmable, the csdinoncan choose to determine when say in s particular month will a machines jackpot pay out. No one will know when or which spin, but once programned it will produce the winning result.
The NEWER machines are Programmed to pay out SMALLER bonus wins. Especially the Indian Casinos. The Gaming Commission does NOT press the NORMAL payout ratios that say Vegas Casinos do. I have used a "Stop Spin" method and won the Bonus only to receive basically NOTHING.
Are Video Poker machines truly random when the cards are dealt? Is there a RNG or something else to ensure randomness? Is there some type of “fail safe” built into the program in case it’s paying too much or too little?

@GambleSmart been fighting the arthritis from injury and surgery on neck and shoulder for last 3 days since weather is cold and where looking at freezing rain, sleet and snow 🌨️ coming in late tonight. I hope y'all are doing well. Take Care a friend from Western Kentucky.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that Rosemary. We hope you take care of yourself. Stay warm.
I had to take three statistics classes for my undergrad
Go for a big win! No penny ante bets.
Yes the manufacturer should put a disclaimer on the machines. You will make smarter decisions concerning how long to play each machine.
Speaking about dummy boards, how about the one you see when you walk up to a baccarat table? Could this be considered the same thing?
Best thing to if your up stop and walk away from 100$ and up .. more you play more they will get ..
I think it's like people knowing smoking is bad for them for the still smoke, similar to the graphics on the machine, it may never pop but it's the possibility and manufactures probably know we are sucker's...sad but true
You forgot about triple O roulette, 6 to 5 blackjack & $30/$150/$30 ATS @ craps!
Great video
So if i olay the one that the pot is full doesn't mean that it is any better chance to win on but it doesn't mean it is any worse. just don't chase full pots, bags or whatever.
Right!
you need to read the game rules. there are some games where the fuller bags etc actually do
matter and some where it doesn’t mean anything. it will say in the rules.
@@stevee9973do u find u win more betting bigger bet or on a bigger denomination ? I love dragon links won most my handpays on golden century!
@@Tastywagyu wow I responded to this comment with a few examples of how the RNG chip isnt really random and youtube scrubbed it...hmmmm
@@trevorparry2287are you sure it was RUclips that deleted it?
Happy New Year
Same to you!
Are Video Poker machines truly random when the cards are dealt?
Is there a RNG or something else to ensure randomness?
Is there some type of “fail safe” built into the program in case it’s paying too much or too little?
The slot machine buttons test positive for bad things. 😮
