Does this method work with an 2.3 trooper 87?

Hi George. I don't know specifically, but if it's the same type of design (and being that old, it may be), it should. Some distributors work on pressure instead of vacuum, tho. Others just use centrifugal weights, so I can't say for sure.

hello sir when i go over 80kph my car jerks and loses power but when i slow down it goes back to normal, is the vacuum advancer the problem of my car?

Hi Patrick. While in don't think you can rule it out, I would look elsewhere (fuel delivery, spark) for power loss at high RPM first. It could be sticking, but I'm not sure how much loss of performance you would get. Sorry I can't help more.

and when the plate moves, what is the back stop, my dissy plate seems caught up , some where I read a certain vaccum needed before it starts to move, should it be free to move at low vaccum

ok, latest new, I threw caution to the wind, took out dizzy, found the vacuum stop, is in the vacuum head, spring in head can push back to shaft stop, further the sticky bit, found under the ball runner, the "hill" base it rides on needed a fine file to remove a burr, all sweet, ahh the things we teach our selves, lol, and love to share

    Can you leave this disconnected?

You can, but the engine may suffer in performance, especially at higher revs. As the engine spins faster, the distributor needs to start the spark sooner so the current has time to travel from the coil to the gap in the plugs. This vacuum advance, along with some centrifugal weights internal to the distributor, help this happen. If you disconnect it, you'll lose some of this advance and performance will suffer as the spark comes late when the piston is already on it's downward stroke without combustion.
