  • Poor shoulder mobility can result in shoulder pain and even pain in your low back and elbows due to compensation and this exercise will help improve full range shoulder mobility.
You're working shoulder flexion, extension, horizontal flexion and extension and internal and external rotation - every movement your shoulders are capable of.
The keys to executing this technique properly are to:
    1) Move slowly
    2) Keep activating to push the end range, even though there's no movement in that direction
As you get familiar with the shoulder movement and activation patterns of the exercise, you'll then be able to improve your alignment and how you breathe when doing it (not holding your breath).
Do it often and everything you do with your shoulders will get better - from gym exercises to swinging clubs or rackets to throwing balls to reaching up to grab things from the top shelves in your kitchen.
If you have problems or need to restore proper movement and activation of your shoulders check out the Shoulder Control course: www.precisionm...

I’ve been doing all sorts of mobility for almost a year now to fix some issues. THIS single exercise is more effective than every shoulder mobility move I’ve been doing. Since I watched this I’ve been switching between sets of these and scap pushups. I think I’m on my way to shoulder health, can’t thank you enough!!

Thanks! :-) In only do it irregularly, like twice a week, and still have noticed quite an improvement.

I can't express how thankful I am! My shoulder pain used to be chronic and I can shortly relief it only by popping my shoulders using the door sides. the joint used to crack when ever I rotate my arm. I did this exercise a month ago, and it gave me a long-term relief! The mobility increased, no cracking, no pressure after using the shoulder, no need to pop it to get short relief!
    Thank you very much sir.

Thank you; I've had a 'charley horse' knot under my left scapula for days. Rolling on a ball and trying to stretch it out didn't work. I just tried this along with you and the knot has eased. Wow! I'll be doing this one regularly. Love your videos. I'm a ways over 60 and back into working out....the first video I saw from you was for the multifidus muscles. I have been doing this exercise religiously for about 4 days now for my dysfunctional shoulders/ribcage on one side only-L.
Lately everything I had done seemed to aggravate my shoulders and also my cervical spine. I wanted to try this exercise, though a little skeptical that it would add more discomfort, not b/c of this exercise but b/c I am such a mess. Well 4th day no pain/discomfort while doing it, yay !! I do have burning in the scapular area afterwards, but that has been temporary. I know I have a long ways to go b/c I really don’t know what is causing my dysfunction and neither does anyone else. Pretty sure it’s just muscular weaknesses somewhere along the kinetic chain but where. It even is going into the lower body. I just want to fix this before it screws my body up.
I have basically been piece mealing all my exercises(yours & athlean x) , for each dysfunction (forward shoulder, winging, weakness mid-lower traps, serratus weakness, upper traps/levator etc.) but I have only made things worse. I can be my own worst enemy sometimes. So I decided I needed a plan, not go crazy w/soo many exercises for each problem I gave.
this shoulder routine of yours is a definite plus for me and will continue with it to see if it brings my shoulders to some point of normalcy so I can start adding in more strengthening exercises for both neck and shoulders. I just can’t take the cervical dysfunction that I believe is caused by the shoulders being misaligned.
I am also doing your bird dog exercise for the lower body and some of your rotational neck exercises. I just want to thank you Eric for all that you do!!!!

Wow... this is great! Not easy! But it cleared my impingement after the first go. When the impingement comes back, I do this technique again to clear it then do other exercises to strengthen. After just a few days, the shoulder stays clear for longer and the impingement is less severe when it comes back. I feeling very encouraged that you've shown me something that will actually work to bring my long impingement story to end... permanently! Thank you!!

Enormously helpful! The place where I tend to get "caught" if I'm not loose enough, is coming up to about shoulder height. I found if I don't tighten upward in the tops of my shoulders, and try to relax into it and let it go, I do much better through that area, but I don't push it. If I have to go just to about shoulder height and then come back down very slowly a couple of times before I can go up over my head, that's okay. Thank you for another great exercise!
