My friend Marc Smolders drowned in 1965. We sang together 'En aai laaik ill' because we couldn't speak any English. But every time I hear this, I think of him...
I'm 44 now but growing up my dad used to love this song. Me and my dad had a very broken relationship with him being mentally abusive, sometimes physically (though it would be more threats than actual violence). I didn't see him for most of my life after my teen years, but then he became terminally ill and wanted to see his children. We spoke but he wouldn't admit to his wrongdoings and I ended up being more hurt than I already was. Then he died and we never got to finding closure. Over the past few years since his death I've been able to let go of a lot of my anger and pain, and it's opened me up to look deeper into who he was, realizing that not one person on earth is onedimensional, and he once was a young person with hopes and dreams of raising a family. This song reminds me of that. It's from 1965 and my dad would have been 18 years old. A young teen possibly drinking his first beer, and falling in love for the first time, hanging out with friends, posters on the wall and possibly driving his first moped or motorcycle. This was the soundtrack to that. Today I mourn the child that was inside. The one full of dreams and aspirations, before everything turned sour and his mental health started taking a turn. What he did to me was wrong, and he was responsible for it. It has left its marks on me far into adulthood. But at the same time he may not have known better. He may not have wanted it this way. That's what I choose to think. Rest in peace father. If there is a heaven I hope you're riding that new motorcycle for the first time, every single day.
Wow. I'm awed by your ability to open up and rationalise something so raw and painful to you. Bless you and I hope you find some solace and love in this beautful Ray Davies song, performed so well by Dave Berry. Good luck and best wishes @TMCremixes
Not that underrated it is Netherlands biggest ever hit, and many other countries also, thanks Ray Davies and of course Dave Berry for a great rendition, rock on baby

Hey Pietersen, dat dit jou video was wist ik niet. Ik maak genoeg video's zelf maar vond deze uniek. Als je wilt verwijder ik hem of verwijs hem naar jouw kanaal! Dus zeg het maar!!! Vriendelijke groet

That's such a sad story sir, but it's a beautiful memory to honor his existence.
@@TMCremixes Thank you sir!
I met this beautiful song because it appears in a Mexican movie called Blue Eyelids and since then it has become one of my favorite songs.
Beautiful song. written by Ray Davies of the Kinks, a great songwriter, enjoy!

A lost Kinks classic.
I still love this song. Bobby Graham, our manager in the sixties played drums on this.....and all of the Dave Clark Five hits
may be called a 'one hit wonder' ... but the magnitude!
(appreciate that this gem is ad-free)
The brothers sun brought me here, been listening to all covers, I prefer this the best!
My favourite Dave Berry tune.Lanquid strange but hyptonic
Hermosa canción.
brilliant.
We 2:23 met Dave in the netherlands polder/countryside village in 1982 😊
I believe Ray Davies from The Kinks wrote this song.
Exactly, didn't we have it in the 60s and still today and tomorrow WOW
Yes
Written by Ray Davis if the Kinks.

@@mister60s75 maak zelf een video!! toch niet zo moeilijk
This version is stranger than the original Kinks version. So, I think it works better.
The Kinks never recorded a proper studio version of it just a BBC session.
Yes, caters to all tastes,
It's a Kinks song written by Ray Davies!
❤
I declined to click on LIKE as the current likes are 666 ... but i DO like it!!
It's now at 696, which is kind of the same. I'd better leave it alone.
