From Talofofo, Guam. I just separated a Blue Java Pup from it’s mother. This was an in ground to in ground transplant. I use a spade to cut the pup from the mother. After separation I rinse the wound with clean water then coat the wound with plenty of ground cinnamon. I let the wound air dry for about two hours before planting. I have a nearly 100% survival rate.
A good video, I transplanted two pups which were no more than three inches each this morning before watching the video...... The pups had no root, but I cut all the way so they had the bulb..... after that I caught your video and you said that you'd rather give them some time to grow....... now I'm afraid the pups might not make it on their own ....... Is there anything I can do? Thanks
It depends on if they don't have roots because they were cut too far away from the mother plant, or if because they were too young... Either way, you can at least try to save them, by wrapping the cut end with a wet paper towel, and then place them in a plastic bag (leaves and all). Set it out of any direct light, but still, good ambient light will benefit them by giving their leaves the sunlight to then produce roots... I hope this makes sense, and helps! Will you let me know how they turn out?
Let the pups stay with the mother until they are at least two feet high. They will grow faster with the mother plant and should develop their own root system.
Just use a small sawsall with a 12 inch blade and will cut smooth straight lines and with the long blade it goes down deep enough to get a smooth cut and you won't be struggling with it. Done it numerous times and all my babies have survived.
Have you ever tried dropping melted wax on the wound? I'm getting ready to separate some pups. I've never tried it, but I've seen it done before. I might experiment with it.
Do you let the cut heal on the mother plant as well? It's more awkward to plant it on an angle like with the pups because of its size. And if I do, will it straighten up on it's own like the pups?
Maybe try cutting it at the break, but then the rest of the stalk may be weakened, as the layers of leave stems are what build up the trunk to establish the plants strength
Cut it at the bent area it will literally start a new bloom overnight the a full nub in 3 days ,, just had to cut my stalk down to about 4ft 60 days later I’m at 10-12 ft tall 🌴
Awesome! ...glad it helped. I had seen a lot of videos on it, but until I did it, and found my own way of doing it.... I was sort of lost. Thanks for watching
If you cut the pups corm off but no visible roots ? Then plant it n keep it in the shade with moisture till they start regrowing. But if you cut just the stalk n didn’t get a major part of the corm, then the pup is likely to not make it or be able to produce bananas, because they’re sourced straight out of the corm.
100% bud. I was in a rush. Didn’t have to take out the base plant n them repot it. Taking it out would’ve lost soil around the base and that’s hard to get back in the pot with roots. But yeah. It’d been a lot easier. Should’ve said it in the vid
I had one in a pot for many years. Last April I put it in the ground and it's now huge with 6-8 babies. Pots keep them smaller, which it nice sometimes.

I have my first banana plant and she already has 2 pups. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for this video! I love the idea of leaving the spot exposed to heal
Thank you! Super informative video. Finally transplanted my pup and discovered I had two others attached to the mama pant too.
Thank you for this video and sharing your technique!!
Thank you, it is a great video
Loved the "I'm allowed to"!!!!
Maybe you should request one for YOU for Christmas, birthday, or fathers day?
Thanks a lot for sharing. Very helpful information.
I luv Black Farmers! Keep up the good fight!
Thanks for the tips!!
Dude that is genius, I’ve had a couple small pups that size die of root rot cuz I just planted it away and watered too much
Thanks bud!
I get it. Try some ground cinnamon on the cut area. It will help healing and protect from Rot.
Thank you
Great idea man.
From the beginning, remove the entire plant from the pot. The pups will be much easier to cut off and remove.
Take the plant out of the pot next time easier to cut of and work with then put the root ball back in the pot , luv banana enjoy it

Banana stems can photosynthesize with no leaves so its ok to cut them but the root cutting I don't understand how it works
There are many aspects to this video that are very funny
Great video.. Ty

Sounds like a good idea!
@@unconventionalme8048 Update on the wax method. I have 9 pups that Ive used the wax method on and all are doing great!

I generally plant it up right, covering the roots, leaving the cut area open n washed off in order to dry n heal over before covering it later.
thanks man, helped me heaps :)
Great video
Thank you!
My plant was delivered Bent just above the stalk. I’m in Southrn Cal. , how should I trim it ?
Bent, not broken?

@@jennypotts2008 how often are you water ?

Do you have to let the cuts on the mother plant dry out too? Ps good video
No. Just plant the roots in the soil with the cut side up. 😊
But what if my banana tree isn’t as sturdy as your and I cut into it. Won’t it destroy my whole tree ?
Not sure how to answer that without seeing the parent plant
The pup when ready will be substantial enough on its own. And be on a separate base/bulb
Must be his very first video....lol
Lol it was definitely one of the first…. 🥴🤦♂️😂
Thanks for the video, it helped me alot.

I keep my Musa basjoo + 5 pups in full soil, unprotected during winter, and they survived it. My area is Zone 7 or Cf. Thanks again.
What happens if you don’t get roots?

They need the ground

You need to go to walmart and get a bigger knife .
