This might be the best plant video I have ever seen.
Fellow biologist here. Another benefit to the mulch is when it rains it keeps the rain drops from splattering back up from the soil up onto the leaves which could cause bacteria to get on the plant’s leaves and start its demise.
AWESOME POINT! Thank you so much for sharing Mary!
Charles 🌱👍
We use a long sharp machete to only chop twice within 5 seconds to harvest! First to chop half of the truck ( at 4 feet height), the gravity will pull the fruit down, holding the top of the banana bunch, and last chop to get the whole bunch.. within 5 seconds!
Happy fathers day to all the men who subscribe to IV Organics wonderful channel. As fathers, we provide for the family in many ways. Our gardens are just a few. Other ways are protection and love & that shoulder to lean on. Wisdom to men!
Thank you so much for your great videos. Welcome to Thailand when Covid -19 away from earth. Good luck sir.
I have 4 trees now. Just planted a Kiki in the ground & it’s done great! I got 2 really nice bunches this past summer. I don’t do anything for them. They’re just happy living here in Hawaii.
Hi Charles - Fantastic! I admire your enthusiasm for banana plants. I am as well. Wonderful plants that love the sun!
Best dessert: peel bananas, in frying pan melt butter, add bananas (whole), bring to a soft boil, turning the bananas, Browning evenly, while Browning the bananas, add brown sugar, vanilla, ground cinnamon and few cinnamon sticks, few cloves (easy on this, their flavor is strong), keep simmering ( u can add a bit of water so the sugar won't burn and stick to the pan) until the ingredients with the bananas become a syrup and there are ready to serve (let them cool a bit) add ice cream!!! Yummy... u'll thank me, Wonderful unique flavor for a special dessert! Let me know if you liked it!😊🍌. I also make banana pancakes, bread and cakes, nothing like bananas!! Love them! 👍💜
Great info, thanks for sharing
Hi Charles! Great, informative video as usual. Your banana vids are my favorite. Very inspirational!
Hello fryloc77! Thank you so much for the compliment!!! And yes, the bananas are awesome: a beautiful tropical accent plant PLUS+ delicious fruit 'off the vine'. A win-win! Charles :-)
This was awesome!! Thanks so much. Aloha from Maui
Helloooo 👋.... from Toronto, Ontario, CANADA 🇨🇦.... I really enjoy your very informative podcast show here on RUclips ! YOU ARE A TRUE INSPIRATION TO GARDENERS, GUARANTEED !!!!!!!! LOVE
Great video deserves more views!
Very informative video. Thank you so much sir.
This was MAJOR helpful with so much information!!! We are now growing our first bunch of bananas, so we had no clue what to do next. I've also been researching awesome ORGANIC plant food so I loved you including this too...ordering. I shared your video on FB!! Thank you!
Banana plant are very good for mulching during summer, it can also used for composting during rainy season. It is always good to remove the small plants after keeping one or two small ones for good fruit growth
we love our ice cream banana trees. we waited over 2 yrs after planting but they are thriving since adding more compost & mulch. These are so much fun !!! Thank you for sharing.
Where can i buy a ice cream banana plant, also a cavendish bana plant
Your a legend man
Thank you for the compliment Dally TV! Charles 😀👍
Fantastic video. Thank you so much.
The place looks like a forest 😲..love it
Thank you very educational, l have always wondered how people grown alot of bananas tree in one season despite the winter.
I like you products you show- yes plants can get sunburned
Banana plant grows naturally. You don't need all the cermicals to grow it. Check the forest in south east asian country's. They grow wild without any help. Just water them when the earth is dry that all you need to do .
Bananas look tasty. Wonderful harvest in organic way. Thank you for this informative video. Have a great weekend
Thank you Backyard Gardening! I've been enjoying banana smoothies every day (for breakfast or lunch) since this harvest!!! YUMMY!!! Charles :-)
Great job! 😍👌❤
I just acquired a few banana plant pups and while I'm not expecting and bananas from them, i am hoping for some awesome looking center piece plants from them. THANK YOU for the Argonne and full of info video!
You're so lucky to keep banana plants growing throughout the year. Here in Germany they survive only with a lot of packages around to prevent the cold of the winter. Before we have to cut off leaves and next year's spring only new leaves develop. The growing season is too short to produce fruits.
Inside grow light 1000W?
Subbed and going to nursery tomarow.
So sad when the wind shreds the leaves. Such a fun plant to grow though. Your info & tips are very useful and applicable! I plan to bump up my fertilizing schedule. Do far I have just been using Miracle-Gro every 2 weeks.
I use excess 🍌🍌for vinegar 😋 . Mash them up put in a bucket with a fine mesh / cloth on top. After 4 weeks skim off the waste. Leave for another 6 weeks. Perfect for making salad dressings!
Banana "ice cream" is my favorite. Frozen bananas, a few walnuts (the walnuts add fat that makes it taste more rich and even more like ice cream; a few walnuts to me is 4-6 depending on size and that's for a single serving). Experiment with flavors. I've done cacao, blueberry, pistachio (omitted the walnuts), almond butter (also omitted the walnuts), so many yummy flavors to try.
I also love to eat them straight out of the fridge with nothing on them.
Totally trying that!!
coco fiber and peat what is your take on that? I have been having great luck with both in Minnesota - yes winter is fun in my basement - covid taught me how to grow fruit and tropical plants during -40 weather. coming home from outside winter work into my tropical flower paradise.
To harvest a tall tree you should cut the stalk 6”above ground level, a little past half way through the base then grab the stalk as high as you can, then pull it towards you until it snaps and slowly walk it down gently laying it on the ground then, cut the bananas off and cut the tree into pieces while you and the tree are safely on firm ground
Love your vlog, I’m a new banana grower. I jus saw a blog from an Indian farmer that said that shredding is a sign of one of the micronutrients bein deficient.
Hello! I know in some of your other banana videos you have talked about not separating any pups while there is fruit on the plant. You said that you (only) got 30 pounds of bananas, because there were several 9 to 10 foot tall plants. Do you think it would have put more stress on the plant to dig off any extra pups, or leave them on and get compromised fruit from the plant splitting it’s energy 4, 5, or 6 ways? Don’t forget to put 1 foot of mulch on the bananas!!!
Oh yum I love bananas
Just frozen bananas and water blended is the best. ✌️🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌

Cool stuff Im growing dwarf banana in Wisconsin and bringing it indoors in winter not sure if it will fruit in Wisconsin thou.
You can boil the green in the skin for 20-30 minutes, peel and eat as a starch. You can mash the boiled green bananas with butter like potatoes. Yummy 😋
Sir thank you for your nice lecture about banana plants, but my problem is very expensive that kinds of organic fertilizers,
Banana bread of course!
very nice Charles, informative as always. Should I keep my banana transplant in shade? I have it in direct sun right now.
Good morning David! If your banana plant is doing well in the full sun, keep it there. The only reason for some shade would be: (1) transitioning the plant from indoors, to outdoors, (2) new transplants to reduce risk of desiccation... among some other reasons. Let me know if you have any other questions? Wishing you a Happy Fathers' Day Weekend!!!
Charles :-)
Thanks for all this info. Question - I have 2 young plants, about 7" each, that I've started in pots. They are Grand Nain Chequita Dwarf. Right now, they are just coming out of transplant shock (after being shipped to me) and starting to perk their leaves back up. During this time, I've kept them in the shade, covered the root area with dried leaves and water them twice a day. I do the 2nd-knuckle test to make sure the soil is moist but not soggy. My question is this . . . . when it's time to plant them in the ground, what do you recommend at what size I do that and the frequency of watering? I have Banana plant fertilizer 15-5-30 and bought the leaf spray protection you showed. They will be in full sun here in Zone 9b. I appreciate any input you can give! These are my first Banana plants, and I can't wait to have a whole 'bunch' of them growing!
I’ve seen where bugs will burrow into that cut off section- so many choose to cut out the very center of your cut section, so that water will collect there & prevent bugs from getting into that plant & hence ruining it.
Thanks for your feedback Jill!
Charles 🌱👍
Have y’all tried banana coleslaw???? Don’t waist it. U can do kimshy style
Boil the green banana in the skin. It's eaten by many people, especially Jamaicans.
I have peat moss and garden soil. Can I use these together for transplanting banana tree?
Once the the parent stock dries out do you dig it up?
Is it possible to make a banana fluit earlier by gicing it a lot extra pottasium?
Hey! This video starts at 8:00 lists of unnecessary talking but after the noted start time there are some helpful tips
Gave a like for the product alone once the ingredients were read. Beats the amendment of rock dust. Wondering how I could get a sample to show people why to use it. What is your grow zone and state IV ORGANICS?
My banana tree is producing some bananas. I noticed tonight though that there several sugar ants on the stock and the fruit. Are they harmless? Should I try to remove them with some thing?
Can you get these fertilizers in New Zealand
after transplanting banana tree you keep indoor or outdoor
This is the most informative video on banana plants I’ve seen! I really appreciate all of the tips. I’ve been meaning to move a pup away from our fence. Have you transplanted a pup in ground right away or do you recommend potting it first for a few weeks?
Potting it first would probably benefit more as you want to minimize the stress of the tree as much as possible. An by keeping it potted, it's in a more controlled and regulated environment.
I have a bunch of Plantain trees in Puerto Rico.. we don't live there so we really can't maintain them. I've notice when we do go, our banana plants are slugged over (with banana's on them) or have fallen.. When they slug over we have to prop it up with some wood. Can you tell me why they are slugging over and how can we prevent them from doing so..
Charles, another fantastic video as always! I love your banana harvest videos in particular. I have also really enjoyed the videos you've made recently of you touring other peoples' gardens. It's fascinating to see how everyone gardens in different ways. Suggestion: I know you've featured Tom Spellman many times before on your channel. I wonder if you could do a tour of his property. I bet he's growing a bunch of awesome stuff.
Hello Spencer Pendleton! Because of you, I just sent a message out to one of Tom Spellman's friends to arrange a meeting for us... something I have wished doing for YEARS!!! A tour of his home garden would be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! If all goes well, within 30-60 days, there will be a publication of our collaboration here! Fingers crossed! Thank you for sharing (and motivating me) on that GREAT suggestion!!! Have a GREAT weekend! Charles :-)
@@IVOrganic Awesome! That's so great to hear. You're welcome, lol. Hope to see it soon.
@@spendleton360 Good afternoon Spencer! I just wanted to thank you again for the 'push!' I have two meetings scheduled with Tom Spellman-- later this month in Irvine; and next month at the Dave Wilson Nursery!!! FYI: He prefers to keep his home garden private, which is understandable! :-) Wishing you a GREAT week!!! Charles :-)
@@IVOrganic Darn, but I totally get it. I'm so excited to hear about the two meetings coming up! Thank you so much for updating me. Have a great rest of your day!
So glad to hear you got some times set up with Tom! I just found a blue java at Home depot, and can’t wait to get it in the ground... now to find a place for it, lol
should an already fruited banana plant be removed immediately once you have removed the fruit rather than cutting to different length parts?
Slow fry them in butter till soft and brown. Hawaiian trear.
After you cat the crown to about 6", will it grow back?
Cook ripe or green bananas. Eat like potato or in lieu of rice 7:56
Great banana advice. Not fond of being pitched another of many many good plant care products. You sell the fertilizer If you must and I' sell the pups. That's where the $ is. Lol..thanks for you expert advice on pup extraction from mother corm.
Are there times in the year that one wouldn't fertilize?
Should I have multiple banana plants??
Where did you get your Gold Finger banana plant? I'm looking to get one
peace out fellow earthling
Sir where can we buy all those fertilizer you dhone can we buy that in Walmart or Canadian Tire Sto re ?
Is that banana can grow in basin only? More expensive is that organic fertilizer
Could you help me troubleshoot why I have so many banana trees but only get one or two stalks of bananas a year.
How do you pollinate
Do they still sell the plus+ ?
What size pot is the sucker in?
feather meal?? How are they obtained?
How often do you cut 50% of it back? once a week?
I have trimmed all but 2 leaves in half.
Once the plant is established & growing, no need to prune any more leaves in half. Keep me posted on your banana growing successes!!! Charles :-)
o dear, those fertilisers are not available in my country
I live in Hawaii where there are strick agricultural laws. How can I get the Java bananas here?
What growing zone are you in? I am in zone 8b and it's my first year growing the Ice Cream Banana. It has put on a ton of growth this season but I am worried about winter and the amount of protection it will need.
Hello Marshall G! I'm in grow zone 10b with winters that shade that section of my garden for at least 3 solid months, from mid-November through mid-February. Only the top few feet of the plants that get sun-- and that keeps them healthy enough through the winters-- but significantly slows down the ripening & development period for fruiting (compared to if it had full sun). The sunniest parts of my garden are reserved for my many lemon trees! For tips on winterizing your banana, you can see some helpful tips adopting these lessons I taught on a fig tree: ruclips.net/video/xIjGr1WJG-w/видео.html
Let me know if you have any other questions! Charles :-)
Not sure how to find or purchase these plants. I'm in Ontario Canada so can I get information on where to purchase these ice cream banana plants!!??
What's the name of the plants with the orange red flowers?
Can I plants banana in basin?
Lol. I have 3 babies on my dwarf cavendish, and 3 babies on my super dwarf. My super dwarfs soil is covered with beautiful moss lol
what nursery did you get your banana trees from? I would like to grow a few of those
Hello The Menace. My bananas were purchased several years ago from Home Depot or Lowes; however, the smaller local nurseries have contacts with the growers and can special order, typically within 7-10 days, any varieties you are seeking. Keep me posted on your banana growing successes!!! Charles :-)
Where can l get this type to buy?
When you break off the sucker pups, isn't that same as cutting the mother stock all the way down. I mean it's all touching soil
Interesting. So after 1 fruit bloom you cut the entire tree down or will the 50% remainder of the parent tree would produce again? Also, I noticed in the other video, while you dig through the mulch, you found some mold in the mulch. Is mold a good thing for banana trees? I heard other Gardner’s warn against it.
They only produce once then multiply.
Can the Ice Cream Banana grow in Zone 9a?
How to grow Lakatan banana its so sensitive
Hi Charles!! What is the name of those beautiful orange flowers?? They appear to be some sort of vine...please respond!!😊
I believe they are nasturtiums. The leaves and flowers are edible as well as the seed pods. You can get them in different colors. A girl like crazy here in California if you don't take care of them. I know for myself, I use them as sacrificial plant ( aphids usually go to them 1st) .They are very prolific.
I do not see the 6 macro+ anywhere
I lives in MO, can l grow Banana in this zone?
Does banana regrow after produce banana?
What zone are you. Quite impressive 👏. Your explanation very helpful
You can grow banana plants up to 7a- but to protect them in a harsh winter, put hay around them to keep in heat as much as you can!
So we’re growing them in Nc- check out The Millennial Gardener. He talks about the zones & he’s even growing all kinds of citrus trees & more you’d never think we can do. But in reality, many varieties are capable of handling a few days into the low teens or lower- but by using a heat lamp, plastic, and the hay, it can really assure your plants are okay. You’d also prob benefit to plant them where they’d get the most warmth during the day as long as the plant can handle that much sun
The inside of a banana “saba” specie is good for meat soup.
I see you are useing Acid ,do bananas prefure acid soil ? or what PH do they like
I’m not sure but I think they like slightly acidic soil maybe 6.7
Why are you putting the pups in a pot, why not back into the ground? How long do you plan to keep in the pot, when is ideal time to put back into the ground? How far apart should you plant your pups? Thanks!
I put mine in the blender and then in the ice cream maker...actually tastes like ice cream.
You should add some more water an rinse the fertilizer off the sides of the water can
Replant what you cut stock in bucket ok
