White Pony will be their high watermark for a lot of fans but this is definitely a contender, too. Especially if you only consider modern era Deftones.
Lol the expressions on your face are literally the same as when I first heard this track. Killer song. Very emotional and powerful. I'm a huge believer that Diamond Eyes is their opus. Deftones for life 🤘
This song is definitely a tribute to their bass player, Chi Cheng. The title could be simply a fav. movie as they grew up together watching it(?), maybe it could insinuate that the situation of his accident and coma is a form of Chino’s anger/perspective that God can be evil(?)
Was waiting for this reaction and you did not disappoint my friend! So glad to know that you like this song as much as you do! This whole album holds a special place in “Mi Corazon.” My wife and I were just about to tie the knot when “Diamond Eyes” dropped. Ironically they came to my city 3 days before our wedding and we were able to see them and get married in the same week! Mind blowing for even the biggest fan! Can’t wait for the rest of the album reaction! 💪🏼😎
Fantastic reaction! One of my favorite Deftones songs as well and I agree with you 100%, I love this sound from them the most. Would love for you to react to bands which I feel are similar, Karnivool, Periphery, Dead Letter Circus, I am Giant!
I believe this song was written by Chino for their original bassist Chi Cheng, who got into a car accident and was basically comatose for many years before he passed. RIP Chi
Still gonna request some deep cuts “the boys republic” and “smile”. “Teething “ for old school and what the hell how about “Crenshaw punch/I’ll throw rocks at you”
30 Seconds to Mars cited Deftones as an influence. But this particular song they may have returned the inspiration. I think you will love Risk and Diamond Eyes from the same album.
976 (Porn/sex/attraction) EVIL (I know you’re a succumbs but DAMN) is how I always thought of it. Gorgeous song and quite romantic if you think about it. Another Deftones song describes this, too: “You’re my girl, and that’s alright. If you sting me, I won’t mind.”
I believe both this song and the one preceding it on the album "Risk" are about their former bassist Chi Cheng who was in a coma at the time and sadly passed away years later. You could maybe interpret this as a relationship song as well, this is a little more vague than "Risk". Overall though, both make for a lovely tribute. You did call for more band recommendations, I left a lengthy one for Faith No More on a different video so I will throw out some different ones here Glassjaw (kind of thought of as the NY Deftones but a very distinct band all their own) Cosmopolitan Bloodloss Ape Dos Mil The Gilette Cavalcade of Sports Siberian Kiss Majour Piano Shira New White Extremity Far (another Sacramento band that came up Deftones) Mother Mary Bury White Wear It So Well Love American Style In the Aisle, Yelling Punchdrunk All Go Down Man Of The Year Failure (the 'Space Rock' pioneers) Stuck On You Another Space Song Solaris Magnified Undone Wet Gravity Something Golden Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode cover) The Smashing Pumpkins (alternative rock pioneers, influence on most all these bands) Cherub Rock Quiet Soma Siva Crush Zero Bodies 1979 X.Y.U Set The Ray To Jerry The Aeroplane Flies High Eye Perfect Daphne Descends Pug Stand Inside Your Love The Everlasting Gaze Tarantula Helmet (another alt-Rock pioneer) In The Meantime Unsung Better Wilma's Rainbow Milquetoast Street Crab Pure Exactly What You Wanted Birth Defect Sinatra (Deftones cover this song as well) Hum (the other space rock pioneers) Stars The Pod I Hate It Too Little Dipper Comin' Home If You Are To Bloom Green To Me The Dillinger Escape Plan (insane mathcore band, One of the best) The Mullet Burden Sugar Coated Sour 43% Burnt When Good Dogs Do Bad Things (w/ Mike Patton of Faith No More on vocals) Panasonic Youth Sunshine The Werewolf Setting Fire To Sleeping Giants Black Bubblegum Milk Lizard Mouth of Ghosts Farewell Mona Lisa Prance One of us is the Killer Limerent Death Cave In (started out Mathcore then moved into Space Rock, now is a mix of both) Moral Eclipse Halo of Flies Luminance Jupiter Big Riff Come Into Your Own Lost In The Air Inspire Anchor Youth Overrrided Off to Ruin Trepanning Retina Sees Rewind Sing My Loves Summit Fever Shake My Blood Winter Window I should probably stop for now lol
Top 3 Deftones song for me. Your reaction was my reaction first listen. Song puts one in a weird space. Not sad, mad…maybe some longing but a space where you can float.
Thank you very much for your reactions. I agree that Diamond Eyes is their best album, next to Koi No Yokan. If you do a top 10 list, it's tough not to pick a bunch of songs from those 2 albums. I really wish Gore and Ohms were more like them.. they're good albums.. but just not as catchy
JERSH. one critique I have (we've discussed stuff like this privately) is that I'd say to put your face on the left of the screen and the song icon on upper right. As stupid as it may sound, psychologically some people see that as a positive "looking into the future" thing. Just speaking from experience.
Also, since you asked, I'll repeat my recommendations for non-Deftones, non-Tool bands here. And this time I'll even include some song recs! I know, I know, Imma spoil you if I keep this up. *Nothingface* - If you wanna start in the shallow end: "Walking on Bodies" or "Dead Like Me". Deep end? "I Wish I Was a Communist" or "Here Come the Butchers" *dredg* - "Symbol Song", "Of the Room", or "Pariah" *Sevendust* - Oy, their catalog is massive but: "Denial", "Angel's Son", "Splinter", and "Dirty" are all perfectly fine places to start
This album has some real 80s alt pop flavours in it mixed with their style which gives it a unique feel. I love the album but always prefer Deftones when they are being melodic aswell as heavy. I can see how this doesn't sit well with everyone tho
This is their best album imo! Not a single bad song! Diamond Eyes, Risk, Beauty School, Rocket Skates, Prince...
Based
yea i been making stops to my local place i can find cds and finally listened to diamonds today, fucking amazing

White Pony will be their high watermark for a lot of fans but this is definitely a contender, too. Especially if you only consider modern era Deftones.
Diamond Eyes is great. But i think Koi No Yokan is even better.
One of my favs!!! Thanks for getting to it. Entombed....leathers.....mein
Lol the expressions on your face are literally the same as when I first heard this track. Killer song. Very emotional and powerful. I'm a huge believer that Diamond Eyes is their opus. Deftones for life 🤘
Two Deftones reactions in one day?! I feel like I have a birthday!
Deftones - No Ordinary Love, Deathblow, Risk, Teenager, Lhabia.
**holding a blood soaked machete in a hockey mask for friday the 13th** happy. birthday. 😂😂😂

wow i appreciate you taking the time to recommend such an extensive list!
You should do an album reaction to Diamond Eyes cause this whole album is dope.
i think by the end of the deftones reaction tour i'll have gotten to most of them, a lot of recommendations from this album haha
I really like this song, good reaction as always!
Top 3 Deftones song for me. Your reaction was my reaction first listen. Song puts one in a weird space. Not sad, mad…maybe some longing but a space where you can float.
Yes!!!!!!!!
You'd love to hear some KARNIVOOL
I couldn’t Imagine a world where the first time I heard this song I kept pausing it….😢
great content, would love to hear your reaction to ROYAL of the same album, one of my favs, cheers dude, keep it up!
He did Royal checkout all his reactions.
Type O Negative: Black Sabbath
insane how underrated this LP is
Do a reaction video to the song Ever by Team Sleep
You should check out the story of this album, is very amazing

Klone - Fog
It's okay to call them, "The Deftones." They call themselves that occasionally. It's only stupid fans that are Karen's about it.

i don't recognize your screen name from any DM's so not sure who you're messaging lol, but thanks for the advice :)

Please react to charlotte by kittie
This is the only album by them that I don't like. It just make me cringe song after song...but they're still may favorite band.
chemicalbrotha78 wow your the only person I’ve ever heard say that. Everyone has difficulty tastes though
@@DannyGrc Eh, what can ya do ...it be like that sometimes
This album has some real 80s alt pop flavours in it mixed with their style which gives it a unique feel. I love the album but always prefer Deftones when they are being melodic aswell as heavy. I can see how this doesn't sit well with everyone tho
This might be my favorite, or one of my favorite Deftones albums ever. Interesting...
you sound pretty bland lmfao
