Love Julie. A British treasure. Just been to see her incredible performance in Punch.
The issue over trans actors playing trans characters is not just about representation, but also because so many actors have played trans characters really badly, but that's not something that can be levelled at Julie who did a grand job. Thank you for the interview.
Lovely lady and actor.
❤️🙏🏼👏Luv luv luv this actress. From time.💐 Thx James & Julie 💕💖💗
What a brilliant interview😊👍 Julia is a wonderful person in all aspects. Thanks James for bringing this great conversation to us🙏😊

It's called acting. Actors take on roles. Instead of being rebalanced, the scales have tipped so far the other way we now have a more imbalanced society in how it is represented than we had before
like, yeah? but who plays what roles matters too. Julie being such a passionate, wonderful person changed who Haley Cropper was on screen.
@izzyhawkins3631 yes. Casting is so important and shouldn't also become a vehicle for imbalance. Hayley/Harold was a fantastic character and played brilliantly by Julie. Why should she deprive another (non trans) actress the opportunity (on merit) to play a similar role? All for the sake of 'progression'
What imbalance? How many trans actors do you actually see on telly?
@izzyhawkins3631 obviously more now, and on television in general. But this is not exclusive to trans, it's more of a wider point about maintaining equality, a meritocracy - whilst also understanding that things like proportional representation and historical accuracy are important
I don't think that what you're saying is important (which I agree, is important) is undermined by having trans people play trans roles?
Equality, yes! Proportional representation, yes! Meritocracy, yes! But advocating for trans people to play trans roles doesn't run counter to any of those ideals, in fact it reinforces them.

But such a small % of the population are transgender. There’s only 1% of the Scottish population that now speak Gaelic. Who defended that
