  • My first large miniature using The Army Painter's Speedpaint range. Building up layers and details and seeing how much the reactivation issue will hurt me!

    Those are absolutely gorgeous. Really nice seeing speed paints being taken to a level like this.

    Honestly would have not know about those later varnish tricks about Satin to metal, Gloss to eyes/Fingers & Matt to whole model. Could you do a video about little varnish tricks like that ? 🤔

    Awesome to see more ways to use Speedpaint. I’ve been testing mixing white to make pastel colours, whilst you are using a large quantity of medium to do a similar thing. Interesting and I’ll give it a go, thanks 😊 I post my experience with Speedpaint every few days on this channel, if you are interested then hope you enjoy.

      Nice! That how we got started. Neither Ben or I played but loved painting, so we bought a bunch of Warhammer miniatures. I (Mike) have since started playing Warhammer 40k, and it's quite fun :)

    This is a brilliant video. I always shy away from large models like this, but using Speedpaint and isolated dry brushing gives a really good result. Excellent work and thank you for your efforts 👍😊🖌️👏👌

    Post Covid-19 Friendship Applications; F'ing brilliant. As a contrast paint/speed paint/magic colour paint (all the same thing really) user it's hard to understand the importance of the reverse highlighting by starting with your light colors, then filling in the darker colors on top of them due to their opacity versus the "traditional" painting style where you start dark and end at the lighter effects, but I feel like this video displays that application VERY well. And if nothing else I tell my friends to stop buying colored metallics and just do the silver base colors and tint them with the speed paint/contrast paints; it gives you a much richer element than your standard colored metallics with a much higher amount of colors to use. I only have one quip about this video; I wish you would have done the blue armor in the same style as your gold metallics just to show case the practical applications of tinting metallics on a model versus what you typically see other youtuber's do "Here is an entire model I primed silver (hair, armor, sword, eyes, face) and here's one color of a speed paint on top of all of it"...when really that's not how any of us would use it, we would do the accent pieces as you displayed here with your gold. I totally get why you didn't do that - it matches the rest of your army so I respect that, but maybe one day you can incorporate it in a future model?

      @WatchItPaintIt  2 года назад +4

      Thanks for the comment man! I don't normally build up layers like this either, but there's a time and a place and I agree this dragon showed off why we might want to do this and have smoother transitions of the same colour. I'm with you on metallics too, this is almost always how I paint them now, so quick and really quite nice IMHO. Very good point about the armour, that would be really nice to see! I have some older Stormcast models, maybe I can do a one off to show off your blue metallic idea! I like it, I just know it'll make me twitch if I do it to any of the miniatures in my actual army :-D

      Ok I see now it is a running-gag. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no prude and enjoy inappropriate humor a lot, but I felt like the repeated sexual puns really detract from the quality of your painting and teaching.
      This is by far the best speedpaint video on RUclips and I was going to send it to my daughter who is a big dragon fan and wants to paint some dragon minis with me. I’m not sure I’m ready to explain what a glory hole is yet, though.
      Hope you take this as constructive criticism. I’m not trying to complain and greatly appreciate this video, otherwise :)

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  2 года назад +2

      I've considered this myself too, as I have two young children! It was a bit of a running joke, sort of amusing myself while I paint thinking of what sounds close :-D but I think this will be the last I do it. Sorry your daughter misses out on this one, but I have another huge dragon to paint and I might make a tutorial for it without the names!

    I had no idea you could achieve such an awesome gold using silver and speed paint, this is genius, thank you ! also, might I ask - the medium you use, is it just for lightening ? what would happen if I used water instead ?

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  2 года назад

      We did a video on mixing different mediums and water with speedpaints. Water works fine - it does thin the consistency more than medium, but that's about it. The color intensity of the speedpaints doesn't really change much until you're at around 50% dilution.

      Thanks! Hard to know for sure! I just enjoyed painting this one and time just slipped and flew by. I’d guess a handful of hours though, 2-3? Not including build time - that took ages.
