Can you only reserve seats online for the JR East Pass immediately after purchase or is this also possible online when purchasing the entire Japan Rail Pass?
You can also reserve seats online that are not covered by the type JR East Pass that you purchased. But only the JR East lines/trains and reserve seat from the JR East Website, as for the other JR West, JR Hokkaido and etc, you must go to their individual website to purchase their JR Pass and reserve their seats separately. And for the Nationwide JR Pass, it is a separate website - japanrailpass.net/en/
