      Not very smart on the part of your dentist as this will make customers less likely to want to return, and when they do it will be far less frequently due to the negative experience.
      I have had horrible hygeine all my life, but my dentist always tells me how amazing my teeth are (I don't have any cavities though, and I don't drink coffee, tea, and I don't smoke). That little bit of positive reinforcement actually makes me want to visit the dentist more frequently.

    I'm a dental hygienist therapist and honestly have NEVER seen a better video than this. It perfectly explains and demonstrates everything patients need to be aware of. Dr Chauhan did an amazing job with explaining all the essentials, only thing I would add to make the video more comprehensive is denture care / implant/bridge care advice.
    I try my best during appointments to condense all this info to my patients but unfortunately there's often just not enough time, will definitely be recommending this video a lot from now on !! Thank you :)

    What an informative video. I’ve only recently learned about spitting but not rinsing. I was brought up to spit and rinse - but my new dentist prescribed me some high fluoride toothpaste and the leaflet that came with it instructed me to leave the fluoride on my teeth for at least half an hour. I broke a tooth in lockdown and developed some cavities below old fillings that I am now having dealt with. I always saw my dentist regularly before lockdown and was quite embarrassed that I hadn’t been for over a year. when I was younger floss etc wasn’t so easily available. I’m still all fingers and thumbs when I try to floss and struggle reaching my back teeth. although I was taught about doing little circular motions I have only heard recently about the 45 degree angle. In lockdown I was a bit depressed too and didn’t always brush twice a day. It’s good to know that it’s never too late to learn new habits and set new goals even with oral care.

    • @lemonywater2979
      @lemonywater2979 3 года назад +11

      @@Heaeven But that is the whole truth. That is truly an issue, but people need to be aware of all their options before getting a toothbrush. The electric toothbrush route is the best for your teeth but not for the environment, and the bamboo toothbrush is the best for the environment but very dependent on you using the correct technique (which most people don't) so you might not get perfectly clean teeth every time. The environmentally friendly way is of course encouraged, but you can't not mention other options and lie by omission. The truth is not that black and white and being environmentally friendly requires more effort than the alternative. She's simply being honest.

    Handy tip that works for me and my ADHD. Brush your teeth before you shower, that's normally about 20 minutes for me, then mouthwash once you're out. It helps me not want to eat/drink/rinse out my mouth for the time the fluoride to work! So, *IF* you can, eat breakfast, floss, brush teeth, shower, mouthwash after if you'd like.

    Please take care of your teeth and make sure your children brush their teeth. I was difficult to get to brush, please do it for your children. My mouth hurts so much, I had a tooth removed and two wisdom teeth are almost completely rotted out. I drank so much whiskey for pain relief, I hope I never forget to brush again. I moved my toothbrush to my desk so I'm aware of it. It's been a massive improvement from no dental care. I hope to eliminate soda from my diet, I drink three liters a day. I can't believe my teeth aren't worse, I'm so grateful for the teeth I have.

    I have been brushing my teeth wrongly for the past 20 years. Thanks for providing such a detailed guidance on how to take care of our teeth! Can I check if I do not rinse my mouth after brushing, could there be some debris/plague that still remain in my mouth/on my teeth and will this be ok?

    • @ElectricTeeth
      @ElectricTeeth  2 года назад +2

      Hi Jeremy. Glad the video was helpful. Yes, technically if you don't rinse then there could be some debris/plaque left in the mouth/on the teeth. The vast majority of debris should have been removed by brushing/spitting. The physical act of brushing should have disrupted the chains of bacteria that build up and are most damaging.
      The small amounts that might well be left in the mouth shouldn't be anything to worry about. If you want to rinse a little later 30-60 mins after brushing) by all means do. It is just beneficial to leave the toothpaste on the teeth after brushing rather than rinsing it off.

      Most will have come out in the spit and on the bristles of the toothbrush. If you swallow some it is fine. The main thing is the chains of bacteria forming on the teeth and gums will have been broken up.

    Is this a tooth brushing video, or an environmental wellness video? I feel like after each section, we're reminded to be healthy to the environment. It's an excellent video. I feel like it would've been helpful to mention she was talking about the UK region, as there are some things that are harder to find in stores in the States. There are some things that are not 100% correct here, or, could be further clarified. There's a lot of data out there for what toothpastes to use, their method of action, active ingredients and who should use what. I like that she included the sort of 'best' practices of longevity for interdental brushes, no one really discusses that. I feel she could've mentioned specific ingredients one should look for when it comes to mouthwashes -- you ideally don't want mouthwash with alcohol, and should go for a mouthwash with xylitol. She keeps mentioning debris, but that's not what you're washing or trying to get out of your mouth. You're trying to brush out things you can't see to keep biofilm and plaque to a minimum.
    Despite my remarks, this is **freaking excellent** video, and I don't know how it doesn't have millions of views. An extremely great overview -- thank you for this :)

      Thank you for the comment Shahab. Really pleased you found the video useful.
      Without doubt there is regional variances in some of the advice and best tools etc. However, the general message should apply.
      We certainly could have included more and would like to go into more detail in the future. However, we wanted to as best as possible keep the video fairly snappy (even at the length it is). For most, if they follow this advice they are onto a path for good healthy teeth and gums. 👍

    • @meirgreenblatt
      @meirgreenblatt 2 года назад

      Yeah, I agree, I thought flossing is for food debris, but its not, it's for plaque removal and that is why its good to do it twice a day, since plaque becomes hard after about 12 hours.
      And the watar floss doesn't remove plaque.

    My mum used to work as a dentist assistant and taught us all about good oral hygiene. I always thought this was common knowledge, especially the basics like brushing, replacing tooth brushes, flossing...
    There also used to be dentists' visits in kindergarden and primary school every year to check and teach children...
    Why is this such a widespread topic on youtube? Aren't your dentists talking to you about proper care?
    Anyways, great video. Love to revise basic hygiene every now and then

    Why not floss after brushing? Wouldn't brushing after flossing also just recompact some pieces back into tooth gaps? Also, how do water floss tools compare to traditional thread-style ones?
    "A small 2018 study of two test groups showed flossing before brushing reduced whole plaque significantly more compared with those who brushed before flossing. Fluoride concentrations were also much higher in those who flossed first. But there wasn't a significant difference in marginal plaque between the two groups."

      Possibly, but the movement of the bristles is generally going to clean out the debris whilst also pushing the toothpaste into the gaps if you floss before.
      Our view is floss (thread style) is better than water flossing, because of the physical contact if makes with the teeth. But, water flossers are a great additional tool to use. Or an alternative if you really won't floss normally. The best tool is an interdental (go between) brush.

      @@ElectricTeeth Thanks. That also makes sense that flossing before, clears areas between the teeth to allow for better toothbrush access as well as toothpaste deposition. Good response.

    I wish I knew all of these earlier. I’m in my early 30s, with complete set of healthy straight teeth but surprisingly I just recently found out I have gum disease. Seriously people, consider your gum health too. See your dentist regularly coz the biggest mistake is having your pearly whites fall off because you neglected your gum health.
