In the Light has a very special significance.....coming of age story, and I'll leave it at that. This was a rare JPJ keyboard showcase. Those sounds are so memorable. I've always loved Bonham's performance on here. He's soooo on the back side with his time. When they go into the first section with full band, Bonham slows it way down, and it has so much swagger!
In The Light goes dark and light repeatedly throughout the song and Physical Graffiti is my favorite album from my favorite band. You can't go wrong with it. Thank you for another outstanding reaction Lee, you rock.
Critics loved bashing Led Zeppelin, thankfully fans took them to the top. In the beginning of In The Light, seems like someone suicidal or so down on their luck, & told things will get better & someone is always there for you. They were so talented & creative, you never know what you’ll get, out of their box of chocolates. They weren’t afraid to change things up, & do different genres, & do them to perfection. So many reasons they are the greatest band to ever walk the planet. Thank you once again for your reaction.
It's just amazing still how young they were to be writing music like that. It will never be recopied ever. And you, I really enjoy listening to you. You're very wise and appreciated to good music. Great job on your channel . Thank God for Zeppelin.
In the light and Ten years gone are the underappreciated gems of the album. No duds on the album at all but Kashmir and In my time of dying get the glory. The layering of guitars, the underpinning genius of JPJ, a vocal performance that equals his very best from Mr. Plant and Bonzo playing with taste and subtlety alongside his usual power and glory.
The very eastern section of Southern State Highway near Oakdale, 3 in the morning, severe fog, riding shotgun in my friend’s Porsche 944; with this song blasting in my ear. While being a blasted 19 yr old. In the Light’s riff is just the best.
To me, it never sounded "off" at the beginning, and actually that section repeats again right before the end, only in a short form, it just sounded fascinating and cool to me. But the reason it may sound that way to you is that they're trying to replicate the feeling of someone who is deeply depressed and quite possibly suicidal. I think they did a fantastic job. And then they offer hope as the song brightens up and things start shining through, as you say.
Omg, Lee, those last two songs on side three that you named coming up? Absolutely incredible Led Zeppelin songs. Even just hearing them in my head right now is giving me great pleasure.
The problem affecting musical criticism back then was that the music was growing and changing at such an exponential rate that it was hard for the critics to keep up and understand why a band might choose to go in a certain direction on something. And it turns out their audience is loving it and realizes how good it is. And then years later when they have the backdrop of musical history and evolution, suddenly they realize the real context of what the band or artist were doing, and it's either impressive in retrospect, or in some cases they end up getting blown away by later realization.
In the Light is a rare LZ venture into almost pure psychedelia, and done right. It would have been a GREAT live song, especially as an opener - a buzz start.
'In the Light' is another magnificently assembled composition, arrangement, set of performances. Jeez. 'Bron-y-Aur' is just lovely, pastoral, brief and done. Conjures something. Pictures, moods. 😊❤
Side three, (and four) of Physical Graffiti is still a hidden treasure to many. As teens I think it’s because we wore out sides one and two. Add “The Wanton Song” to this and Zeppelin’s range is immediately understandable. What separates Zeppelin from others is the absolute primacy Page displayed in their studio recordings. His talents are why we still listen… ✨
They are so good at provoking emotion in all of their music,,that's why the world loves them so much because music should grab us emotionally it's what makes them so great!
I enjoyed listening along with you on these, you don't explain yourself to please others, like so many reactors do. Song reactions work best if listeners are objective, and let the critiques be subjective. LZ spent an entire career ignoring these people, going as far as not packaging or even naming there bestselling album just to piss them off. They wanted to people to listen to the entire album, to try and feel and understand the music, as opposed to marketing their success in single releases, like so many folks did. They shunned tv appearances and most interviews, deciding instead to bring their music directly to their fans with an estimated 1000+ live shows, some lasting 4 hrs., and sending fans home with an experience to last a lifetime!
Thanks again Lee. Have so enjoyed your journey thus far. I know there must be a lot of effort and crap to deal with to get all of your videos out there. Your listens and responses are always insightful and very much appreciated to us who grew up with these songs!!
Mystical....you hit the nail on the head:) We were definitely in the right state of mind when we listened to this back in the day. We'd take a short trip and never leave the room 🤣 It worked for us:)
When I saw Plant and Page in the mid 90's they played In The Light. My girlfriend balled her eyes out. Something about Robert always gets to her. Incredible song!!😥😢😭👍😎
I’m jealous! I saw the unleaded tour in 95, and they played When the Levee Breaks, so there is that. I remember blasting In the Light in the Marine barracks when I was in Okinawa. Great song.
@@brianwacker9111Saw Unleaded twice and the Walking Through Clarksdale tour. Couldn't get enough. Wish P&P included John Paul. That sucked. Celebration Day in '07 was phenomenal. One of my go to dvds. They should of went on tour with Jason. They would of made a billion dollars!!!🎤🎹🥁🎸👍😎
This album Physical Graffiti is a Masterpiece album where every song on the album is a Masterpiece!!! It was received by the music critics of that(1977) as a "work of art" and Led Zeppelin's finest achievement. Physical Graffiti is the sixth album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. Released as a double album on 24 February 1975 in the United States and on 28 February 1975 in the United Kingdom, it was the group's first album to be released under their new label, Swan Song Records."This song In The Light," and "Kashmir," "Trampled Under Foot," "In My Time of Dying," and "Rover," are my absolute favorites....Hell I love ever inch of this album....This album established Led Zeppelin as one of the Greatest Rock n' Roll band ever along side of The Beatles. Just like Going For The One established YES as one of the greatest Prog band Ever!!! We are not going to get this excellent creativity in music history EVER!!! We do have some bands out there like "Tool," "Fall Out Boy," and October Blue that I have my eyes on....these bands still lack imagination of concept messages in music conveyed on albums and catchy riffs that places one's soul in ecstasy!!! btw your reactions are enjoyable!!!
It's prog! Or so it seems to me. This has become my favorite Zep song through listening to them for 48 years. (Well, I realized that after about 30 years.) Your analysis of it is fascinating. Thanks. Wow, when Bron-Y-Aur ends I SO MUCH want to hear the next song start right up. Can hardly wait until you hit that one.
It feels at this point like you absolutely should check out "In the Evening" on their final album In Through the Out Door before Bonham kicked the bucket. ❤
They are two of my favorite songs on the album. When I was studying classical guitar in college 28 years ago, my guitar instructor gave me the sheet music for Bron Y Aur and now it's one of my favorite pieces of music to play.
Lee, I loved your somewhat skeptical response at the beginning of "In the Light," which is my favorite LZ tune. I love Physical Graffiti because of the contributions of JPJ throughout. Great hat, btw.
This is my favourite led zeppelin album, I first heard it in the early 90’s and swore I’d heard it all as a child or in another life, that’s the effect it had on me Similar to The White album and Pink Floyd’s the wall
First time I heard this song I was 18 driving on the 405 in rush hour traffic and got so lost in the music the bumper to bumper traffic didn't bother me
It was shown to me also, L33, by my older brother and his friends in 1970's. You probably know way more about this music than I do because you have the world filling you in on the facts. This reminds me of my childhood too, That's why I love your video reviews and the discussions.
In the Light is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. JPJ is brilliant. Physical Graffiti is a great album, especially for one that was made up of leftovers.
Little advice: go and see/hear how frightening "In the Light" sounds in the ending section of "Mindhunter", season 1 finale (episode 10). One of the most disturbing and outstanding TV pieces of all times!!! Thx David Fincher, and of course thx the best rock band ever. Marco from Italy.
In The Light was eventually performed live - when JP teamed up with The Black Crowes. With so many guitar overdubs, LZ would've had a hard time doing it justice on stage.
I've been trying lately to hear associations between this albums' songs and the songs on the previous albums from the years these songs were recorded. I don't think I've come up with much, and I think that may be because Zep created such a variety of musical styles in their work after their first two albums that everything just sounds like Zep. By Physical Graffiti, you should be used to different. The next 2 albums will really test your idea of different. I loved your observation about the change in mood for In the Light...after 30 years i had never noticed that but God i'm unobservant so thank you. Love your reactions mate...can't wait to hear u react to Presence.
You got it right about the spiritual, otherworldly. Pagan would be right too. Page was practicing black magic, Plant white magic. Or at least that is the common belief. When I was first listening to Led Zeppelin, This album wasn't high on my list, some songs were. I'd occasionally put it on, skip some songs, then go to another album, which I might then play 2, 3 times in one day. It was very different from their earlier albums. But slowly over a period of time, I grew to appreciate the album and their talent. Houses of The Holy was similar.
This is why we all love Led Zeppelin!
And have always thought they were THE best.

Yes, it's thebest of all of their great albums!
Led Zeppelin, no comments, one of the most important bands that influenced many great bands. This album is a masterpiece.
There's a lot more of the unexpected to come from subsequent albums. Lucky you!
This song has brought me back from the brink more than once.
I’m glad it did.
The best drumming. The best fills. No one like Bonham.
In the light is my favourite Zeppelin track
The Riff Master in full force.
The best rock band ever
Zep are their own genre
Critics loved bashing Led Zeppelin, thankfully fans took them to the top. Yup. ❤
Pure talent.
You've found the True Mother-load of fantastic music. Enjoy. I have for over 50 yrs. 😊
In The Light is pretty much my fave Zep track.
DEEP CUTS RULE...! Best tunes were never on the radio... except WBCN
Only FM stations. 😊
Absolutely true. I grew up listening to 'BCN and radio like that doesn't exist anymore.
Thanks dude! You're the best. No, I mean it. You're the best reactor out there. Wise beyond your years.
I concur. He deserves way more views than he gets.
To see Led Zeppelin perform is to witness the Thunder Of The Gods. They were spellbinding.
Unsettling is the word!
"To the very depths of my soul." Exactly how they make me feel.
In the light, I've aways loved that track, it's a masterpiece 👌
It's just amazing still how young they were to be writing music like that. It will never be recopied ever. And you, I really enjoy listening to you. You're very wise and appreciated to good music. Great job on your channel .
Thank God for Zeppelin.
In the Light is one of their best. This entire record is one of their best! Everyone loves Zeppelin, and songs like this are why.
Jimmy Page, Acoustic.......Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!
I love also Ten Years Gone so much.
I have seen Zeppelin perform In The Light live.

The layering of guitars, the underpinning genius of JPJ, a vocal performance that equals his very best from Mr. Plant and Bonzo playing with taste and subtlety alongside his usual power and glory.
When Jimmy talks about "Light & Shade" this is a Perfect example.... "In The Light"
“In The Light”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Mighty Zep
In the light should be played at max volume to be fully appreciated
This is pure talent and innovation!
And Jimmy, Acoustic Wowwww!!!!

It's too bad they never played "In the Light" in concert. You're right - it would have been a great walkon song.
'In the Light' is another magnificently assembled composition, arrangement, set of performances. Jeez.

Jimmy Page ❤ he was spellbinding just by himself.
Jimmy with a 12 string acoustic in his hands was magic.
My favorite LZ album .. it's all great

In The Light is one of faves, but the two other tracks on this side might be even better. Three of their best!
Wore this cassette out, imagine this on full blast in a Two seater small pick-up, it was fucking awesome
Thanks again Lee. Have so enjoyed your journey thus far. I know there must be a lot of effort and crap to deal with to get all of your videos out there. Your listens and responses are always insightful and very much appreciated to us who grew up with these songs!!
Yeah I remember buying this the first day you came out I couldn't wait to get this home to listen
One of three studio tracks where Jimmy bows the guitar....this song during the intro.
Mystical....you hit the nail on the head:) We were definitely in the right state of mind when we listened to this back in the day. We'd take a short trip and never leave the room 🤣 It worked for us:)

Definitely more experimental
Great❤

Lee, I loved your somewhat skeptical response at the beginning of "In the Light," which is my favorite LZ tune. I love Physical Graffiti because of the contributions of JPJ throughout. Great hat, btw.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It's a moody one and it just hits me in the feels.
Underrated album and underrated song. Interesting fact. This building in New York actually only has 3 floors. They "photoshopped" on the 4th floor.
Actually it has 5 stories. They just lopped one off and reattached the top.
It has 5 floors. The 4th floor was cropped out to fit the album cover. Peace.
This is my favourite led zeppelin album, I first heard it in the early 90’s and swore I’d heard it all as a child or in another life, that’s the effect it had on me
Similar to The White album and Pink Floyd’s the wall

Saw Jimmy in the eighties, outlander tour, then with Robert Plant years later, they had the Egyptian orchestra with them
In the light is my favorite Zep tune. Cheers bro
Bron-Y-Aur 👍
What a shame they never played it live.

In the Light is my favorite off this album. Then Kashmir
Very atmospheric - like we were in a Scottish misty glen.
both of these are a masterpieces BUT Jimmy Page on Brin - Y - Aur is as good as it gets
Hey Lee! One of my favorite albums by ZEPPELIN. In The Light kicks total ass!!!! What time is it? Time to get The Led out❣️❣️❣️👍😎
In The Light. Need I say more? If I had the words…
Great tune ❤

To quote John Lennon about a totally different thing but applicable to zep..."some kind of druid dudes liftin' the veil."
It sounds like one of your channels were all distorted, the sound was gurgley.

Bron - Y - Aur in the movie
Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
After hearing Bron-Yr-Aur, I had to stop and listen to Down By the Seaside because one without the other is just not in harmony with the cosmic order.
I have been listening to Zeppelin since 1969, check out Tea for one ❤
