I've done this recipe several times and often use just 1/4 cup cocoa (4 Tbsp) which I find sufficient to give the chocolatey flavour and colour to the champorado. But imho it depends a lot on the quality of the cocoa you're using . I used a very dark and rich dutch processed cocoa so didn't need to use much.
@bebopalulababy its the contrast between the sweet and the salty . it gives your mouth a break from the sweetness overload . i myself just made some champorado, not homemade though, white king brand . ooooh what id give to have some dillis or tuyo with my champorado right now XD
I love champorado. my grandma makes it but with hot chocolate powder so its a lot lighter brown and no sugar. Ill try with the cocao powder though since it barely has any calories and like no sugar, then use natural sweeteners
@oranges623 Not everyone puts milk in the champorado while cooking it, usually they put it AFTER it's done cooking. Plus, it's suppose to be black - brown, not WHITE. If that's what you like.
I never could understand how dried fish goes with champorado.

This is one of my favorite especially when its raining outside. It's really sweet and others also eat this with dried fish. Very authentic!

I think you can use calros or medium grain rice or arborio/risotto rice if you don't have malagkit.
