It feels like tomorrow when you released your first tutorial. For me, that video is still the best one you've ever created. At that time, I was going through one of the darkest moments of my life. But then, one day, I stumbled upon your video. The port scene, with its subtle music, brought me so much joy. It was like a balm for my soul. It was as if for couple of seconds time stood still, and everything else just faded away. I can't put into words how much that scene meant to me. Just a few weeks ago, I revisited that same video, and I still felt the same joy and serenity I had experienced before. So much peace For the past week, I've been finally learning Blender. As a beginner, I've found your videos to be incredibly inspiring. Watching your creations, I'm filled with a sense of awe and wonder. One day, I hope to create scenes as epic and beautiful as yours. Thank you for providing such incredible content and making it available for free. I hope your channel continues to grow and reach even more people. You have a gift for creating not just art, but moments of pure joy and peace. Keep on posting, and have a wonderful day!
Man this is the most touching comment I've ever had. Thanks so much for appreciating that old port breakdown. For me it was the good old days when Blender was just a fun hobby and when I simply made good scenes from pure inspiration, uploading chill breakdowns to a then small channel with no goals. Now 3d is turning more into a career in which my creations and videos need to be more mainstream, likable and able to keep the lights on. But I am very keen on bringing back that serine energy and I recognise how special it is. I'm glad that video was able to lift you in the way you've beautifully described, it's probably just the piano soundtrack haha. I'm also glad you're able to begin your Blender journey and take awe and inspiration just like I did back then. Oh, and that one day where you're hoping to create scenes as epic and beautiful? You will find that day will come by sooner than you think, as in this field you only to get proficient enough and know how the tool works, the rest is about using that tool for to unlock your full creative potential. Feel free to send future comments for any updates, I'll be glad to here them. Good luck on your journey!
Hey I know im late with my opinion but maybe (hopefully) you see this! I think it is a brilliant, great tutorial you did awesome work. But as a beginner I feel like you dont show enaugh how you edit the textures with the shading settings and I would love to see how you seperated the mirrored helmet and edited it so it reflects your environment! This are the things I really cant find on youtube anywhere and would be great if you made a small video about it! Keep up the good work and have a great day!
Hey thanks for the feedback! And yeah I definitely have room to improve on my tutorials, and you're right some of those small steps are super valuble for beginners. But to be honest I feel like no tutorial will be perfect as I can't satisfy all beginners, amateurs and experts at the same time, even when producing a short 4 minute video along side a 30 minute extended tutorial. It's sort of a compromise playground I have to play with where I just have to be direct and realize most of my audience are amateurs who knows a thing or two, but still attempt to make it beginner friendly. As for your question, the helmet part was very easy, so we obviously want to turn the helmet from solid back to full metallic reflective like a mirror. I selected the main astronaut mesh, went into edit mode, hovered my mouse over the helmet and pressed the 'L' key to automatically select the 'linked' helmet mesh, then with it selected I pressed 'P' to bring up seperation options and followed up with 'seperate by selection'. And boom done, by that point that point I can remove the original material from it and replace it with a new reflective one.
@@Regoliste I sure do understand that you cannot satisfy every need and need to make it a compromise for everyone! Thanks again for the tutorial and your fast reply and your help about my questions! Only one question is left. My butterfly is not glowing. I followed your steps and also figured out what shading options you used but it still isnt working. Its just a texture and the emission is somehow not working. Thanks! Never mind i had emission strength at zero 😂😅 Sorry for wasting your time
Hi! I really like your tutorial! The final product is really cool! I do have one question though. For the butterfly animation, how did you get them all to turn to the left? For me they are all turned to the right and I don't quite know why! If you know can you please tell me? Thank you in advance!
hi there was also wondering can you go more in dept about the shading and camera positions I feel like I'm have a hard time with the camera! Great content
Hey! Have you checked out the extended tutorial of this? It's linked in the description and goes pretty much into every detail on how I built up the scene.
Hey please can you tell me where to start learning on animation for complete beginners, I would really like to be able to make videos like yours. I'm not 18 yet if that's necessary
Blender is very easy to get started with. Look up beginner tutorials on youtube and you will find hundreds of approchable videos that guide you to make your first cool project. From there you think of your own projects and find tutorials on any specific tool to achieve your goals. Get the basics of modelling, shading, lighting and rendering. Hope this helps.
Hello, first of all, thank you for this wonderful tutorial. However, I have a major issue right from the beginning of the tutorial. When I import the astronaut, the skeleton of the character is facing forward instead of aligning with the character's limbs. Do you know where the problem is coming from and how I can fix t? Thank you very much. I'm waiting for your response so that I can proceed to the next steps 😔
Hey try investigating your import settings when importing the GLB file. Importing models and characters is one the fundamental aspects of asset composition so if you're having trouble at the beginning of the video, I'd recommend taking a step back to familiarize yourself with how to import a variety of 3d files before continuing, either by experimenting or looking up specific tutorials, best of luck!
Rendering seperate layers usually only works for foreground and background. This project has all the elements in one 3d space so it would be very difficult unless you got into material render passes. Why would you want to render them seperately anyways?
If i buy laptop “if it for laptop tho” my first work is to make a very big project that up to 10 min I don’t care how long it take to learn or creating,i just need to create an animation 😄
Great tutorial, i am having a problem while creating butterfly particle system when i add the butterfly collection inside instance collection, the butterflies are placed vertically instead of horizontally pls help
The particle instances are based off your original butterfly collection, including their rotation, so make sure you apply the rotations in the collection, you can even edit the collection to be upside down or horizontal in edit mode as long as the particle one looks right. Next make sure to really play with the advanced rotation settings, choosing from global x y or z, and also slide the phase value around until your butterflies are correctly horizontal, hope this helps.
Hey, you can bring in any image by importing the image as planes in the add feature, or if you're interested in adding an image as an world texture like in the video, you can do that in the world shading editor and connect an image texture to the background as seen at 9:15
did you activate something to have the reflections or brightness of the light of the butterfly? It is difficult to get it in cycles and I didn't see that you have made any changes in the render settings
The glow of the butterflies is an effect I apply in post processing along with my color grading, I specifically use after effects and their glow effects, but you can recreate the effect in blender's compositor with the glare node
hey, im trying to learn blender so i started following your tutorial, however i have one problem that i cant seem to figure out, whenever i place a spotlight it is connected to the astronaut which makes him all glitchy with my animations. Do you guys have any solutions ? thank you :)
Hey there! It's pretty hard to understand what kind of problem you're facing from the limited info so maybe you'll need to be more specific, but in general just make sure the spotlight isn't parented to the astronaut, position it above the scene and simply follow the tutorial correctly, hope this helps.

Great tutorial! For the butterfly animation you could have also keyframed the shape keys for one animation and used the cycles modifier. Cheers

Your butterfly probably only has one face, extruding, bevelling or applying a solidify modifier can thicken it up.
