  • Fly fishing with the best strike indicator rig set up! This method was introduced to me from Red's Fly Shop. This is great for the Euro Nymph rig set up when you just can't quite hit the water you want. It works best with smaller flies - not as well for larger flies.
Joe from Red's Fly Shop explains it all in this blog article on how to set this up plus their awesome video on it where he shows you exactly how to fish it:

If you hit their link - definitely click around their videos... they put some awesome content out!
As always check your local regulations before fishing any water. This section I fished was in January 2021 and was open at that time.

Looks like a great method. Reds is also so knowledgeable. I live south and have never been on the Snoqualmie. What area is open in Fall and winter? Good for steelhead and cutty?

Agreed - Red's Fly Shop is awesome for certain! For steelhead, I think other rivers would give you better options (if they are open) but for the Snoqualmie...*Check regulations first (as always) but the middle fork of the Snoqualmie is open year-round for native rainbow and West Slope cutthroat trout fishing. The south and north forks are *generally open from June 1 st to October 31st and generally, C&R. Fishing regulations are subject to emergency closures and they change from year to year, so before you go, know what you are fishing for and always *check the regs: wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/.
Targeting steelhead from the confluence with the Skykomish near Monroe to the boat ramp at Plum access near the town of Snoqualmie, the Snoqualmie River is *generally open from June 1st until January 31st, and from the boat ramp at Plum access to the falls from June 1st until February 15th.
Targeting steelhead from the confluence with the Skykomish near Monroe to the boat ramp at Plum access near the town of Snoqualmie, the Snoqualmie River is *generally open from September 1st until December 31st. As for Steelhead - they are few and far between now... (sigh) unfortunately.
Thanks for watching and commenting - I appreciate it! tight lines! 🎣

Thanks for the info! I do a lot of dry fly and some streamer swinging. Maybe resident bows and cuts would make fun practice with this nymph method. I will definitely watch regs. Thanks

Depends on what you are fishing for? For Shad they have spread out all over the river now - and the striped bass are in now too. I usually fish all of the parks with access points… you can’t go wrong 🎣
