This is the perfect format for you (I think fwiw lol) good length, enough detail but still let’s you get on with the job. Beautiful job too mate! You’ve probably just saved 500 standard perfect bonnets from sims!
I'm not a sheetmetal worker but I have done this. When they were tacked in I cut all the way around the pressing and peeled it up and made it a high rise bonnet, was easy, can send pics to anyone wants to see
I wish more people knew how to do this type of work, at the very least your video has shown them just how much work is involved and the skill required. As a panel shop owner of 30 years i have to say to you, very well done.
Nice work Graham! Another successful job pulled off! Two of my favourite quotes in relation to being confident and good at something are; Excellence is not a singular act but a habit, we are good at what we do repeatedly and repetition is mother of all skills 😊
Hi graham People are giving you stuff , that is the genuine Aussie thing to do All Aussies are really very caring and giving people that’s our way I would give you stuff if I had any old ford crap but my fords are plastic bumper ones So I don’t have anything So keep up the good work it is really impressive to watch When I was a wee little tacker I wanted to be a panel beater spray painter but wasn’t able to get an apprenticeship So I ended up being a carpenter and did painting on weekends as a hobby which is still what I do today So I look at you and think I could have learned that 😢😢 Anyway on my EF I have a gt bonnet scoop but don’t know we’re to cut the hole in the bonnet Any suggestions cheers 👍👍👍
Another way to do it would be to cut the bulge out of a donor bonnet, flip them over and put them in the opposite side cut out. if you weld temporary tabs for the donor part to rest on as you weld it in place. make sure you've got enough cut out for the scoop to fit in but not so much that you can't hand suage around the resultant hole for the scoop to fit flush with the surface, just a thought in case a person didn't have access to the factory recesses or a donor bonnet, just a suggestion. what you're doin' looks good, but what I wrote might work as a possible second method.
Neat! And you saw that the factory has common parts between the two different models! The American makers did that same thing! And patina is sometimes just that touch of perfection! My 55 Chevy is original paint and they’re only original once!
don't know if anyone is making those panels yet but I enjoyed the video. I got a standard bonnet on my ute I might have a go at it if I can find the panels. That's going to be the problem I think
Like your work .In 1982 I lived in Perth and it seemed the ford scoops in holden bonnets was very popular mod .The strangest one I saw was an eh holden with a 76 I think pontiac nose grafted on and those falcon bonnet scoops as well not sure if someone was making scoops or they were genuine .
When I've changed the frame of a bonnet I've always turfed the extra metal plates as they are only held in with one spot weld, there's a bloke over here will convert standard xa bonnet into a gt one for 200 bucks, or will just press in bonnet pins for 80, he has made up the dies and template does a fantastic job next time I see him I'll get him to investigate if it could be done to xb xc
as far as im aware no one makes XB XC gs bonnet inserts and their is a huge demand for them, someone needs to make them!! I've seen the work from the chap who does the xa gt bonnets his work is amazing

Hey Graham can i ask , I have a pair of XB bonnet scoops with broken studs how do i get them out ? are they threaded in or pressed, and do you know if anyone sells after market studs. Much appreciated Duncan Cameron.
long long ago in the before times the scoops were only held in with small flat nuts on the pins but they break off over the years if they are undone and the scoops wont come out you'll likely find someone has glued them in
@@xacoupeguy Any ideas where I could get the studs from and could i spot weld them in ? ps love your videos esp. as im an Adelaide boy originally to ! Too many East Coasters on youtube 😂
nice job on the scoops graham i remember a guy i had paint my car back in 81 he loved those bonnets he was mad on xb's he did a similar cut and butt but he left it as one big square section and welded it in as one piece right to the front folded edge went in pretty good as well i remember people grafting the whole skin on to EH HR bonnets ugliest thing i ever seen i remember saying to one guy how ugly i thought it was he got a bit mouthy lol
how far out are the standard sections from going left to right upside down(and vice versa) in a home made GS bonnet? too far to even bother with i guess
@@xacoupeguy the green sections you cut out, if you flipped it upside down and placed it on the other side, would it make a scoop.. or does the left piece you cut out, lay in the right side "new scoop" when upside down.

100 percent true about welding between two welds that close, plus is more likely to have a hole/crater to fill. Great stuff.

The lone bonnet remove tip I can give is pop off the springs and throw a beanbag on the air cleaner lower the bonnet and take out the last 2 bolts.
