I am looking forward to your in-depth review. So far I had a few hours with the D9 in QM and some dirty fun on Berloga, but I think it is quite a remarkable plane: - very fast - very good elevator authority in fast dives - climbs remarkably well - cooling cowlings can be kept close for a very long time - can climb easily to 9-10k (seems to ceil at 11+k) - exceptional armament (well centerlined) - reasonable maneuverability (not a Spit of course) - good acceleration (although the K-4 "feels" better in that area) I am curious if you come to similar conclusions. And I am looking forward to the upcoming Allied additions (Tempest, P-38, P-51). But above all things, I am looking forward to the Bodenplatte map. It will include my hometown :)
this well summed up. Probably the best aircraft in the sim right now. And this wont change with the additions probably. And my hometown is on the map too.
The tempest will be slightly faster on the deck, will climb a bit better up to 2km. The Dora will be have a better instantaneous turn, about equal sustained turn, will roll much quicker. the dora will much faster higher up and will climb much better there. This are only my presumptions and expectations.
@@SheriffsSimShack Well, the Tempest *could* be quite a handful, if it is indeed the Mk V. Then it will be a good opponent at the altitudes relevant on current servers (rarely over 5-6k). As for the P-51, it might turn out, that their pilots all fly alone and out-of-the-game at 8+k...
@@KB4th I wish I could, but unfortunately I deleted it shortly after I realized there was no audio. The fight was like 10 mins long (sheriff showed up late) and I never killed any of them and that plus the zero audio issue... I just didn't think to keep it. Too bad.
@DontActDumb The P-47 is a bit slow, not very maneuvrable and takes ages to climb but once you got altitude you can dive on your preys using gravity to your advantage its okay. That being said the Dora is probably better up there and actually both the spit mk IX and the P-47 are a bit underpowered to deal with the K4 and the Dora right now, that is of course unless they have an altitude advantage. I'm waiting for a P-51 and a Tempest to play more of this also I think we might get a premium Griffon Spitfire to buy later which would be much better than this poor spit that gets rather easily outrunned by the G 14, only the FW 190 A8 of course doesnt outperforms anything but nobody really flies it.
@@mojoe87 You know I can also get a lot of kills with an I-16 against BF 109F4s if they fly like idiots that doesn't mean the mk IX isn't outclassed by the current German planeset.
Usually I know the predecessors in and out and often can say something about the basics. Other than that I just read up about aircraft here forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/25993-aircraft-flight-and-technical-specifications-and-operational-details/ For radiator settings and stuff I just test the aircraft in SP combat missions and try different settings.
@@SheriffsSimShack Ah so its just a normal one. I was increasingly confused because as far as I know german planes didn't have super and turbochargers like American ones.
@@1MinuteGaming The 109 has fluid coupling, but that is still a super charger after all and has of course as well an air intake. Often the american planes have the intake elsewhere.
How hard is it to get into this game really? For advice purposes I have played some flight sims before, and am fairly knowledgeable about the wwii era planes (mostly accredited to war thunder igniting and unknown interest I had in aircraft of that time) I would also be open to recommendations on a flight stick etc.
On top of the game engine are 2 machine guns and the cowling is fashioned around them, on the side of the engine is the supercharger air intact, the engine is a straight inline type and it is round due to the radiator which is at the front of the engine behind the propeller.
I don't know. It is common for virtual pilots to pull more Gs than a real pilot would have done, because they don't feel the acceleration. Of course ingame the wings always seem to break at the same points, which makes it seem less organic, but if you watch videos of the impact of cannon rounds, I think it is reasonable to say that several hits on a wing by a 20mm HE round would destroy that wing.
I think it's the best it has ever been since the last patch cycle, feels just right to me, as mentioned, they come off dynamically under different load depending on damage.
@@SheriffsSimShack I wont dispute the power of some 20mm Minen rounds, but I never saw real gun cam vids who showed blow off wings, except from bombers.
The FW190 was odd because it was very advanced in some ways and bloody primitive in others. For example, you could not adjust the control surfaces in flight like most every other fighter by 1944. The trim tabs were fixed and had to be adjusted (by bending the tab with a mallet and block of wood) on the ground. The pilot would test fly the plane, see if it was pitching or yawing in whatever directions, and then the ground crew would make the adjustment. But you could not do this in flight to make up for changes in centre of gravity due to emptying fuel tanks, dropping ordinance and firing ammo.
I think u misunderstood some things. What is correct that the Fw has no trimable (in flight) control surfaces. However the Fw has a fully adjustable horizontal stabiliser, not just a tiny tab. And this is doable in flight. So you can adjust for changes of the CG like burned fuel, expended ammo, bombs etc. you can easily adjust the stab and its much more effective than a trim tab. The Fw has no possibility to trim the vertical and longitudinal axis, that is correct.
Cool post thanks ! I read somewhere the Kurt Tank tried to hand a jet on the front od this design but it didn't work out and when with something else. Might have ended up with something the Russians used during the 1940's and 1950's . Check it out at 13:24 . ruclips.net/video/inOKZ7kIRnA/видео.html
Sheriff did you notice that this dora isn't actualy as fast as the game specification and oh not to mention the climb rate. I did aome test and is missing somthing like 10 km/h. The k4 is way more fast and has a better climbe rate. If you would like to do some conparios test between these planes and other you will see that there are some mistakes
I tested the Dora throughly and found that it meets perfectly the proclaimed performance, in the conditions where the aircaft got tested. The Dora has a bug at the moment tho. The MW50 does not work in winter and other cold conditions. That the K-4 clmbs better is no wonder as it should climb better.
The Dora reaches the speeds that are written in the specs in my tests and in the test many other people have done. Be sure to test on the autumn map and set the stabilizer trim all the way down. That seems to be the recipe to get that 605 km/h speed at SL.
Thanks guys well i have the felling that sometimes will climing with dora it goes ferom emergency power to combat power with bost on. It might be because it still has some bugs?
@@luciandoniga3014 That is more due the fact that the engine loses momentarly power as the first stage of the supercharger loses effectiveness. And later the 2nd stages kicks in and brings back the high boost. that is normal. However, this effect can be bigger than usual due to the current bug. When you check real level speed charts of the Doras you can see the speed decrease due to this effect. There is a dent in it.
