I look forward to this, former Texas steam, locomotive excursion star returning to service. She is one of three of the four surviving examples of the SP MK-5 mikado reside in Texas with the exception of 745 which is in Louisiana undergoing a similar restoration. As for the other two locomotives, sister locomotive 794 is on static display at Sunset Station in San Antonio Texas engine 771 resides in Grapevine, Texas next to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad engine shop
She is going to run again according to the Austin steam train association. They have been working hard on her restoration Their website offers updates on the status the 786 restoration as well as the restoration on Alco RSD15 alligator locomotive number 442.
Actually it's early summer 1997. No dog house on the tender and 1431 crossing had the cantilevers ripped off during the tornado That came through in May of 1997. They repainted the P70's in '96 or '97.

@@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyantrue, but it be nice to see a more recent update
@@TGM_2018_III yeah I noticed that too that there hasn’t been an update for 2023
Great Stuff! Always nice to see new footage of 786 while it was operating. I like having the radio chatter included in some of the shots too
It's amazing to see how much cedar Park has changed over the years. I almost didn't recognize it cuz the H-E-B ain't there and neither is wild west.
This had to be a very early trip with 786...like 1992 or so...
Back when 786 was operational, were steam excursions a weekly occurrence like the diesel ones with ASTA Today?
Yes
Fridays we went to Austin with steam
Sat & Sun to Burnet with steam
I want a status report on Southern Pacific 786 please
This is the website for status

All they need is money and volunteers
