Love that whistle! Just like the old Northwestern Pacific (a SP subsidiary) locos I used to hear many years ago in northern California! Hope they don't change the whistle when they finish the restoration.
Awesome footage! I had to do a triple-take before I realized that the shot at 4:03 is actually McNeil interlocker.. crazy how much things change over time. It's also great to hear that the pieces are finally coming back together now for reassembly
Still getting reassembled, I hate how little funds the ASTA gets, its all just so sad. I really hope to get to see her run someday, as the MK-5 mikado is my favorite steam locomotive.
Does anyone know when the SP 786 is going to be back in operation? Because I checked the website and it says that it was supposed to be rebuilt and back into operation in 2018.

One of 786’s sister engines is local to me. The engine in question is 745. I love SP steam.
If this thing ever makes it back I will be out probably every time it runs.
Thanks! The boiler and frame will be back this year. Not sure when the loco will be back in service though
Southern Pacific 2-8-2 No. 786.

Does the ASTA have the caboose @ 3:48? Nice video by the way.
It belongs to a private owner. It is currently in Temple Texas.

According to their site, they’re working on the locomotive. I’m visiting in a couple weeks, so I’ll ask and report back.
Do you have a date for this video?
This was taken in about 1992 or early 1993. I will have to look back at the dates on the video.
What kind of whistle does she have in this video?
+Cameron Johnston Sounds like the beautiful Southern Pacific 6 chime
