Love my new Tribex Perfect for our type of production Finally can discard my three foot monopod Your video is the best breakdown of all the how-tos Thank you!
Would you say the pan&tilt is premium? I happened to returned mine because the pan&tilt ended up having an irritating, fraction-of-a-second delay, when trying to to steadily readjust frame for a stopping and moving subject 🤦🏽♂️ I’m Shooting only an r5-c, no monitor
I hope so desesperately that they will make a version which can go higher to 1,7m (without head), without the center column (that is quite fragile, not so pro, and since i put a slider on it, you loose a lot of balance with the center collumn at the top). I'm okay with a longer storage lenght. And also with a 75mm bowl. that would be the PERFECT tripod. i'm tired of unlocking and locking each legs at the bottom of my tripod.
For the tripod head unscrewing itself, some have little grub screws underneath when you remove it from the bowl to lock the head in. Does this have them? I think I see them at 14:20 try tighten them down. Also, for counter balance, it looks like your rig is quite vertical which would move your rigs centre of gravity and put attentional stress onto the counter balance system. You could try to bring everything in closer to the centre and then ensure the tripod is sitting right in the middle of the cameras balancing point.
@Ryan-Payne interesting, I'll check for those grub screws. As for the counter balance, yes, I do believe the fact that it's fairly tall doesn't help, and adjusting where the rig sits front to back does definitely make a difference. So I probably could make it work, but I'd have to get it pretty much perfect front to back to make that happen. If I figure something out I might mention it in a future video
@@DroseMr I don't know if there's a list of spreaders that fit, I would imagine the Smallrig ground spreaders from their higher end tripods would work. I'm not sure though
But what happens when the hydraulics fail? They never last forever? Are they going to replace it when it fails inside of a year or two? If not you're out 800 bucks. Also with no extra mounting screws for the head besides the main mounting screw to secure it from twisting off, that is a definite design flaw. At this price point they should have included that. So Smallrig Tripods and Heads are now a no go for me. I had different head and it ran into the unscrewing issue with the panning motion.
@BurlapandLight I have no idea about how long the legs will last or what would happen if the mechanism fails. But the whole head coming unscrewed thing isn't an issue if you tighten the grub screws on the bottom of the head. Somebody commented about that and they were right, I tightened them and it's no longer an issue
@HezJP it's great, I've had no issues with it and it makes things a lot easier. I actually made a video about it if you want to know more. And yes I power the camera through USB-C
@@itmeremythanks!! I just had a ZGCINE plate fry my FX30 after about 2 years, the plates USB C port shorted and smoked the cam. I picked up the KB so hoping for quality and no issues…
Just one screw-in spike per leg is a must for dense grass. Otherwise it will not dig into the ground and will wobble. This serious flaw just kills this beautiful idea. I hope Smallrig will address this. Thank you for your review.
@SuperSuperka I doubt they will, they've been using this foot design in all their tripods lately with the removable feet to reveal the 2 spikes underneath. If stability is an issue, you could always tie it down or weigh it down using the hook in the centre column
@@itmeremy I know about hooking, but in reality it's not good either. Still not stable enough. Not good at hills, ah high dense grass, not good because you may need to reach backpack while filming - adding shake. Thank you!
@MrUrbansoul98 with tripods like this, they generally don't have a way to easily shoot vertically. The easiest way would be to put the QR on the side if the camera with a cage or L bracket, or use one of those rotating mounts that goes around the lens
🤦🏽♂️ I just returned mine because of the pan-dampening-tension ring being stuck. Small rig gave me instruction to make it work but the pan&tilt ended up having an irritating, fraction-of-a-second delay, when trying to to steadily readjust frame for a stopping and moving subject 🤦🏽♂️
Really liked the information you provided about the tripod/head real situation usage aspects as well as limitations. However not even mentioning your camera rig's weight was kind of a Newby mistake. Like what do you think is one of the Primary specs of a tripod, its weight load. So you should have said this review is being made with a 7.5 lb. camera rig or whatever the weight actually was. Otherwise there is no context. What if the load had been a 5 lb. for camera rig, which may have provided different results? Who knows we don't know what weight of your camera rig was. Please mention camera rig weight for 100% of your reviews going forward on tripod/head reviews. That says to me your a solid RUclipsr to follow and you're giving key information to help the viewer make decisions about the whatever product your reviewing. That's the point right?
@synaptichorizons I didn't mention the weight of the rig because I've never weighed it. I understand your point about not having actual numbers to go off, but most people who use camera rigs like these would be able to estimate, my rig is all pretty standard gear. Next time I make a video about a tripod I'll try to remember to say how heavy my camera is.
@@itmeremy true. It also keeps the cost down. It’s think at the end we have to keep in mind it’s the first iteration and the price is really fair for what you get. Great review. Keep it up👍🏻
I think the hydrolics are in the handle? similar to a motorcycle clutch/brake lever perhaps. That would explain the delay as it 'seals' up to lock. Looks like the legs just have air in them, using pressure to hold them up. I could be wrong tho
@JS_Leger that's fair. In most of the promo, Gene was using an FX6 without any accessories so it makes sense that it's not built for a fully rigged out cinema camera
I switched the Head back to my 8 years old Manfrotto. I don't like the smallrig head it is to losen for me. Tilt fixing is way to stiff to turn before it looked enough and when the Pan is loosen, the head wobbles a bit up and down. I like the features but the quality is not enough for me. But hey, my cheap 70€ rollei tripod had a new head now. 😂🎉
@FlyingEyes27 the issue with the tilt would be because you're using the lock as well as the tension adjustment. I think I said in the video that I've been doing that too because my rig is just a bit more than the counterbalance can handle. As for the pan, I haven't had that issue, I did have it unscrew sometimes if the tension was all the way up or I locked the pan axis, but someone told me about the grub screws in the bottom of the head which prevent it from unscrewing at all once you tighten them a little
@@itmeremy no no, the lock works but you need to tighten it up a lot before it holds the camera. On other heads it only need a small and easy turn to lock, on this head you need muscle energy 😂 I can try to turn the button screws. It wobbles not a lot, just a tiny bit but enough that it annoy me
@@typorosz I said in the video that's it's not a travel tripod, but it is very portable for the capacity and features. If you're looking for a small tripod to travel with, this might not be it
