    Thanks for the video and great comments. I've also tried looking for the pinion gear and couldn't find a 0.7M (I tried the 0.6M and it wasn't quite right) that would fit a 5mm shaft for the 775 motor. I even tried machining the 3mm pinion (I also bought the same motor you have in the video to get the gear) to fit on the 5mm but it was too thin and snapped when I pressed it in. I like the idea of fitting a powerwheel gearbox into the car, can you share any info on how you got that done? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for this video. I ended up converting my son's best choice 12v to 24 volt by completely swapping everything out with "oem" hardware from the esc and wire harnesses to the gear boxes. Everything worked great except the new 24volt gear boxes started grinding when my son let off the accelerator. Not sure if the new esc doesn't have the right "breaking" logic or if I didn't match the gearboxes up right

    Just got my daughter a SKY2875 (i think it is) BCP jeep..its a great little thing and i got it in 'new' condition for only $100..just missing a remote. I got a new one, all set. I'm about to add a set of new 12v7ah batteries in parallel that should be coming in tomorrow. She's only 18 months..so i dont need a lot more power, just more crawling speed up small grades. I was curious if a set of 12v (550) higher rpm motors would get me the bump in hill climbing capabilities..or if I will need to run 24v motors.
    I do plan on eventually running the rx30 esc with 24v550 motors.. but for now I just want to add longevity so she can enjoy it for 45-60min and something that maybe has better torque going up grass hills or driveways. Also, if i do buy the 24v 550's, will they run just fine on a 12v set up or will the 12v system not be able to power them properly?

    • @IsaacBayer
      @IsaacBayer  2 года назад +1

      my advice would be to just stick with the stock motors that come with the jeep, especially because your child is pretty young. The stock motors are typically slower with more torque. alot of 550 motors out there will be faster, but have less torque. A 24v motor can be run on 12v with no problem, it will just run slower.

    • @dham99
      @dham99 2 года назад

      @@IsaacBayer the stock motors on it now are 12v550’s with a 9000rpm… pretty low speed. If you hit forward, it’s pretty slow to get up to speed. And it lacks actual torque to go up anything much higher than a level grade lol.

      was the 18v tool battery upgrade burning up your factory 12v esc or motors? I think im going to buy the 24v550 motors and the RX30 esc (24v), so if i did a 18v tool battery it should be able to power the upgrades. My daughter is young..cant even drive it by herself yet. So i only want a bit more power getting up small hills and stuff, nothing crazy (yet!)..

  • @gregnewton4258
    @gregnewton4258 2 года назад

    Came across this in my search for gearbox grease. But have a new question. Why doesn't voltage matter on the 550 motor? The motors I pulled out of mine are from a 24v rideon. I found a 12turn 550 motor but states it's for 7.2vdc.

    • @IsaacBayer
      @IsaacBayer  2 года назад

      Voltage does matter. Brushed motors are pretty forgiving though and can generally take more than the rating. But a 7.2v motor should be able to take 12v, 24 will probably burn it up though.

      You should be able to just run 12v with out changing the motor and gearbox. Worst case you fry the motor, and then you can worry about upgrading. Motors are pretty forgiving with voltage.

      The problem is with the gear pitch. Finding a pinion gear for a 775 motor that would mesh with these gears is next to impossible. You would have to change the first gear. I would just go with a power wheels gear box that uses standard gear pitch.

      @IsaacBayer  4 года назад +3

      Hey, thanks for watching. Most likely they will shorten your battery life. I did test the motors, Honestly, I wasn't that impressed. They were faster, especially on pavement or sidewalk. But with two kids, going in grass they struggle, and got pretty hot. I think it would be a decent setup for a one child car, used primarily on smooth flat surfaces. I ended up getting some powerwheel gearboxes, and putting the bigger 775 motors in them. I had to do a fair bit of fabrication to the body of the vehicle to get them to fit, but now it has torque for days. So I guess it depends on your intended use.

Can you go into more detail on what you didn't like about this mod, and what parts/how you modded the PW gearbox? Or was the PW gearbox a direct fit?

    • @IsaacBayer
      @IsaacBayer  4 месяца назад

      Sure. Yes these motors got hot hot hot, especially with two kids and grass. If it was a single child on flat pavement they probably would have been ok. But they were under powered for what I wanted. The 775 motors absolutely blow these out of the water with temperature and power. The gear boxes were not a direct fit, I had to use a different axle, cut some of the frame plastic to make clearance. I used zip screws to attach the wheels to the power wheels hub. This set up flies on 24 volts.

      @IsaacBayer  Год назад +1

      if you put 24v to a 12v motor, you run the risk of it running hot, burning up instantly, or causing pre-mature failure. That being said, motors tend to take more voltage pretty well, and i know people have run 12v motors on 24v for sometime with out problem. You will double the stated rpm too btw. so a 12v 30k motor will be faster than a 24v 30k motor. Long story short, if you want reliability than go for the 24v motors. If you want to go faster, and don't mind if they blow at some point, than go with the 12v ones.
