Back in the day I too had the exact issue with my 1986 C900. Easy DIY fix as you showed.
👍🏼😁
Thanks for the detailed thinking pathway. It helped narrow down finding the cause.
thanks :)
I bet fixing that issue was as satisfying as us viewers watching it! Nicely done, Jacob! Slowly getting me back into Saab. Miss my 07 anniversary edition 93.
thanks, Andy! it was! hope you can pick yourself up another one eventually
i wished you did a detail showcase of think with the ignition system like how you did here , awesome vid
If I (hopefully never) deal with that issue, there will be a video! 😅
Good old days mechanics that can be taken apart and repaired 🔧👏.
👍🏼👊🏼
Was having same issue 6 months ago. Nice to see how others approaches the same thing. I took me a while to figure it out. In my 900 1985 the inner parts of the switch were designed slightely different. The plastic knob melted a bit and started to prevent contacts from connecting. If only watched this video earlier, it would save me some time.
agh! that's frustrating, but glad you arrived at the same conclusion
Perhaps Contact Cleaner and Dielectric Grease would help?
good idea - thanks for the suggestion :)
Nice video tip!
Those contacts just need cleaned and spread out a tiny bit to have a more firm contact on the surfaces they wipe up and down on. Typical wear. Very cool it is so easy to work on!
All better now thankfully. Definitely not too bad of a fix!
Great root cause analysis, Jacob. Good idea to use the old part as it is likely higher quality than any 3D printed replacement. I had a similar pedal switch issue on an Integra GSR I used to own, except it was the spring on the clutch pedal that controlled the cruise control had worn. Likely from the previous owner driving it on the track. It wouldn't allow the pedal to fully retract which was where the switch to engage the CC was located. I discovered it once by pulling the clutch pedal back manually and the CC engaged. 🤷🏻♂️🤔 Sorry for the long story.
Oh wow. NG 9-3’s sometimes have a similar problem to that
Your Saab 900 reminds me of the Saab 900 SPG. I test-drove a while back. I should've bought that car. It was awesome 🏁🏁🏁😁👍
Nice! My friend calls this the FPG since it has SPG panels and wheels despite being a turbo
I've got the same issue with my Sonett. Although the previous owner relocated the switch to a place where I can't find it! Somewhat frustrating as I'm pretty confident it's the culprit.
Weird. Can you trace the wires to see where they lead?
Super simple fix and with a bit of deductive reasoning along with ingenuity, a money saver as well!
yep! having gone through this previously (and may others have as well), it helped me come to a fairly quick solution! :)
Well done Jacob. At least it's simple on the old style brakeswitches. Newer ones (like the NG 9-3, should be the same for manual and auto boxes) is not a fun adventure XD.
Yep haha a fairly simple solution thankfully! 😅
@@AutoAutopsyhave you done it on the 9-3? It's the weirdest ever. It has 2 brake sensors! One for lights other for telling the ECU that it is braking. Thing is. It's got 4 pins and uses 2 pins in each of them. Another Saab qurkiness🤣
Excellent 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job! You awesome! 👍🏻😊
Thank you! 😄
I also had to repair that part in my 1993 saab 900 convertible. But I discovered it was bad because after turning the car off, the lights would stay on and drain the battery. inexpensive part and very available.
Interesting, so the opposite problem as mine! 🤣
Nice fix 😎
Thanks 👍
When I first got mine, the driver side had to be rewired or jumped, so it works, problem in sedans and convertibles from my understanding.
Agh
I had same problem with 9-5
oh man. scary!
Cool
thanks Steve!
Antenna?
it was like that when I bought it. must've been bent by PO.
What % tint is on your 9-3
legal limit in the front (33%) and not much darker in the back unfortunately.
What’s with the antenna?
lol it was like that when I bought it - somehow got bent by a previous owner!
Next vid!
🫡👍🇸🇪❤️
