Can't wait to retire to do these projects on my 9-3 and 9-5. Time is a precious commodity.
agreed! I wish I could do this full time
Nice to see you taking good care of my future rims! Man, I am still watching for a set of those to pop up somewhere. Perfect rim for an NG9-3.
Lol! Thanks. They are unfortunately no longer made ☹️
They look Fabulous!!!! 👏👏👏
Thanks Joseph!!
Been waiting for a 93 vid 😁
I’ve got so many more lined up 👀
Final product looked pretty good. Metallic paints have a habit of being chalky or dusty that you got. Some metallic paints also do not want a clear coat applied over top oddly. Either way always learning and came out well for a "quick" DIY. Also the mask you wore does not filter out the harmful chemicals in the 2 Part clear you have. You need a respirator rated for isocyanates, ideally the 3M P95 respirator.
Thanks for the tips!
Looks fantastic! My experience with that kind of "dusting" effect (and other weird spraypaint outcomes) has been that it's a combination of the temperature, the distance held from the surface, and how fast you sweep around with your hand (sweep too slow and you get run, but sweep too fast and far away and you'll get flecking and powdering too). I like to practice on a junk surface the day I'm painting to dial it in. But - in the end it didn't matter - you got a great finish!
Thanks for the advice! I wonder if it was temperature then 🤔
Well done Jacob! Mistakes happen and it’s great you shared them. I’m sure the video doesn’t do them justice!
Thanks Bill. Much appreciated 😁
This is what I'm doing today (though I'm doing only simple vinegar wash). Thanks for showing the whole meticulous and tedious process - of doing and redoing it. The wheels look great!
Thanks Laura! Enjoy your wheel wash!
Awesome
🙌🏼🙌🏼
They look fantastic. I'll send mine over to you, lemme know when they are ready ;)
🙌🏼🤣
@@AutoAutopsy you are such a delight to watch and listen to. so helpful. certainly now that my 900 has 9-3 sister, the rest of your channel has become full on relevant :)
It's admirable. Look like very cool! You are awesome! 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Big fan of Black Magic Bleche-Wite for tires. Any browning brushes away, leaving the rubber brand new like they were just mounted. Will really set off the new wheel finish. Works for rubber floor mats as well.
Thanks for the heads up! Now that the clear has fully hardened I’ll get the tires cleaned up
Wheels look great Jacob,
After market SAAB badges look great for 6months to a year then fade worse than the originals did after 15 years.
You would have been far better off wet sanding the old ones with 1000 grit and hitting them with the rest of that 2k lacquer before it cured in the can. BTW you'll get about a day or two out of the can before it cures.
Watching this makes me want to do the double Ys on my 93 Aero again did them about 7 or 8 years ago and they are looking a bit faded. That said I had the Audi ones powder coated 3 or 4 years ago and one of them is f*%ked. Unfortunately the place that did them is no longer there (wonder why?) so I'm looking at getting the whole set redone ( this time in the gun metal grey)
I don't envy you the task of cleaning off a failed paint job. I sprayed the side skirts on my Audi and even though I activated the can of 2K it didn't cure (dodgy can) The result looked like glass but it hadn't dried took 2 days to get all the paint back off to bare plastic to start again. The end result however was perfect and looked factory.
Thanks! That paint removal process was a PITA haha. Unfortunately the old center caps were also aftermarket stickers
🫡👍🇸🇪❤️
Wery nice wheels!
Thanks raffe! 😁
Nice job on the wheels mate
Much appreciated Steve 🙌🏼
Try to get Ace C036 Aviator rims 18" for your 9-3. 😀
Edit: Also... for the center caps I went for Chinese ones (I don't really value center caps) and used nail varnish over the stickers because the original Saab ones the transparent cover of the sticker end up opaque.
Thanks for the tip! 😁
My 9-3 rims have have some serious caked on brake dust that I haven’t had much luck removing. I wonder if that Iron remover might help.
100% use iron remover. Works great and is specifically made for that!
Looks good but you should have done the barrels too. It's going to annoy you after a while, especially when you have such clean and rust free brake calipers and discs.
Yeah the barrels weren’t an issue until I had to use the paint stripper…then it created streaks 🙃 maybe I’ll have to revisit it in the future. It’s not really noticeable with the wheels on and car on the ground thankfully!
Hey! I appreciate your teachings I've absorbed a lot of your Saab knowledge I can't thank you enough. I'm no mechanic but I've learned to do things with my 08' Saab 9-3 2t.
I don't know how to reach you but would it be possible to purchase a cap for my pump reservoir that you might have kicking around? I can't find any that aren't ridiculously priced or overseas and it's stressing me out lol. If not please let me know I'd appreciate it.
thanks for the support. Im not sure which reservoir you're referring to, but esaabparts will 100% be the place to buy it.
@@AutoAutopsy Thank you for the response! I'm looking for a power steering pump cap. At some point and time it broke along the threading and I haven't seen it since lol (1.5years). I'll check out esaabs and see what I can find. So far, not for sure but I think that this type was discontinued. Which is why this has been so difficult.
Dude crazy I remember back in 2017 or 18 when I saw the video on you first getting these wheels! Man time flies. I'm glad that out of the fleet your first 93 stayed. Kinda makes me wish i would've kept my first 93 😭 but oh well just gotta fill the void with more Saabs!
It still has that first car nostalgia that can never be replaced. It might just be a normal 5AT arc, but it means so much to me! 😁
Nice. But looks like some of the paint ran of the barrels. Shouldn't you masking them as well?
Unfortunately the paint stripper made some runs on the barrels. It was fine on the first go-around. It’s not really noticeable with the wheels on and car on the ground, but I’m sure I’ll take them off at some point and paint the barrels
How often do you do a oil change
3-5k miles usually
Saab.
What is Saab?
Saab is an infection ending up in an Dependency/Afhængighed.
I have 3 now!
900 NG 1996
9-5 2001 Vector station
9-5 2007 station Hirsch performance with some extras as automatic and fully leather interior.
If someone offer's you to drive his Turbo Saab, say no but thanks!
Best regards from Denmark.
Definitely an infection! They multiply VERY fast 🤣👍🏼
Gotta ask! What wheels are those? They look very nice. Would like to get one of those for my 9-3 1:33
Sport editions p3s I believe discontinued unfortunately
Yeah they’re discontinued unfortunately
@@AutoAutopsyAh shame! Maybe I can find some around that aren’t beaten up…
What was the cause of the bad result in the first place? Was it the primer?
Yeah, that’s my thought
What size rims are those 17 or 18 inch
18in
@@AutoAutopsy nice I want them how much js
🏁🏁🏁🛞🎬👍
:)
You have not seen filthy wheels if you think yours are filthy at the start of the video :D And the best choice is not to go and hide the wheels by painting them black!
I try to keep my stuff clean 😅🤣
