I’ve had my 2008 9-3 aero for 11 years now, has left me stranded 1 time due to whipping around some corners and the ecu freaking out so got it towed in a panic, disconnected and reconnected the battery and issue was fixed, as long as maintenance is up to date and not driving erratic 24/7 these are very strong cars

My 2005 has 225,000 miles. I had to do my water pump. I also had to replace the head gasket, turbo, and exhaust. My first replacement turbo was a cheap new one which lasted only a year. The second time I did it, I used a junkyard turbo…much better. When I did head gasket, I replaced the timing chain and guides. The forward plastic guide was in pieces and in the oil pan…the car seemed to run ok without it though it was probably risky. I also did my timing cover and crank seals. Like yours, mine had numerous oil leaks that are now all fixed. I also did most of the stuff you listed, many times with the help of your videos. Keep them coming.

For those of us in the salt belt (Canada here), the big issue is rotting front subframes and rear quarter panels. Except for an issue with the Haldex system which was fixed under warrant, my '11 Turbo4 at 160k kms (100k miles) has been fantastic, mechanically. I recently had a couple of steel plates welded to the rotted part of the subframe, but as for the quarters, every 9-3 I've ever seen around here has the cancer. You are fortunate that you live in a desert climate where it is worth keeping them on the road. But up here it becomes a losing battle with rust and just not worth it - unless you fix it up and only drive it in summer. Damn shame really.

    2005 Arc convertible - 153k miles.
Short term: heatshield for ECU showed up this past week, as did metal T - installation shortly
Dones: mostly hoses, coil packs and plugs, coolant expansion tank, tail light wiring
Longer term (this year): convertible cloth replacement (sat outside for too long in SW state before I bought her, too much age+wear for re-treatment to handle), intercooler upgrade (live in a SW state), seatbelt starting to not retract (finally caught up to the car), strut brace addition, interior door handle (bloody plastic). Tuning.

Actually just had my Timing/balance chains and guides replaced and all oil leaks fixed via power steering pump, brake vacuum pump and crankshaft seal. Turns out the rattle noise we heard was a guide from the timing chain from a previous job done before we had the car probably around 100,000 but glad I decided to get it looked at as the new one was on its way out. It’s been 2 days since and my 2004 9-3 aero is running great now even with 216,000 miles! MY 2004 9-5 ESTATE/WAGON IS APPROACHING 176,000 MILES. I had to replace clip bushes (literally shot) , ECU for trannie/ignition replaced with used, flashed by my indy. When I bought it on 08 I replaced most of the vacuum lines- many shot so Inday replaced. Although my indy tried to fix my ac, the Freon would leak out over night. Rubber above & below windshied rotted. I replaced the lower and siliconed the upper as well as sunroof. Runs great, but too expensive to fix AC compared to car value, though I will replace with what will be my 6th Saab

I have a 2005 Aero 5-spd manual that I have owned since it had 14 miles on it (Mar 2004). I have not replaced the timing chain or any related parts yet, but it has been on my mind. Water pump is the same situation. As of Nov, I've had some of the other common problems surface, like the ECU. I replaced the coils/plugs and throttle body since then and it's back to running great. Living in Michigan though, rust is starting to catch up with it. I will probably have to replace the front sub-frame relatively soon as there is a visible hole in it. My rear passenger door lock does the same thing. Will randomly lock or unlock. I have to wait a couple seconds when I'm leaving the car to make sure it stays locked. I've also lived w/o the fuel gage for over 10 years. I just reset the trip every time I get gas. Oh, mine has 335k miles on it, so you definitely have time left on yours. Especially in AZ.

I am amazed that you still have the original water pump in your Saab 9-3. I currently own a 2010 Saab 9-3 Sport Combi Wagon and my water pump went out at 125k. My car is now at 208k, but has a check engine light on for a Catalytic Converter Code. When they did the water Pump job on my car, the exhaust system was removed, and ever since that job was done my exhaust sounds louder. It buzzes, and when I try to pickup speed I get somewhat of a sputtery static hissing like sound from the exhaust. The Turbo doesn't spool as well as it did before the Water pump job .. Any Idea what might be the issue. Let me know what you think, I am trying to figure out the issue. Another issue I am having is when Is s it in my car while the engine is idling, I wiggle my legs, and it sounds like I am shaking the engine ir Transmission.
