While a lot of the "cursing" is clearly meant to be comedic, "heck" actually WAS considered super-offensive at one point, being originally a portmanteau of "Hell" and "f*ck."
Strange you point that out. When I was growing up, you couldn't say heck, darn, or other words that came close to swears without getting dirty looks from people in the community. [That was also during a time when people knew their neighbors.] If you didn't apologize for such language, word spread about you around town rather fast. Some people even told the clergy on you; at that point, you had to repent for what you did or be shamed.
It's so amazing to see a gm stick to the guns of their NPCs instead of bending backwards to make their NPCs change on a dime to fit some crazy ideas of their players. Really loved seeing the characters that Andy established BE those characters and CONTINUE to be those characters and not make nonsensical changes to fit the whims of the players. There is a give and take with ttrpgs but for quite some time the take has leaned towards players rather then the GM for all adventures for oxventure and etc. love all that they do but some complexity and change is VERY welcomed.
I do really like how Andy characterises his villains & other NPCs, and the fact that he's a stricter GM, and that his NPCs have common sense, BUT this episode kinda felt like he didn't give the players much opportunity to think/act, and rushed things along to a position from which the real adventure might then start - in BitD, they'd be dropped into the end of episode situation from the engagement roll, whereas here it felt like the whole episode was Andy trying to get the players onto death row because he wants an adventure about escaping from death row..?
I'm a little late but I really want to point how amazing Andys different outfits are. Everyones looks great but Andy changes every week and is constantly amazing.
@@clockworkkirlia7475 Your welcome. I'm always happy when someone appreciates the large collection of random (mostly gruesome) facts that reside in my head.

Huh.I figured with the jerky talk last time, Nate would mummify himself rather than pickle. Oh god. I almost drowned in my tea laughing with the travel bit.
I'm currently studying game design at University and Deadlands has me feeling inspired. I kinda want to make a fan add-on for it themed around Australia. Add in some rules for being a Ned Kelly style bush ranger in Colonial Australia, add in some Australian monsters, that kind of thing. I dunno, would anyone play that? It'd be a lot of research and Australian history just isn't really that well known outside the country so it might not have much of an international audience.
I don't think it matters if it has much traction if it's just for fun, and most people don't know much history or know what it's like in that era but a) they don't know much about the US either aside from wildly inaccurate movie portrayals and b) the people who are interested will learn. If you include a "key facts from history" and a "differences to a US western" info sheet then I'm sure it'll work, even if the attempted accents from America and Britain might be a bit OTT 😁 but if it's just for fun anyway, why not? 😊
@@TheYorkRose Most Australians ironically enjoy bad American attempts to sound Australian. It's kind of charming. I mainly want to try it because I saw a lot of foreigners calling for a Red Dead style game set in the outback on a series about Ned Kelly and I enjoyed seeing foreigners care about my culture. Australia isn't really as glamourous internationally as most other nations.
I would recommend also considering indigenous perspectives in such a thing, as they are a key part of the history of any colonial nation. I'm not familiar with Deadlands myself, so maybe it does account for indigenous peoples, but they haven't made an appearance in this campaign so far.
I'm loving this series. By the way when they enter the town the song in the background being played is actually old-timey version of a religious hymn. Not sure if anyone noticed that are not normal for the music of the Victorian era specifically the old west part of it...
I thought I recognized the music that played when they reached the city and realized it was an instrumental country version of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms which fits the towns vibe perfectly once they start to realize what’s going on and the music changes.
I've listened to that part over quite a few times and i think he says, "Oh. How does he s-" Presumably, he was going to say "smell?" But either thought better of it or couldn't because he started laughing.
My dog has no nose How does he smell? Terrible I said it when watching before Mike did - oldie but goodie and an automatic instinct, but Mike held himself back because he didn't want to interrupt the vibe with slapstick antics, I think. But that's the reference and context :)
Spoilers. ..... ..... .... .... Wait, so the three of them are locked in a tiny cell, and one of them will turn into a demon for "some amount of time that definitely exceeds the amount of time to kill two people"? I guess what I'm asking is "does this mean Jane and Mike will also be dead soon?"
@@masondeross good point. My head cannon for what I was thinking happens is that mike and Jane convince the demon currently inhabiting John's body that it's best method to ensure chaos would be to go after the judge who is constantly insisting on "order" And they they just casually walk behind the demon as it just eviscerates all the towns "law men" just casually taking it all in, as if they they were watching a particularly uninteresting parade. When in reality it's just horror movie grade slaughter fest.

There is a sheriff in Florida that is potentially dangerously close to becoming like this... They've closed down legitimate businesses and they even sign autographs... And they seem to be highly religious but that's not always a good thing.. they have a couple good policies but overall then wave a lot of red flags.
This bounty is a harder sell for my four horsemen of the apocalypse theory but I think it still works. We've had war and pestilence now we encounter death. Death is easily the hardest theme to portray as it's so broad and encompasses the other three. I think the idea here is that with such restrictive laws the people of this town are barely able to live a life. It's a clever direction to take it. The white horse is a slight problem. DuCrow should of had the white horse. Death should have a (fairly ambiguous) pale horse but you don't get any paler than white. Finally the name Mortimer is icing in the cake.
I like this theory! Only thing is I have a nagging feeling that Viktoria might turn out to be the BBEG and that those rings have some power that comes to bare when brought together.
I agree about the rings. But I also believe she's lying about her past. I think she used to be the leader of the others, and is tying up all loose ends, before she makes her move.
In some interpretations, the black horseman is given as Law instead of Famine (since none of the horsemen are named, but he carries a set of scales, which can be spun as either weighing food or weighing crimes), so it could be that, but you're right, it is a little more difficult to make fit the theory.
cool theory! Definitely there is something about Victoria, she is holding back. "None of the horseman were named" sorry but I couldn't resist... :( 'And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death..." Revelation 6:8

I think Johnny appreciates Andy having to give the NPCs a backstory, moreso than anyone else. #whateverthatcharactersnamewasinspellcheck. Christopher Engelbert Humperdink Fauntleroy the Seventeenth?
I seem to remember there was a "Calcahoon" in there, and his name ended with "at your service" being part of his name.
@masondeross no, that was the butler from Mind Your Manors, this was the guard in Spell Check that was raising money for the orphanage in Bumble.
Andy is so good at creating villains you hate. Loved the episode, can't wait for part 2!
CORN WHISKEY!!!! WHAT AN ULTIMATUM! A bit Rusty though.
my mom came into my room and watched some of this over my shoulder... she is sad Jane does not have a hat. She is glad Jane has magic though, it compensates for the lack of a hat!
I'm watching this series for a second time and I've noticed about 7 Things to Foreshadow Whats Going to Happen.
"7 Things to Foreshadow What's Going to Happen" would make a great Ox list video
*Order, Order, Order, Order!*
Really enjoying Andy's commitment to the absurdity of this character!
While a lot of the "cursing" is clearly meant to be comedic, "heck" actually WAS considered super-offensive at one point, being originally a portmanteau of "Hell" and "f*ck."
The only etymology I can find for heck is as a 19th C term to mean hell. Do you have a link to the etymology you describe?
Strange you point that out. When I was growing up, you couldn't say heck, darn, or other words that came close to swears without getting dirty looks from people in the community. [That was also during a time when people knew their neighbors.] If you didn't apologize for such language, word spread about you around town rather fast. Some people even told the clergy on you; at that point, you had to repent for what you did or be shamed.
Man, Andy is going pretty hard on them but I still love the show. Keep up the good work everyone.
I’m loving the smaller groups. Gives more focus to the people in the game.
Andy was definitely having lots of fun with this judge. Just let lose...
I'm a little late but I really want to point how amazing Andys different outfits are. Everyones looks great but Andy changes every week and is constantly amazing.
1:00:51
Andy, it's called a "bench." Lol. You're doing an excellent job, though. I'm enjoying this.
"I say I say I say, this bartender has no nose!"
"No nose? How does he process olfactory information?"
".......terrible.....?"
Historically, wet rope is kind of sharp, The one time I know of that it was used it slashed open the neck of the person being hung.
Information. Processing. Ding! Thank you for teaching me a thing! (genuine)
@@clockworkkirlia7475 Your welcome. I'm always happy when someone appreciates the large collection of random (mostly gruesome) facts that reside in my head.
I seem to recall a man was actually decapitated because of this; he was in prison for a lengthy amount of time while the scaffold was being built, and just ate a bunch and gained weight. Rope was too long, and when he dropped, head popped off.
the setup for this bounty reminds me of the western film "Unforgiven", just with a sheriff/lawman who's unfairly harsh on the lay. But I will say that Justice Budrow (however you spell it, probably a hanging for spelling it wrong) is a lot more. . .hyperbolic of a character, while being absolutely realistic at the same time.
Phew, I thought there wasn't gonna be an episode this Friday because there wasn't any Next Premiere video like usual (usually after episodes end or even before that) and yet there it is!!!
Maybe they didn't want to spoil anything. Or they filmed it a little late or were just a little busy and didn't have time to make any previews. They were pretty early into this campaign so I doubted they'd just end it there.
Hanging? We know how to deal with this.
......They're going to need some noodles.
Their public defender certainly gave me the young girl as a lawyer vibe
Kinda wish when The Judge called BS on the Spanish diplomat gambit Nate would have mumbled "Frijoles"
Why, what does Frijoles mean? Is it beans in Spanish? :D
@@darklord884 Precisely that.
33:52 the look of utter contempt on Andy's face is priceless.
Do you know what mike said? I'm having a hard time picking it up
@@lenachoi2148 Me as well
"How does he smell?" ie the oldest joke in the known universe
@@toratio8547 Thanks!
@@toratio8547thank you, I was also having a really hard time understanding it because he mumbles it very quickly. Not even the captions could pick it up.
This series has been amazing, well GM'ed by Andy as the Marshall and Luke, Ellen, Mike and Johnny are great players in the roles they are playing, so congrats all round on jobs well done. Here's to more awesome adventures in the deadlands with the Oxventure crews.
I'm glad Johny is back, just didn't feel right with you guys doing d&d without him.
Johnny uses they/them pronouns. Also, don't think they've ever done any ttrpg campaigns without Johhny to start with, right?
@@Yoruichi006
They meant the last 2 episodes.
Andy's performance is absolutely brilliant and hilarious..bravo
I love the rage in Garnet/Jane at being arrested for her waist coat. I could feel the angry huckater magic through the screen.
Everyone's going all out in this one!
I'm exstatic to be able to catch the full thing live. I managed to catch the tail end of the last one and binged watched the whole from beginning to end and loved it!!!!!! Thank you guys for doing this! It's like getting to play D&D without having to leave my home or do all of that math! thank you guys again. i love this!!! After watching the stream. Poor nate!! Now we have to wait a week to know how they are going to get out of that mess. I can hardly wait!
Maine Justice is one of SNL's best bits, and I was stoked to see Andy co-opting it here. Cracked me up.
4:33 absolutely cursed sound design so thank you for that 🐛😬
Hung by the neck until dead
Nate- I'm already dead
"I plead insanity." 🐴 🤣
Andy's villains, I just fucking can't. Inspired.
What style are those cards? Art Deck-o?
More like Cart Noveau I think.
Booo!
Boo!!! Hissss!! We love it
(sigh) Have a Benny.
I’d play the shit out of that.
@discordlexia2429 well I watched rescuers down under and crocodile dundee so I'm pretty sure I understand how the outback works ;)
I would recommend also considering indigenous perspectives in such a thing, as they are a key part of the history of any colonial nation. I'm not familiar with Deadlands myself, so maybe it does account for indigenous peoples, but they haven't made an appearance in this campaign so far.
Andy is a genius. What a performance! 😂
Andy as a gm is so fun, I'm so glad he's allowed to just go on here and CRUSH it whenever an episode is released
Loving Andy's faces as the Judge
Andy was amazing in this episode
"What's the most exotic animal that's been jerked?"
Beautiful
I'm loving this series. By the way when they enter the town the song in the background being played is actually old-timey version of a religious hymn. Not sure if anyone noticed that are not normal for the music of the Victorian era specifically the old west part of it...
I thought I recognized the music that played when they reached the city and realized it was an instrumental country version of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms which fits the towns vibe perfectly once they start to realize what’s going on and the music changes.
I thought so too
When the music changes it goes into a piece Luke created (the one with the ticking sound).
That's awesome! I love the vibe.@@dee...
With a painting that large I think the honorable judge was compensating for something lol
I was hoping for Nate to say Oh Frijoles when speaking in Spanish was declared illegal
I'm just leaving this timestamp here for me, because I loved HOW these knuckleheads got themselves arrested: 45:02
We can see here how much Andy is enjoying being DM, yelling at everybody, haha
Absolutely hilarious! Best one yet! Great job, everyone!
What did Mike say at 33:44 that everyone found so funny!? I can't make it out and it's driving me mad.
I've listened to that part over quite a few times and i think he says, "Oh. How does he s-" Presumably, he was going to say "smell?" But either thought better of it or couldn't because he started laughing.
My dog has no nose
How does he smell?
Terrible
I said it when watching before Mike did - oldie but goodie and an automatic instinct, but Mike held himself back because he didn't want to interrupt the vibe with slapstick antics, I think. But that's the reference and context :)
@@TheYorkRose I would have never gotten that, and it was driving me crazy too, so thanks.
34:52 am I the only one who heard "the bar tender has no clothes" the first time around?
Spoilers.

Wait, so the three of them are locked in a tiny cell, and one of them will turn into a demon for "some amount of time that definitely exceeds the amount of time to kill two people"?
I guess what I'm asking is "does this mean Jane and Mike will also be dead soon?"
@@roguedogx Jane still has her own devils. The gun she surrendered is just for appearances.
@@masondeross good point.
My head cannon for what I was thinking happens is that mike and Jane convince the demon currently inhabiting John's body that it's best method to ensure chaos would be to go after the judge who is constantly insisting on "order"
And they they just casually walk behind the demon as it just eviscerates all the towns "law men" just casually taking it all in, as if they they were watching a particularly uninteresting parade. When in reality it's just horror movie grade slaughter fest.
This is the greatest show ever to grace RUclips! You guys are great!!!
1:06:13 "What you haven't considered... is our diplomatic immunity." "We're from...... Spain" "Ya'll from Spain?"... I almost knocked over my dinner from laughing so hard. 🤣
1:12:20 "Is this really necessary?" "yes" 😂😂
This was a better legal comedy than the entirety of she-hulk
Awesome performances and story telling by all concerned. Keep up the great work
There is a sheriff in Florida that is potentially dangerously close to becoming like this... They've closed down legitimate businesses and they even sign autographs... And they seem to be highly religious but that's not always a good thing.. they have a couple good policies but overall then wave a lot of red flags.
I respect Andy for having the courage to start this episode with a transcontinental flight to Signapore lmao
I think this judge will still be Famine, as both are symbolised by scales, the town is "dry", and the order is more accurate if Death is fourth
"None of the horseman were named"
sorry but I couldn't resist... :(
'And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death..."
Revelation 6:8
Greatest court room drama I've ever seen!
Just caught up on the previous bounty before watching this episode. Totally made my Saturday! Amazed at how Andy didn't break while nearly breaking everyone else with the NPCs he portrays. Can't wait to watch the next episode. Please keep up the good work.
🫂 Still subscribed.
Nice to see Andy having so much run ripping on his friends and colleagues 😂
11:46 I never knew that’s how English people pronounced Zebra. Over here in Canada, it’s ZEE-bra.
robes, colourful tie, yelling "order"...omg its wild west evil john bercow
When Andy was really shouting order and I am almost CERTAIN he said “oraoraoraora” he does know what Jojo is after all!
this episode got dark and amazing
the judge rapidly saying "ORDER ORDER ORDER ORDER ORDER" is basically channeling jotaro kujo's star platinum stand "ORAORAORAORAORA" punch combos
In addition to cards merchandise, would you consider making a Savage Worlds (Deadlands) Wild Die d6 for Oxventure? That could be a lot of fun, too! I'm absolutely loving this campaign, and I'm really itching to play more Deadlands, soon!
Andy got in groove as the judge, didn't he?
