Regarding the dish you ate at that restaurant, by seeing the icon from St Nicholas in the background I'm guessing you were there on St Nicholas day and many orthodox people hold lent on this day, I'm assuming why they had this specific dish. For the last few hundred years our country has been nothing more than a play field for the big players. It wasn't until 1944 that we were finally granted our own little state and we took our destiny into our own hands. Unfortunately, there are some out there, like our neighbor Bulgaria, who are not satisfied of this outcome and still seek long lost 19th century ideals, thus risking a better future for some stupid hegemony.
All people in Macedonia were Bulgarians before 1918. IMORO( Internal Macodonian- ADRIANOPOL - revolutionary Organization) and IMRO were Bulgarian revolutionary organisations created for freedom of Macedonia from Ottomans and after 1918 from Serbias. Goce Delchev, Dame Gruev, Hristo Tatarchev, Todor Aleksandrov , Vancho Michailov and millions more of old revolutionaries were Bulgarians. Comrade Josip Broz Tito and the communists did Genocide over Bulgarians in Macedonia since 1945. Literally they killed all old members of IMRO to create "new" diverted and fictional "macedonian" identity without Bulgarian spirit in it. All this was done in Yugoslavia by communists and their secret service executors.
I’m from Macedonia and I’ve never had beans and fish 😂 Even to us it’s a weird combo. They’re popular dishes in their own, and especially during lent before Easter. That’s probably why they served you this. Whatever experience you had in the restaurants in Tetovo, Kumanovo, or anywhere else you went, this is completely different from what ppl eat on their homes-even though they call all this traditional food. At home, you typically don’t serve a combination of plates and sides and things like that. The main dish is usually a kidney bean stew, or a pea stew, a wax beans stew, potato and meat stew, cabbage and meat stew, etc. On the side you have bread (lots), and maybe some fresh greens or pickled veggies.
Yeah grosh we only eat on with cooked beef but never with fish haha We also eat Dolma, pepper with rice and meat. And idk the name but baked potatoes with minced meat and smashed eggs. Basically just farmers food because like 60% of people here live as farmers

Athens and Skopje are to agree in the new name North Macedonia. Because Macedonia was the land of great Alexander. They were speaking greek, believing in ancient greek Olympus gods and they where having literature and teachers from Athens. Some part of this huge Macedonia land they are leaving Skopje people but greeks could agree to name the country as Macedonia... So North Macedonia is lets say fine for both people and hopefully we will have more trade, and good relationships...
