Today we take a look at the unique history of Monastir, also known as modern day Bitola, in Macedonia's southern region. The city was not only the Balkan capital to the Ottoman Empire for some time, but also an important city in the times of Phillip II of Macedon.

U cant store enire Bitola history in one video.. its HUGE! but nice video . Bitola was the first city on the balkans included with Tanzamat reforms1 Tanzamat reforms were reforms in Otoman empire for Westernisation! Everything was builded in western way after 1830! And many, many, west powers opened representative offices here! Sccholls, Churches, clubs, hotels, and everything! In ww1 Bitola was the most devestated ( bombed) city in the world , together with one German city! The war front passed tro the city! more than 80% of the old Bitola buildings and famous architecture was forever lost!!! The city in 1880-1900 was bigger than Belgrade in Serbia ! And after ww2 all Jewish ppl were deported.. like a 100% ! Its a very sad story! The city was MAGNIFICENT! And today with the little remained after wars, its still the most european city in Macedonia . We love our city, because we know how rich with culture and history is! Every corner, every building have beautifull old story!
Tnx for the video bro, much love from Bitola

This episode is also better than the Skopje one.
Also, I think the arches you showed from Heraklea look Roman more than Greek. All ancient archeological sites in Macedonia have a top Roman layer. Also Heraklea is not the only one :) Skupi, Stobi, Astibo, and Ohrid are also ancient sites. And there are probably more that I've never heard of or can't remember now because I live here and take that stuff for granted. I think most cities in Macedonia have been around since at least Roman times and have layer on top of layer...
By the way, there was nothing near the highway because the highway goes through Vardar's valley. Most parts of the valley are too narrow and steep for larger populations. And where there are cities or villages, the highway goes around them. To get to anywhere you have to get off the highway.
This was actually a very important caravan route throughout history. Macedonia and this part of the Balkans is very mountainous. The vardar valley is a long and narrow stretch of relatively flat land that crosses the region from north to south. That's why it was popular for trade caravans. Skopje was the main stop between Thessaloniki and Belgrade. That's why you have so many hans in Skopje. That's also why migrants prefer it today. It's the easiest way to get from south to north.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to visit my country :) The problem with Skopje is that, now that the city center has been totally messed up with all the construction projects and such... it's one of the worst parts of the city. To see the normal, nice places and neighborhoods and interact with nice people you have to explore around the central square and outwards (and obviously, avoid the ghetto). You did the opposite. You started in the city center and went in the direction of the ghetto. By the way I used to live there 20 years ago. It was a really nice neighborhood. And there was no one selling Albanian flags at that time. But cities change and neighborhoods change. That's just how life is :)

Regarding Ataturk, he prevented the great powers during WWI, to divide Turkey in a few small countries.
The Turkish army under the lidership of Ataturk defeated all the great powers of WWI, when they decided to invade and divide Turkey.
The greatest battle was fought in the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli where the British, French, Australian, New Zealand, Greek, Italian, ect, ect, were all mowed down by Turkish army under Ataturk, preventing the colonisation of Turkey.
Next, Ataturk abolished the islamic caliphate in Turkey and established the separation of state and religion.
He also abolished the Arabic language/writings and introduced a new latinised Turkish alphabet (which was put together by Sami Frasheri, (Şemseddin Sami),
one of many Albanians in the Turkish governing elite.
It is said that Ataturk's father was also Albanian.)
(A turk and an Albanian were arguing. The Albanian said to the turk: "You turks are bad because you kept us invaded and left us behind 500 years!"
The turk replied: "What are you talking about?! Look at the Turkish government and ruling elites! They are all Albanians!
Ye kept yourselves under occupation!" 😅 🇦🇱🇹🇷

The ancient Greek City States regarded the Macedonians as barbarians. Further Macedonia was a kingdom unlike the Ancient City States each city with its own democracy. When Phillip of Macedon rose to power destroyed the City States HIRING the ancient Greek as mercineries to conquer Persia. It is only now that Greeks claim they got united with Macedonians but really back then was seen as oppression by the Macddonians as evidenced by the ancient Greek historians.
