That tone at 5:54 is just chef's kiss. I have the sick as mkiii and the drv as my two dirt pedals at the moment. Thinking this might be that great low gain sound, as I love the sick as as an always on, just slight touch of grit. Really wonderful video showing off how vast this pedal can go.
Hi , the music in this video is EPIC! So so so so well mixed. Would love to see you do a video where you go about producing the music for your videos, what bass and drums do you use? Thanks
Hey thanks so much! Time's tight right now but I hope to do a video like that sometime later when I'm able. I use a Squier Classic Vibe '60s P-Bass, and the drums here are programmed with EZ Drummer, but lately I've also been trying out the MixWave Aaron Gillespie drum library.
thanks! This is a big generalization but the Sick As is essentially a mod of a Klon, while the Del Mar takes more after a Tube Screamer (but a bit more its own thing as I understand it). So the clipping character is fairly different between the two, then the EQ and particularly the midrange is also different-Sick As has a bit more emphasis on higher mids. Personally, I tend to prefer the Del Mar if I'm working with a clean amp, while the Sick As works better for me if I'm using it to push a dirty amp harder.
Do you do any post EQ to your guitars after you record them in these intro tracks? I always find you have absurdly clear rhythm guitars, but I can't seem to find a good spot to achieve that.
There's always a high-pass on the guitars to make room for bass, and from there maybe a couple of ~1-2dB cuts to help things sit well. While I'm writing and recording scratch tracks, if I find myself making really dramatic adjustments in post, I go back to the pedal/amp and fix it there. And if something's really not working, I'll just go and pick out a different IR that's more suited for the pedal/track, because that usually has the biggest impact on the sound. And I mean, EQ is always crucial, but it can be just as much a matter of the actual arrangement. I try not to force together parts that are going to compete in a mix, and tweak them where I need to (e.g. simplify the rhythm chords if the lead already has a lot going on). That has saved me a ton from trying to save mixes with a ton of EQ work.
@@ambienttrash5234 nice, okay. I’ll give that a shot! I use a helix right now and I find myself cutting the lows below 80hz and the highs usually around 5khz-6.5khz in my IR. I usually run into either really boomy problems or fizzy gain.
I just gotta say I love your demo songs. They always bring out the best in the pedal IMO. You know what you are doing mate.
Ah man thanks so much, that means a lot!
This is the best man. Your mix, the drum parts, the tones. Goddamn.
Maaaan thank you. One of those pedals that sounds so good that I can't help but to polish everything up a bit extra haha

Why does every overdrive sound like the best overdrive I've ever heard :(

Difference with sick as? Nice demos bro

@@ambienttrash5234 thank you so much, super clear
Damn, this is hot. I have enough drive pedals though...still...how many drive pedals is too many?
I am not a good person to ask, I prob own as many drive pedals as I do shirts
N+2 = Too many. But N+1 = Perfect.
(Where N = the number of drive pedals you currently have)
😉
👍🏿🤘

I have #8069
Swervedriver. 😏
Uh oh hahaha, did I inadvertently rip a riff? (Would not be the worst thing, Swervedriver rules)
I have it.its not all that good until you stack it.other than that its mediocre. Very expensive aswell.Much better out there.
*better for you personally
Speak for yourself
That first song reminds of me the Church.
nice track, bro.
