I’m a longtime pipe smoker from the US. I recently discovered a RUclips channel called Dave’s Walks . He stays utterly silent but videos his marvelous strolls through rural England. I find it mesmerizing and the countryside and villages are completely peaceful and charming . I never fail to spot a nice to smoke a pipe. The environment is so very important to the experience.
Thanks for the recommendation about Dave’s walks. This will be one more mod of escapism for me and ways of me getting to see parts of the country I may never get to see in my lifetime.
I used to love watching my dad smoke his pipe! He passed away peacefully and conscious until his last few breaths, as he closed his eyes last December age 94 I’ve got his pipes!
As a working man a pipe is a kind of escape and I look forward to getting home and unwinding with a cup of coffee especially a nice strong Irish coffee ( the most important thing for me personally as a pipe smoker is it's personal chill out time after a day's work and I can't think of a better time to reflect about things in general ( if that makes sense) ,
Coffee with my morning pipe, and then tea goes wonderfully with virginias, perhaps my favorites being a cold southern sweet tea or green tea. Cheers! -Kevin
Thanks for this Richard. I've started pipe smoking now and very much enjoying it. I've been growing my own tobacco in the UK and harvested my first leaves this year and smoked some which is great. Now have enough for the winter. I bought Organic Golden Virginia Tobacco seeds two years ago. You'll end up with thousands of seeds from one plant to keep it going.
I really appreciate how eloquently you put all the positives of smoking a pipe. I hope you get to enjoy it for years to come. Lord knows I'm not going to stop enjoying it for anyone
I watched this the other day and forgot to leave a comment, I was a long term roll your own smoker and decided to ditch them and take up the pipe maybe three years ago now and looking back to when I was a young lad of sixteen I started to smoke the pipe but was ribbed by my mates so I started to roll my own and looking back I should have stuck two fingers up at them because I just enjoy the pipe so much, trying different blends and the pipe takes your mind away into deep thinking and relaxing and as someone who suffers with PTSD the pipe settles you down when you get rattled. Great vide Sir thoroughly enjoyed it up here in Gods county of North Yorkshire.
Keep the pipe smoking videos coming Richard. Really enjoy them. I bought a Peterson pipe and as a novice still to have my first smoke. Keeping it for a special occasion. Cheers 👍
The pipe magazine was the best 4 came out a year with the glossiest pages with detail articles in pipe making and tobacco growing and blending i would read them front to back
Hello Richard from Bangkok, Thailand. I will be heading back to America tomorrow. So I had some time to view your video and enjoyed it very much. I have enjoyed pipe smoking a bit over a year now and I quite agree with you on all points. My ancestry is of England but have had no opportunity to visit. Your demeanor is quite pleasant to me. Thank you for taking time to make your most interesting videos.
Pipe smoking reminds me of my father who was an aficionado. It also reminds me of the tobacconist shop where my dad would send me to buy his Golden Block tins of tobacco. The shop keeper knew my dad and had no qualms selling to me as a child as he knew where it was going. I saw a tv documentary years ago about people growing tobacco in the UK. They said it was healthier because they picked it with less sap in it, used no chemicals and cured it themselves.
My husbands dad smoked a pipe for over 50 years he lived until he was 83. The thing is you can live a clean healthy life but life is still short so you have to enjoy it! Love your books in the background, more people need to read books and cut the media time down. My Nan read books she lived to 101 my dad who is 82 loves books and I too love to now read books 📚 📖 love to see another vlog on your books and maybe some charity shop book shopping! 😁
They’re beautiful pipes. I was wanting one of those as well. My local tobacconist had a Savinelli St Nick. I went to go back and get it after the new year and it was bought up. Those Christmas pipes are really fantastic looking smokers.
Sir, you should try canning jars for your tobacco. Some I have on the desk for daily use, some I have in the cellar for storing. I have some tobacco down there that's aged over 10 years and its better than when new. Found I don't enjoy smoking without some kind of tea...nettle, chamomile, rooibos.
Revor Plug rubbed cut and dried for 40 mins with Blue Mountain coffee at elevenses. Deep joy. Carnation Milk in the coffee, Or a shot of Jamesons and a bowl of Condor. Try telling that to the kids today. A pipe is the new garlic bread.
Arthur Morris (tobacconist) still exists in Bolton. The shop was established in 1903 and still has all the original fixtures and fittings. The aroma in there is amazing! ❤
What a great gentleman you are. My late Grandfather was a pipe smoker and they are my fondest childhood memories the times I spent with him. D Day veteran too.
My late father was a pipe smoker, I have so many memories of him smoking it. He lived to be 83 I still have his pipes on his pipe stand in my home. I’ve even thought of smoking one of them just like I did when I was a young boy 😂
The one thing that I find cozy it the thought of a group of pipesmokers just sitting down and contemplating over different subjects. Would love for that to happen. Sounds like I have to travel back to England to have a smke with you sir Hahaha
Fortunately for me, I have friends who also smoke pipes and there is a local club near me. Even in the US where I live, it is rare to see anyone with a pipe. Very sad as it is a pleasure more could enjoy.
I parked my car in a loading bay today and was smoking my pipe next to my car when the traffic warden came over. I said I was loading my pipe. Turned out, he liked a cigar. I recommended him some quality cigars, shook hands, and off he went
Finally! Another pipe smoker who appreciates a glass of milk when they smoke. Most of my friends, when I tell them I drink milk when I smoke they laugh at me lol
I've been smoking pipes for about threes years and enjoy it very much. It's meditative and relaxing. I favor Peterson pipes and smoking English blends and enjoy a cup of tea with it. I enjoy your videos, they're informative and classy.
i stopped smoking cigarettes and started smoking pipe after your first video about that topic.Very inspiring, thanks for all your content ! If u can get some, try the tobaccos from Vauen, an old german company..they are wonderful !
Hello Sir! I’m really enjoying your videos! I’m 61, but have only been smoking a pipe for a few years now, but I’m really enjoying it, along with your videos!
Excellent stuff Richard.I started pipe smoking earlier this year, it's a very relaxing hobby. I would thoroughly recommend acquiring some Missouri Meerschaum corncob pipes, they smoke beautifully. Agree on the nasty labels, I'm 54 years old and having paid extortionate tax I don't appreciate being lectured.
I can recommend Rattrays Bagpipers blend and Comoy’s Cornish blend….after three years of pipe smoking these are my personal favourites…although I continue to explore too.
My answer is; When I smoke my pipe, I use to drink Black Coffee, strong and self grinded. Or raw milk like you do. And while smoking, I indeed am contemplating. My preferred pipes are the old fashioned bended Peterson pipes. Just the ones like Sherlock Holmes were smoking.
I absolutely love the smell of pipe being smoked. When I hear the smell outside I try to go close to the person smoking to experience it a little longer. That being said I am also very tall 6’4” and I used to smoke cigarettes when I was younger, and I had to stop because I felt the negative effects on my body right away. Because I’m tall my body struggles pumping all that blood around and as soon as nicotine enters the system, blood vessels contract even more and I start losing sensation in my left leg and foot beneath the knee (there is a fair deal of varicose going on). The bottom line is because I feel the negative effects of smoking right away, it helps me to stay away from it. (Also the fear of losing my leg helps). I truly envy people who don’t get affected as much and can enjoy the meditation and the aesthetics of pipe smoking. I’ll stay away from it.
Lovely tobacconist in Bexhill-on-sea. Stevens Tabaccos, St. Leonards Road, Bexhill. They've been there for years. Sell everything you could possibly want for smoking.😊
I have Organic coffee with my pipe work well together. I am buying Flake pipe tobacco at the minute have to hand rub it for the pipe but it's great. I started smoking a pipe on your first video Richard.
I've only started smoking a pipe these past few months and prefer the flakes too they seem to burn slower and last longer. I get on a role sipping them lol
You have found the same things in pipes as I have over the last two years. I like taking walks and a pipe. I do not drink much when I smoke a cigar or pipe
Hello Richard from Richard Alcohol is nice while you smoke the pipe. But it actually dissloves your natural protective layers on your muccus system while it's in contact with it. Which of course matters if you want to smoke and do it in a healthy way at tze same time. Burned tobacco is rather acidic (Ph value), so enjoying something rather basic is commended. I really enjoy having a tea (either herbal infusions, yorkie or earl grey) it makes the flavours pop even more! Happy smokes, greetings from Switzerland Richard
I remember an uncle pipe smoking. The lounge was well aired, so when I walked in the room the smell wasn't stale. When he freshly lit, the smell was devine. He mostly smoked Borkum Riff; but rarely something different. Memories….🥹
I've been drinking exclusively raw milk, also, for at least the last fifteen years. It cured my two seasons of hay fever that I'd suffered from since childhood.
I started smoking a pipe about three years ago I tried many different pipe tobaccos and was so disappointed that I could not find the rich sweet aromatic pipe tobacco that took me back to the 1960s and 1970s it might have been an Ogden's pipe tobacco but not sure but I remember it had a sweet aromatic smell I wish I could find that tobacco if I could I would gladly take to the pipe I used to buy my tobacco from a well known tobacco importer but still never found the tobacco I wanted. It's all about nostalgia and that's not a bad thing
just what I've been looking into recently, It appears to be quite successful here with seeds available to grow your own, as long as you don't sell it, would make an excellent bartering product!
Ashton used to make pipes as well, i have one and it's that rare pipe where everything about it is just right. I've not got around to trying any of their tobaccos but Artisan's Blend seems to be the one most aligned to my tastes if i could just find it (it's out of stock everywhere i've looked)
You're onto something. I'll watch these videos til the cows come home. You might be onto something with growing your own toh-ba'koe. I'm in Australia and just googled it all... hardly anything. Mostly bongz n vape stuff.

Coffee and a pipe…Guinness and a pipe… Lagavulen 16 yo or Skybank or Compass Box typically in that order… however, coffee by far. Thanks for the video!
When I was married some years back, I made my (now ex) wife a pipe. It had a ceramic bowl shaped as a mischievous goblin head with gold earings, and the stem was seasoned elderwood. I've no idea if he still has it.

Lovely to see the Hobbiton Piper here! Love your pipe videos!
@@Saxonx500 that’s great to hear, thank you! :)
One of my grandfathers used to smoke a pipe. He was born in 1909 and died in 1999.
Nothing compares to a Peterson deluxe pipe,Condor tobacco and a mug of freshly brewed coffee...Heaven.
Thanks for this Richard. I've started pipe smoking now and very much enjoying it. I've been growing my own tobacco in the UK and harvested my first leaves this year and smoked some which is great. Right on, Im going to grow some next season.👍
Excellent 👍if you have a surplus can I place an order 🤔😆👍
I really appreciate how eloquently you put all the positives of smoking a pipe. I hope you get to enjoy it for years to come. Lord knows I'm not going to stop enjoying it for anyone
Thanks Richard. You have epitomized what pipe smoking is all about.

Smoked a pipe for years, best way to destress and relax.
I'm in Ireland and after Christmas I'm heading into Dublin to Petersons to buy my first proper pipe. Really looking forward to it
Nice. I was thinking of ordering a Peterson one day.

Truly enjoy your channel!
I often smoke my pipe in the beautiful countryside of Dorset, sat under my favourite tree, just a stone throw from my house.
Fortunately for me, I have friends who also smoke pipes and there is a local club near me. Even in the US where I live, it is rare to see anyone with a pipe. Very sad as it is a pleasure more could enjoy.

Cool!
Great video! Thank you! I've been smoking a pipe for 52 years.
I really want to take up pipe smoking rather than cigarettes 🚬 as the tobacco is purer. Are there ladies pipes?
Finally! Another pipe smoker who appreciates a glass of milk when they smoke. Most of my friends, when I tell them I drink milk when I smoke they laugh at me lol

It's fun to collect vintage petrol lighters too because they are beautiful and well made.
Really enjoyed you’re pipe smoking stuff. We are starting a revolution lol😂
I think that Twinings Rooibos tea goes very well with a pipe. It's so smooth.
love this Richard, didn't know you had a second channel. Subscribed.
Great video Richard 👏 Im a newer piper smoker and just started my own channel. I love your content keep it up!!
Enjoyable channel Richard - kind of Downton Abby like which I mean as a compliment - loved that show

Great video. I've been smoking a pipe on and off for about 50 years (74 now). I also do a bit of blending.
Really like your enthusiasm coming into pipe smoking
I love this video. You bought back memories. A tobacco that smelt sweet. Thankyou Richard.x X

You should hold that type of pipe by the stem when it’s warm so the bowl can color nicely
Where did i read this? A cigarette is like watching an advert, a cigar is like watching a film, a pipe is like reading a book....
I have Organic coffee with my pipe work well together. I am buying Flake pipe tobacco at the minute have to hand rub it for the pipe but it's great. I started smoking a pipe on your first video Richard.

Sam Gawith's full virginia flake is number one on tobacco reviews for a reason. British company and highly recommended straight Virginia. Try it
I have been enjoying different kinds of tea and coffee with my pipes but definitely gonna give milk a go!

Well said, more please!
My Grandfather used to smoke the pipe its one thing I will always Remember him for
Mentioning the block tobaccos, I would highly recommend Peterson’s “3Ps” blend.
Thank you.I never thought of drinking milk with my smoke. It would definitely coat my tongue where I don't get tongue bite as much.
Thanks Richard, now looking to buy a pipe.
Love your videos.just wait till the bowl gets carbonised. Won’t go out as much.
I remember an uncle pipe smoking. The lounge was well aired, so when I walked in the room the smell wasn't stale. When he freshly lit, the smell was devine. He mostly smoked Borkum Riff; but rarely something different. Memories….🥹
I like the black cherry flavoured tobacco the most.
If you get a chance try peterson's connoisseurs choice, it's absolutely gorgeous
Wonderful, enjoy it…. I love mine!
I've been drinking exclusively raw milk, also, for at least the last fifteen years. It cured my two seasons of hay fever that I'd suffered from since childhood.
All that’s now required is a decent flat cap. I bet the smell of old books & the pipe is quite unique scent in there.
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUU ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I recommend Chocom 3.
Wow. I’ve had tea, coffee, water of course and cocktails with friends at my local spot in the city. Never considered milk though! lol. Guess I will

There is a pipe club in London that meets every month.
Have you come across Malcolm Guite's YT channel - a pipe smoker and poet, definitely worth watching his channel.
just what I've been looking into recently, It appears to be quite successful here with seeds available to grow your own, as long as you don't sell it, would make an excellent bartering product!
Have a pipe with a nice cup of coffee! Wonderful!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video love the pipe content.

Have you thought of joining the pipe club of London? I find it very nice.
One of lifes simple pleasures
My Brother grew tobacco in his garden, in Dorset UK.
It grew really well, huge leaves.
The problem came in curing the stuff.
He followed the rules, but still ended up burning his taste buds with the Ammonia from the tobacco. He rolled Cigars.
I think he might have rushed it. I suspect it takes a long time and much washing, to get rid of the Ammonia.

You should try Samuel Gawith’s 1792. The best of tobaccos.
When I was married some years back, I made my (now ex) wife a pipe. It had a ceramic bowl shaped as a mischievous goblin head with gold earings, and the stem was seasoned elderwood. I've no idea if he still has it.
If you're ever in York on a Wednesday evening, come to The Swan and have a bowl full with the rest of The York Pipe Club (all three of us).
I will be in York on Wednesday evening and I smoke a pipe! Maybe I shall bring it to the swan
Smoking a couple of bowls of your favorite tobacco and a whiskey and soda...
GREAT!!
I remember a Universal DRACULA sequel. One scene shows the Lord of the Manor showing off his newest pipe acquisitions in his den. 12:12
Great pipe, Richard! 5:43
