The thing that has me so messed up about this song is when you listen to the instrumental part of it it's fiery, it's passionate, it's sexual as fuck. But when you actually listen to what she is saying in the lyrics you feel gross because on one level the song makes you feel very kind of almost bothered. But then when you realize what it's actually about it makes your skin actually crawl. And I think that's what's beautiful about this song is because it's such a intense message that really needs to be learned about unhealthy power dynamics within relationships. I think the word that brains was looking for also might have been intimate or intimacy? Simply because like that is something that you're allowing somebody into your space both physically and sexually. And with him basically minimizing her after she was intimate with him is basically a symbol of having him have ownership not only of her mind but also over her body too. Because once she has given herself to him he can basically utilize that and utilize the fact that she is now considered unclean by most likely Purity culture standards which unfortunately is pushed in a lot of cultures Douglasville where you come from. So unfortunately for the the women there is the sense of feeling like your body isn't yours once giving it over to somebody like that. And then to have somebody manipulate you mentally because they have had access to you bodily can cause a lot of psychological harm
10:55 that thought never crossed my mind, but after you brought it up and elaborated. Totally clicked in my head and made me sick lol. This is why I enjoy listening to y'all's interpretation of songs, opens my mind to things I wouldn't have thought of. Happy New years!!! 🥳
This is definitely my favourite reaction, I’ve listened to this song many times and the different perspective you both did gave me a different view of this and I just love u both!!❤
and it's cool that Melanie makes songs with things that happen in real life, like this one and I thought it was really cool that Melanie brought that up.
I would recommend some songs but you 2 do such a great job of understanding of what she's trying to do and the messages behind the songs, that please just react to all of her songs 🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
12:34 no it shouldnt be like that and a lot of women doesnt feel that way. Women sexuality is not a shame thing and we wont feel lil for that. If a betch thinks they are better that them just because they had s*x, they have problems too. Cuz woman sexuality is as normal as men's. If both sizes are happy with that and they wanted it. Thats not "giving something from your soul" f that lol. Thinking like this is misogynism.
10:58 While I find that scenario very funny, I think the lollipop was just another childlike theme where bad men use candy to lure in children. I have my problems with how Melanie dealt with this concept in this song. Teacher-student relationships aren’t just an issue of ethics. It’s about power imbalances. It’s about law we have to protect children. It’s about an adult’s pedophilic attraction to children (I know there’s different terms for attraction to children under 19 but they’re all kids so). The song is from the perspective of the student who is being taken advantage of. We see her try to work through her experiences with this man. I think, as Beard mentioned, the song does touch on the power a teacher has over a student, which makes this whole “relationship” inappropriate. But even more so, this should be about a 16(?) year old kid being taken advantage of. Although I am aware that due to the song being from the perspective of the student, she has a more naive perspective and her lyrics read like a “break-up” or “being the second choice” song. At the end, there’s some, “you can’t control me, you don’t own me,” narrative but nowhere in the song we actually get a proper dismissal of or a stance against adults, especially teachers, taking advantage of teen kids, which is the topic. There are subtle underlying meanings here and there but I doubt it translates properly to Melanie’s young audience. I’ve seen this song used for so many teacher/student edits that I think this song did more damage than good. She should’ve been more diligent and aware when it comes to sharing the student’s perspective without a proper “against” message in the song.
everyone perceives the message differently. the song and video speaks for itself when it comes to the basics of power dynamic and pedophilia. the truth is the younger generation will completely ignore the message of a song if it has a catchy sound. that’s not melanie’s fault when you speak of the edits online. she has a song called “a million men” which you should listen to. people tried to attack her for writing that song because of how raw and real it was. she’s doing way more on this subject and many others than any other mainstream artist at the moment. sounds like she damned if she does or doesn’t.
@@ruetoo well, that’s the thing. the song and the video speak but the message is very subtly communicated and as i mentioned, her main audience, young girls, won’t, and don’t, get that. she’s definitely responsible for how her music is interpreted. this isn’t a general statement but you don’t want some concepts to be misinterpreted, like pedophilic relationships. art speaks for itself and is open to interpretation, but as i said, i feel like there should’ve been more clear wording or guidance with this song for it to actually achieve what she was trying to do. i appreciate melanie for dabbling in the topic. you’re right, it doesn’t get a lot of attention. but melanie has used metaphors of childhood to tell stories her whole career. she’s accumulated a very young audience and she often sends social messages like this, which i love. so yes, she’s responsible that her song about pedophilia doesn’t get misinterpreted by the most important audience, young girls.
Subscribed! Day 1 of BEGGING you guys to react to Big Bad Wolf by Lil Wayne. He goes absolutely insane with wordplay and I think you two would both love to decipher and analyse that song.
i understand what she was saying, as women we’re taught that we need to be “pure” so we might feel guilty and judged after doing something sexual
The meaning of teachers pet is pedophilia
No it’s about pedophilia….
bruh 16 to 18 years old girl must to stop trying to bang teachers lol like wtf i get elder men are hot but chill

Melanie does show the stance against the adults the girl Angelita who the song is about kills the teacher at the end
I think if you connect the dots you'd get the point. Remember the song can't be _that_ dark
