- In this video, Chris shows how to plan and test RGB Christmas Lights with WLED before you install them on your house. He discovers data signal issues and shows how to fix them. These are RGB LED pixels that work with free WLED software. Each bulb can be set to any of 16 million colors. You can create any patterns you want, change them anytime, animate them, and even create a light show with music.

Awesome video showing how to use the controller and the Data-Booster boards, everything spot on and a great install! :D
Thanks for making your awesome Dig boards! 👍🏻
Nice!
Thanks 😊
They don’t have anymore of those quad boards I’ve been looking but nice video and thanks for including links to products
These things sold out shortly after my videos were released, just because it’s that time of year.
If you want to do specialty lights next year, set a reminder to buy everything you need in early September. That’s how I got everything.
If you lived somewhere where it stays warm in Dec, what would you do to alleviate heat concerns in the power supply protection box that wouldn't affect it's weather proofing?
Maybe the make ventilated boxes.
How did you attach and mount the antenna to the outdoor enclosure? What size drill bit did you use? Also, the wire lead on my antenna appears to be shorter than yours. Suggestions on how to extend that? Maybe just use some 20 or 22 gauge wire?
I don’t remember the size of the drill bit. Just take off the nut from the antenna and find a drill bit a little bigger than the hole.
You can’t extend that because it’s a shielded wire. Move the controller closer to the side.
From your links product list . I purchased 7 RGB C9 light strings, DIG-UNO LED controller, 12V 15A power supply and pig tails. When connected i can get channel LED 1 to work perfectly but channel LED 2 only the first pixel light comes. WLED in LED preference i added second channel GPIO-3 with adding number of lights only the first pixel light turns. When i turn lights off the one pixel on channel LED 2 stays on. what am i during wrong any ideas or help i will appreciate any help thank you
Double check the wiring. You may have crossed the leads.
Curious would the Alitove pixels from Amazon work the same way just without the C9 cover??
Yes they should, but they don’t have weatherproof connectors and the wires are colored instead of black.
I bought the digqaud and love it. DrZzs is the man. He has a great channel.
Such a chill, authentic dude.
OK so I bit, I bought all these items and now I'm trying to set everything up. I get 1 or two leds to light up. What Am I missing?
What controller did you get? Check that WLED is accessible. Check the pigtail is connected correctly. Check the power supply voltage matches your strings. Test with just one string first.
If you can’t figure it out, I suggest asking on Reddit /r/wled but you’ll need to share details about everything you bought.
Hello! I love your content, you have a wealth of info here. I'm planning on installing c9 LED lights on the roofline of my house. I need roughly 7 strands of lights, 50 bulbs each. Can I do that with the WLED or do I need multiple connectors? I purchased the GE Color Changing LED RGB C9 bulbs. Thanks!
You can drive 350 lights with WLED, but you’ll need to put them on two channels or you’ll need to inject power.
BTW, I doubt those strings are compatible with WLED.
@@handydadtv What kind should I purchase to go with WLED? Thanks for the response!
I put a link in the description, but they’re sold out for the year. But you can read the item description. You want to look for string with WS28xx chips, such as WS2811.
@@handydadtv Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!
Hey where can I purchase these lights? The links you provided are sold out. Also do you purchase the bulb cover separately or do they come all together in the package?
My strings were manufactured with the bulb covers and 6” spacing. I wouldn’t want to put covers on standard bullet pixels because they have 3” spacing and that’s much too close for C9. Even 6” is closer than I’d like.
It’s December. You missed the boat this year. Set a reminder to buy everything you need in September.
I might have missed it but where did you get the wires to connect the dig uno to the power supply?
Just lamp cord I had on hand.
Could you do a video where you show creating the programs in the WLED app?
I’m no WLED expert, but I’ll show how I make the patterns in another video.
Today’s video shows how to do custom color combinations.
How did to you connect the wreath on the house, is it with an extension ? how can we have different light on wreath or Christmas tree when we are using the same controller ?
The wreath will be connected from the end of the C9 string with an extension.
WLED let’s you have multiple segments regardless of the outputs. So my wreath can have a different pattern than the C9’s even though they are connected.
@@handydadtv Yes, so if you watch the video at 1:00, it shows the routing of the string. Wreath is at the end of it. Exampl: total length of all the LEDs is 200. The Wreath is 50 LEDs. So you would create 2 segments in WLED. 1 segment being LED 150 to 200 for the wreath. Segment 2 for 0 - 149 or something like that. If it's in line somewhere for the wreath it would be a segment of led 70 to 120 (if wreath is 50 leds). Using whole #s to make the example easy, but it would happen that led #s are going to be 73 - 123 or something like that.
Hello Chris. What is the difference between the dig-uno and the dig-quad. What would be a suitable power supply for 800 lights? Can the dig quads 4 channels be separately controlled in WLED ? Thanks for the great video.
The Dig Uno and Quad function exactly the same, just with four channels. Plus the Quad has more fuses and can handle more power.
As for power supply, the lights will tell you how many watts each bulb requires. Mine were 0.8 watts so we’ll use this for your example. Multiply that by the number of bulbs. So 0.8 x 500 = 400 watts.
Next, divide the watts by the voltage of your lights (they all need to be the same). I used 12v.
400 / 12 = 33.3 amps + 20% = 40 amps
So in this example, you’d need a 12V 40A power supply. They cost around $25.
FYI, I’m going to be adding lights and upgrading to a Dig Quad this year. More videos to come!
@@handydadtv Chris. Thank you so much for the quick reply. The information you is exactly what I was looking for. The water tight enclosure you have. What size box was that? It seems to have many options on the link. Looking forward to see your new videos.
11.2"x7.7"x5.1"
@@handydadtv thank you Chris.
Nice video, the Big Uno LED Controllers are out of stock. Do you recommend another controller that is WLED?...
Athom makes one with WLED pre-installed.
Otherwise, you can build a Dig-Uno from scratch, or possibly just use an ESP32 on a breadboard to get you going until the Uno is back in stock.
Or the NodeMCU which is even cheaper.
Just be mindful that the ESP boards require 5 volts.
What app did you use to add lights and the wreath to the roof?
WLED
Could you use xlight instead of WLED?
Xlights is software. You still need a hardware based controller to drive the LEDs. You can buy another brand of controller but WLED works with Xlights just as well.
hello again, the two ends that you have plugged into the dig-uno, are those extension wires you cut down?
No, they are pigtails sold specifically for that purpose.
@@handydadtv do you have a link on where to buy them?
Yes in the description. “X Connect pigtails”
@@handydadtv cant thank you enough for your help
My pleasure
watch that it does not over heat i have the same set up just about i am going to try to vent it
I had no issue last year but I’m adding lights this year so it might be more of a concern. How will you vent it and keep it weatherproof?
fyi, the ebay links are dead (ali express and/or amazon?)
eBay is out of stock.
Never saw them on Amazon.
AliExpress is slow and expensive shipping.
Best to shop in September.
@@handydadtv they say unlisted now -I think if they come back in stock on ebay, it will probably use a different URL / listing (these links will never spring back to life - ebay listings are ephemeral). Not everything on aliexpress is expensive shipping, but yeah gotta be careful (it's slow, yes, but I'm going to wait for other strips from there anyway).
I’ll update the link when they create a new listing.
Can you do this to my house? I’m in nj too lol
Not even if you lived next door.
