I'm really loving the editing style! Also, I get why some people don't like the office bits, but the hours spent on the "boring" things make the exciting things possible.
A question that would be on a few peoples minds:
Have you ever dropped stuff to the bottom of your quenching tank? 😂
Every blacksmith has, I'm sure. Just like anything, you can prepare the best you can and things still go wrong sometimes.
I’m sure they have, In my welding shop we have lost a few pieces while quenching practice joints, so we just grab a big magnet and fish it out. They most likely do the same
In some of his old videos he has
Ahhh magnet on a stick makes heaps of sense, i was thinking somethin stupid like drain and flip the tank hahaha

@@fredrikcarlen3212 Not everyone lives in the USA y'know. Most countries are actually civilized, and in those you can't just buy a gun randomly anytime anywhere. Shocking thought for a murican, I know, but that's how life goes outside of your country.
@@GreyPunkWolf I'm from Sweden.. But I suppose anyone who disagrees with you must be a "murican", as if they're the only ones who believe human rights..
Our criminals have guns just as anywhere else, it doesn't matter which country you're in. People who don't care about the law don't care about the law, and will buy guns whatever some politicians say. Pretty obvious huh?
Just because our governments have decided to make us easier targets for criminals and tyrants alike doesn't mean we're "civilized", quite the opposite.
@@fredrikcarlen3212 Most of the assaults committed in countries with a 0 tolerance gun policy aren't coming from firearms.
They exist in the black market still, I agree on that, but that's why we have whole sections of police departments dedicated to online crime. Pedo tracking isn't their only job, drug and gun control is a big part of it too.
I've been watching this channel since the 'old, old workshop' days. It has been amazing to see you work and persist and take joy in your experiences. So satisfying to see someone live as proof that hard work and passion pays off. From one human to another, I'm proud of you!

Alec, you really should consider scheduling at least a few days each week when you do nothing but forging and/or other metalwork. No reading e-mails (if they sent an e-mail rather than call you, it can probably wait), no phone calls (with the exception of scheduled calls and emergencies). Dawdle and procrastinate all you want, but the only business you should be doing on such days is plugging your (or your sponsors') products :)
@@daniel_charms That would greatly diminish the quality of service his company offers. Slower response times means a greater chance the customers will look elsewhere.

In the UK secondary education, equivalent to HS in us ends at 16, where further education, sort of like tech school, takes over but it's optional. If he completed the program through the age of 16 he has his equivalent of a HS diploma.
This changed recently, so people born after 1997 have compulsive education until 18. Idk if at the time Alec stepped outa education they had curriculum end at 16 or 18 though.
Yep, he's growing up...
He's even losing his memory, forgetting about stuff he put in the oven....

I dont comment much about that is a beautiful piece. I am 15 and I'm from Canada and I have been trying to learn how to forge for the longest time. I have been using my mother's very small propane forge from when she was a farrier and used that forge to reshape horseshoes. I just recently learned that my great grandfather had a coal forge and I discovered it in our old barn. I am currently trying to repair it. Thank you guys so much for these videos. I love watching them because of your enthusiasm and how well you two work together. The work that you do is amazing. Also I have learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you

This video was posted 3 days after my B-Day and with the soft spot I have for sword canes and your Channel Alec what a treat this whole build was for me man AWESOME!! I would love to get my hands on one of the variants of this cane. Awesome guys truly a masterpiece.

Editor: ruthless with “delete” is key.
Having said that, audio/video footage and editing has matured like the shop. Very creative, professional, and fun catching the little unexpected things. The sound of a pneumatic die grinder-turned- musical- instrument was great. If you created that background music instead of finding it, then you are above and beyond.
OK boys, more whack whack, get dirty, make things.

I love little behind the scenes things like this episode. It makes me happy getting to watch your brand and shop grow from the tiny one man shop in the UK to everything you have now
This is absolutely one of my favourite things you have ever done, since I started following 2+ years ago. I would love to own this for my Kingpin Cosplay.
Considering its Halloween later this month, a "velvet pimp costume" would go nicely with the cane. 🤣🤣🤣
"I've just had a stupid and reckless idea"
Well, it's not stupid if it works!! :)
Who else thought that in the beginning of the video he was excited for snow? 😂😂
Snow is quite rare in England. Soon it will be rare in Scotland too :(
Neil Wilson they aren't on england my guy😂, but yes that is very sad
Love the thanks to This Old Tony. You both make excellent content in very different ways.
This is the first modern sword cane I've seen that equals the beauty of canes from over a hundred years ago.
Bloody well done!
while its neat that you used steel for the head of the cane you typically want to use a somewhat soft material to keep from marring the surfaces you hit with it for one and two they also make it slippery and poor for finding purchase
Bigger problem I have is the top of the sheath being steel, blade gonna dull on that.
Love your work man. Been with the channel almost since the beginning, but please separate the knife work from the office work into separate videos. I was super excited to see a 20 min video but almost half of it was office stuff. Don’t get me wrong, love the updates as well but they should be separate. Keep up the work, much love!
I agree.
I just have never gotten in to vloging.
Before you know it half of the videos will be him talking while driving and shopping.
1978garfield I’m ok with that. I love the work updates but it should be a separate series. Alec is the guy who got me into bladesmithing I’ll follow him to the day he closes shop. I just wanted to see him succeed in all his endeavors the man deserves it.
that was a good this old tony cut on the lathe
I was hit on my motorcycle on the 4th. Broken spine wrist leg all sorts of things. And here you guys are finishing the cane sword on the day I’m back home and walking with the assistance of....a cane. How convenient! Wish I could afford to buy this project. Lol
Think this might be my favourite build of all the swords it's definitely in my top 3. It's something I've always wanted to own or even make myself. I love the design and concept of the Sword Cane and the one you've made is a very fine example. I love the simple design and shape of the blade. I especially love the tang and the metal case top that joins the 2 pieces together the simple design and shape are perfect with the pattern of the demascus which the etch on again matches perfectly with the colour and grain of that wood really suits it. Beautiful.
“WHAT?! Feel that will”😂😂😂
Will: **prancing through grinding room** “Hippity hoppity **shink** it’s time for you to die...”
I’d like to make one of these. Could come in handy at my age. 🤣
My dad had one for ten years, but he never went out with it. He had a knife version he'd use instead. If you want one for self defense get something either short, or if you're strong enough, blunt.
Your Sexualized Grandparents makes sense. I’d probably make it though.
Check your local laws before carrying one.
Also if you actually need a cane you may fall over if you ever have to use the sword.
Main reason I don't own an umbrella cane.
I could walk or stay dry but not both.
1978garfield I’m good. I have a carry permit which expands the sorts of tools I can carry. Of course in GA it’s pretty lenient to start with.
Top notch cinematography. Fantastic! JB
Yes, the camera can most definitely hear it. Also, my ears are aching something fierce now.
On a less painful note, love that false edge. Makes the blade seem that much more sophisticated.
c'mon guys! less yack yack, more whack whack!
With all that Dykem and we didn't get the song I knew then that Alec the Craftsman was going away and Alec the Business man had taken his place.
i feel the same way.. i miss the old content, i love this channel but like 2/3 of any video now is office stuff and i work in an office and use this as an escape from that..

Still a huge fan but would love to see the same guy that build the “million layer katana” again.
We will be watching him do his taxes before long :(
Or the other youtube staples talking while driving and shopping.

Great job, that cane sword is so cool. The shot in slow motion milling out on the lathe was sooo cool! OMG that sound was horrible, my head almost exploded. Also, 4:15 aluminized kevlar? You're American now for sure, you didn't say Aluminiumized XD
Even we germans calling it "Aluminium" say "aluminierd" aka "aluminized"...
Alec's becoming a true American RUclipsr now lmao. Just missing a couple weird zooms and face distortions
Edit: not being negative, I enjoy it
We can definitely hear it. That’s like a dog whistle no one can own cause it will make the dog go deaf.
I fell in love with the sound of the blade coming out of the cane/scabbard. I hope we'll get to see some cutting & thrusting tests
Man I love the filming of your office business. Will would always be on camera saying you went into the office and I had no idea you really did so much in there ! I love it and I love watching you. You make talking about the sponsors so intriguing as well ! Love it
Learned so much from this channel and love watching the builds but please tone it back a bit with the ad's, sponsors and merch pushing.
The adds are far and few between.
Alec actually uses some of his sponsors and they hardly push merch.
These guys make there living on RUclips and adds, merch, and sponsors are a huge help.
It’s really cool but I wish it had like the curved handle
@@oxc513 I don't think owning a cane sword really goes with an ascetic lifestyle at all...
