Hey Joe,. My 26 yr old son just made this his st ever new car purchase yesterday 11/12/22. It was his 1st big purchase. I was pretty surprised to this plug in hybrid model. Has all those bells & whistles that you mentioned in your video. Thanks for the informative video & keep up the great work you n Steve are doing!!
We were looking to buy a new vehicle to replace our 2009 Kia Rondo. I really liked the reviews and the EV range of the RAV4 Prime, and decided to go inquire about a test drive of one at one of the local Toyota dealers in Calgary, Canada. Imagine how much disappointment set in when the dealer said we would be waiting about THREE YEARS to get one! Scratch that off the list! Looked at the Kia Niro PHEV and took the EV version out for a test drive and enjoyed it enough to put our name in for a PHEV in Blue, subject to a successful test drive of the PHEV. We did have to wait…we put our order in on January 20th, 2024, and we were able to take delivery of our car on August 20th. So far, we have been definitely taking advantage of the EV only mode, charging overnight on a regular 110V outlet (no need to have a Level 2 charger), the battery charges from 10% to 100% in about 8 hours. We’ve got over 1100KM on the odometer and we’ve still got a half tank of gas from the delivery of the car. I may actually realize my dream of only needing 12 fills of the gas tank in a year! A PHEV really does give you the best of both worlds.
Thanks for your video. In comparing the plug in Niro with a RAV 4 Prime. there are major differences. All the RAV 4 Primes are all wheel drive. There is a spare tire under the rear cargo cover. Flat tire kits are useless if you are 5-10 miles in the woods with no cell phone coverage and you have a sidewall damaged tire. Be prepared to have a nice hike. We have a 2022 RAV 4 Prime SE model now with 10,000 miles on the odometer. Currently getting 45=50 miles on a full electric charge, as well as 45+ MPG in hybrid mode with a depleted battery. Also the RAV 4 Prime has a heat pump so the gas engine will not turn on in electric operation even in cold weather I like the RAV 4 looks much better than the Niro. The Niro's rear quarter panel looks somewhat odd, as if it was an afterthought. Kia could have knocked it out of the park with a true all wheel drive model to compete with a RAV 4 Prime, which by the way are nearly impossible to find especially at MSRP.
@Mica Welsh It's funny how they are hurting financially when there is so much demand for the vehicles. Management needs a major shake-up and clean house.
Well not only are the Toyota dealerships empty of any Hybrid vehicles so are the Kia dealerships . Ours had one electric version and said that they didn’t expect to have any hybrid versions to sell for six months. If you want one you better put you’re name on the list.
I am very interested in the PHEV version of this. Not in the market to replace my 2016 Hyundai, but when I can't work my manual transmission with ease due to my legs, I would definitely go for a plug-in hybrid and this just nails all aspects of a vehicle I'd like to own.
You have to admit that Kia is nailing it. They're producing high quality, offering more value for the price, and a great design. Pick any version and you won't be disappointed. Folks don't worry about resale value and reliability, the key reasons why Toyota is chosen, if you were to own of these vehicles you're going to keep them for a long time and resale value won't matter. I'm willing to bet that reliability is going to be there and I'm definitely looking at Kia for my next ride. Though I got to admit, I'm not a big fan of the EV6 - just don't have a feel for it like I do for the new Sportage and Niro. Great reviews of the Niro Team Raiti.
Innovative and value. They don’t copy everyone else and when you look at interior you feel like you are getting something for your $$$ Looks good in that color and those wheels. 👍 not loving the wide gloss black piece in back. Can you get single body color ?
That is a sweet niro I used to have a 2019 niro ex premium it was so nice I hated when I traded it for the CX-5 but we have an amazing terrain denali now Kia has done amazing with the new niro great job joe and Lori
I don't mind the way that the Niro looks, but I really do love the other s material for the side panel on the EV version. Just like at the NY Auto Show, I'll zonk that hell of amount of gloss black on that panel Joe.
One is a Kia. The other is a Toyota. Toyota is the gold standard when it comes to hybrid technology in vehicles with a proven track record of hybrid efficiency, power & reliability. If you like the looks & interior of the Kia, then buy the Kia.
I have a 2017 Prius V 4 and love it. I get all of my windsurfing an DJ gear in it with no problem. I test drove the Niro EV Wave and loved it. I didn’t want to get out of the car. I wanted to keep driving and driving and driving and I absolutely hate driving but I finally returned it to the dealer. I would’ve bought it on the spot but I was concerned about the cargo area. The lift gate slopes too much. So I’m considering the 2025 Toyota RAV4 prime. However I would love to go all electric someday.
Traded an XC90 for a 23 Niro PHEV. Volvo was too large and gas hungry for our needs. Absolutely love the Niro so far. Drove it 90 miles from the dealership, mostly highway and averaged 37mpg with mostly dead battery. Averaged 45mpg on my 15 mile mixed commute in HEV mode with full battery and was able to drive back home on battery only! As someone who has experience with CVT's, I prefer the 6 speed in the Niro any day of the week. Also test drove the EV6, what a ride! But not many charging stations in my area and my solar system is not built out to handle it.......yet!

I think the part where the larger grill at the bottom and the top portion that black piece, in between then us the tiger nose finish. It just isn’t as prominent as you would expect on most Kia models.

The full tank of gas could last someone with a garage at home about a month if their commute is short around town driving full electric to run errands and work.
My question is what’s the difference between the regular hybrid and the plug-in hybrid? Is it just the ability to plug it in vs no ability? I know there’s a difference in horse power and things of that nature. I currently have a Ford Fusion hybrid and like it very much. Was planning on getting a new one in a year or two until Ford decided to not make cars anymore. So now I’m looking at hybrids from other manufacturers and I don’t like the styling of the Toyota rav-4. Just wondering if a plug-in hybrid woks the same as a regular hybrid but adds the ability to plug in or is it completely different? I don’t want to get a full EV because I occasionally take trips to neighboring states and feel a full EV won’t get me there. I also live in an apartment and can’t get a plug added to where I live.
I love how Kia doesn't put CVTs in their hybrids (same with sister conglomerate Hyundai). I'm still a big fan of Honda's, Subaru's and Toyota's CVTs and eCVTs so far, the only CVTs I'd stay away from are Nissan's and Infiniti's as well as Mitsubishi's because their CVTs are nothing but trouble. Love this new Niro so far. $7500 Fed. Tax Credit, here I come!
Nissans and Mitsubishi make crappy cars in general. I'd rather buy a Ford and this is coming from someone that will never buy American cars in my lifetime.
But it does have the tiger nose look. It's just in reverse. Typically, it's the actual grill in that shape. Here, the grill pieces put the body panels into that shape.
How about a comparison to the new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with an EV range in excess of 40 Miles and features that neither Kia or the Rav 4 prime offer.
I would seriously consider this car, because i could use a compact SUV. But the quarter panel is so ghastly I can't stand it! Why on earth would they do gloss black. They need to spank the designer! And call me old-fashioned, but i refuse to have a car that lacks a spare tire. I have had a dozen flats in my life, and these inflation solutions are bogus.

I read in the comments that someone said, that this car is better than the RAV4 Prime and all i'm gonna is NEVER. Kia/Hyundai has very beautiful car designs they beat Toyota in that, definitely... But in quality and long lasting Toyota takes the win, but i'm not saying Toyota is perfect, Toyota might get their small problems but fixes it, but Kia/Hyundai on the other hand does have the same recalls over n over again.
actually kid, toyota has way more recalls than Hyundai and KIA. I think you should do some research on toyota before making yourself look like a clown here.
@@moezpadani8088 again kid, you need to log off and do your research since you don't know nothing about cars. You're just another jealous troll who doesn't like KIA's success.
Good review, sensible car. I don’t understand why Kia and sometimes Hyundai insist on putting the turn signals low on the rear bumper in many of their SUV’s. In traffic situations, the low mounted turn signals are not visible to other drivers, particularly 2-3 cars behind the turning vehicle. I like to see ALL the information of what other cars are doing around me when I am driving.
Why on earth would u compare it to a rav4!? Joe you really dropped the ball on this one.. the sportage goes against rav4 not this! This a Prius or Corolla cross competitor!
As usual, I absolutely love what Hyundai and Kia are doing. This thing looks the part and is sure to stand out from the crowd. Having said that, there are still some issues with the redesigned Niro. I feel as though they sacrificed interior material quality for a focus on exterior style and LED lighting. For the price, I would assume that both the exterior and interior were given the same levels of attention. Even though the tech and general aesthetic of the interior is great, the amount of hard touch and gloss black materials is unacceptable. What’s with that huge portion of gloss black smothered all over the door panels? That has to go. Gloss black no longer looks premium to anyone who knows a thing or two about the automotive industry. When I see it, all I can think about is smudges and scratches.
I don't need another car, I just love your channel, the enthusiasm cheers me up.
Dammit I bought another car. Subaru Outback

@@Sunjib12345 ya . We have done our homework on both. Other then the extra distance per change ( about 20 km) more and the heat pump which is why it get's a little more range. O and the Toyota name and resell value.
The rave 4 is also butt ugly . I mesm really ugly . Inside and out. The interior is extremely out dated .
Hi Joe love the reviews, no spare and my wife gets a flat tire in the middle of nowhere what does she do.
Thanks for the review, I love how detail you are in your reviews. But leave the corny jokes at home... Smh 😂
Holy smokes.. great pricing.
@@buzz4217 kia sold only 0.5M cars last year so I would be shocked if they recalled more than Toyota.
@@moezpadani8088 again kid, you need to log off and do your research since you don't know nothing about cars. You're just another jealous troll who doesn't like KIA's success.
Prime is awd with proven Toyota reliability and killer resale values. No comparison
You are so right about that!
I agree...makes no sense to me.
Every cross over is compared to the Rav 4. Standard and bar is set too high on the rav 4 prime. Everything compares nothing beats it
Also zero availability unfortunately
@@L3x4Pr0ne they had them available when I was out shopping for one but ended up getting the Tucson phev because they wanted 8-10k over msrp
I expected a more indepth comparison with RAV4, but the video talks mostly about the Niro.
Sorry about that Sai!
"Encinta family friendly drag show" brought me here....
Awd?
I think that piece of gloss black by the rear window just looks..............ODD!!🙄🤔
Maybe the whole vehicle should just be painted gloss black 🤣🤣
Good thing that's optional.
The tiger nose is there. It’s infused into the design extremely well.
The Rav 4 win only from the AWD side and ground clearance
Please can you tell the designer kia, bumper is not place to signal very bad idea 💡😁
I’d take it over a model Y any day
Kia Soul PHEV 🤔
Almost 600 miles in the standard ? Goood god.
Review time y’all!!
Why people complain about leather seats but it's ok with McDonalds, burger king and steak houses .....just asking for a friend
Why on earth would u compare it to a rav4!? Joe you really dropped the ball on this one.. the sportage goes against rav4 not this! This a Prius or Corolla cross competitor!
lots of car for little money, i expect this to be hard to find at dealers
The only downside to this is you can’t get AWD.
A little too much "gloss black" on the exterior, and especially on the door interior 🤔🙄
constructive criticism here, please stopp yelling
That real panel gloss black panel is hideous
Mein 6 Jahre / 115.000 km alter Ioniq hat eine glänzend schwarze Mittelkonsole und bis heute KEINEN einzigen Kratzer.
Front end kinda looks like a Corolla se
I see it some.
