if you are Maus you can one shot this thing from the front with Pzgr 43, shoot the driver optics right below the gun. If the shell doesn´t pen (which it should) the overpressure will kill all the crew :D All this provided the Obj didn't already kill you with its stabilizer lol

i pend a t72( the prem ) with that AA from the usa tec tree with proxy rounds and killed it from the front😂 i have also pened a t80 with a 50cal and killed the driver as well like tf 😂
I’ve been playing the cheiftain a lot and honestly it’s quite a good counter to the 279 because it’s armour is so good against APHE, still worse but a fun fight
I miss when the black camos had a unique effect on decals, where they would basically turn everything into a gray silhouette. Looked so good with the fire decals.
this tank should be an off meta choice not something that is basically unobtainable and ruins 7.7-8.7 matches. its like kv1E but high br and even more broken, but gaijin wont nerf it becasue "it performs bad" as they say with the kv1E too which is just most likely a lie.
One thing to note is that the armor shouldn't be able to bounce dm23/33, but it does. And it does it incredibly consistently. Ive been grinding out 9.0 italy and just today i saw like 8 of these. Using dm23 i was only able to pen one a single time. And thats not to say i dont know where the weak spots are, this thing just evaporates them.

@@sushiman3817 it does not bounce anything if you place your shot in his center of mass. Sometimes "gaijined" happens but this happens all the time regardless of the tank. I mean. If you can't penetrate 200-300mm of armour with darts or heat it's skill issue.

funnily enough I dont have an issue with these things playing 8.7 china, most people ive come up against with em have just held w thinking theyre invincible, but the HEAT and APFSDS the 8.7 chinese tanks can pretty handily take care of these.
I got it from the event but I stopped playing after getting it because that event burnt me out so I never got to use it at 8.3 but the br changes are allowing me to see how it was back then

The 279 was my first crafting event and I completed it without spending any cash. However, gaijin refused to reward me what I needed for the black camo. Sucked
How so? For the skin you just needed to play the space fight event around that spacestation. It was not really difficult or time consuming as the current events are. It was quite easy to get the skin.
@@jasoncrawford4929 still don't understand what you mean. You needed to play the space event and you got paint dropped for any number of minutes in the battle. It was not too hard to get it. With enough motivation you were able to get more than one. The skin as completed skin only dropped rarely you needed to assemble it... I kinda regretted that later that I did not get the AU-1 black cammo. However, since they returned in those ever so often boxes you could buy them on the marked for less than 5 GJN, so I got the black AU-1 years later. You should have gotten it then. Even the obj. black skin was going cheap then.
I have the 279, and when it fist came out, holy shit was I dominating. After a while, it got a few indirect nerfs with the addition of more stabilized APFSDS and HEATFS slingers, not to mention people with thermals at its BR, it felt mediocre at times. If you got full up-tiered, you were fucked. Now, with it's pen buffed, and its worst nemesis brought up in BR, it dominated like no other. The other match, I was bouncing APFSDS and APDS left and right while I was one shotting everything! With this update, I am just getting double ace games often, its bonkers lmao.

I've been seeing 279s almost every single game (sometimes multiple at a time) ever since this update. I thought this tank was incredibly expensive and rare or something, where did they all come from and how tf do I kill it?
So it is rare, but for a long time its been really fucking unpleasant to play because it lretry much lived in a full 9.7 uptier. Playing it now my average games are in the 9.0-9.3 range wich when combined with the Bar changes makes it enjoyable again. Its not as strong as it was back when it was 8.3. Its a very difficult tank to balance

I felt lucky today, as a punk in my AMX Super, to face one then survive a shot and sent a 105mm APFSDS into his driver port to dislogde the turret... Then a little squissy BMP-2 passed by and sent all of his 30mm APDS into my side, with the same result as the 279. Guess my luck for this year it's already over😶
I sold this vehicle to get the AUBL 74 HVG. This is a good vehicle but i had so much fun playing AUBL and i also researched nearly all italian tech tree

The only problem with the 279 now is that the lineup for it is not as good, the event bmp with the thermals and the t62m went up in br. So you have not as great light tanks and just a t62 and t55s in the lineup.
You're kidding, right? Russian 8.7 is probably one of the more oppressive lineups in the game, with the premium T-55 and also the AMD-1, T-62 and IT-1, BMP-2 + whatever broken CAS you want to slot in. If you also put in the 279 in, I can argue it's an actually overpowered lineup.
Using a conquerer with 530+ mm of pen and this guy just bounced, shattered or absorbed all my shots, this really just showed that war thunder is just open about their Russian bias now

Obj 279 was always able to tank bombs, since day 1, that's why it's so popular.
That is because it has a lot of spaced armor that makes up those smooth curves so it can soak up the shrapnel before it even hits the real armor.

Sometimes there's a singular pixel on the vehicle that can for some reason get penetrated.

Object 490 was built. Basically it’s GDI Mammoth tank. 1100mm armor , means 2000mm equivalent in rolled steel. 152mm gun and powerful engine.

Now try the Leopard 1 which sits at 8.0. Face tanks against Stabs, APFSDS, Composite Armor, ERA, LSF, and Thermals.

Type 16 prototype is still a pain to face though. Laser rangefinder, APDSDS, and thermals at 9.0... all of that on a very fast wheeled chassis.
the intro is the main reason why I love this. Can even survive some bullpups occasionally.
The Object 279 never makes sound in my game along with many others. Usually I get sound from only my own teammates and most enemies are silent.

My conqueror can pen the turret face of this I think, and has more turret armour at 313mm of armour on turret face and it’s at 7.7!
Took this out after the br change and just got one shot 6 battles straight. Its no longer my top choice to play

If you have APFS or HEAT you can quite easily kill it, just don't think you'll lolpen, it requires actual aiming
